So come on an intern visa, which we all think we know what that really is, then bundled off as skilled to the countryside to work on farms. Crap job, crap money which is sent back home and not put into Japanese economy, and rich Japanese company directors.

8 days, 27 total applications...

that works out to about 5000 total applications over the 4 years of the program as mentioned above.

Unless something picks up in a major way, I suspect that the 345,150 (who came up with that number? Rolling dice on the desk on afternoon?) projected applications are going to be WAY short.

Good for them.

Remember folks, quality OVER quantity.

Funny how that works, huh?

"5000 total applications over the 4 years"

Is that 5 days a week or 7 days a week???

Yeah, take away any (partially) skilled labor from these other countries leaving them in even worse shape for the future. That is why I am against the H1B visa program in the US which does the exact same thing...

Unless you live in some kind of communist utopia or religion-fed autocratic government, you have absolutely no obligation to waste your own life to contribute to the country you were born in. Your life, your family's safety, happiness and well being above anything else. As long as it is legal, no one has the right to say where other people must live in.

Wish all the best to the newcomers and hope they can build a family and live their dreams in Japan if they wish so.

The alleged purpose of the technical internship program is to train workers from overseas and then have them take their skills back to their country. If they can stay longer in Japan it will negate the supposed purpose of the internship program.

I think the internship program should be abolished as it only serves as a source of cheap, abusable labour for companies that do not deserve to have it. These new visas allow employees to switch jobs, which will act as an incentive for employers to follow the law.
