to all the very sensitive people here (who probably still wanna believe the members of the Imperial Family are descendents of Gods), i was just pointing out how interesting it is to have parade rehearsals and representatives from 190(!!) countries and organizations for the enthronement ceremony of the Emperor, which, with all due respect, doesn,t have any real powers. ( we,re in 2019 folks )
that doesn,t mean i don,t respect Japanese traditions, culture or the Imperial Family.
just sayin.

Interesting left/right side-cars on motorbikes. Mirror images. Sweet.

Another occasion that many would point to as an unnecessary expense and pointless exercise in pomp and pageantry that is no longer needed in a modern world.

Will this enthronement extravaganza never end?
meanwhile the consumption tax of 10% is hitting the consumer hard .

Is a rehearsal really needed to check if a road can be blocked for 2 hours?
Anyway it will be blocked!

This is the top story right now? A rehearsal?

Interesting, I noticed the motorcycle cops that are in side-cars. I guess if there were an incident, the driver would have to deal with the bike, while the rider could react a bit quicker, and go on foot easier.

It's a wonderful occasion - And one with only celebration as the previous monarch has managed to leave (kind of) on his own terms. For point of Reference please look back to QE2 Coronation in 1953.

They're on the wrong side of the road (arrow points other direction).

Wow that's a lot of tax money, or who pays for all of this?
Last I had heard the Royal family wanted to live normal lives like us, but I dont' have this kind of security detail. Seems to me it was all false they love the lifestyle of free money at someone's expense.

For a ceremonial parade it looks a bit boring, just a bunch of dull motor cars with equally dull motor cycle escorts. Given Japans long history and individual culture I would have thought they could come up with something better and more enjoyable than this.

Who told you this? Not anyone here, as the royal family here wouldn't say such a thing.

Rehearsal makes perfection but costs money.
Chose your side.
I don't wave to people who have not been elected.

Jeez people, the last time this happened was 30 years ago. Some of you are acting like they’re spending money to do this every couple years. Let Japan have its traditions like any other country.

Jonathanjo,
Wow!
You are super observant.
Didn7t notice that......I only noticed how bland the colors in the photo were.

so now the terrorists will know the exact route, format, pace, and deployment of security.....

2019: enthronement!
I must have missed something in the society evolution.

Such royal processions are done in great precision. Tokyo for sure is on my to do list visit places next year. Will be amazing to connect with like minded business individuals.

The benefit is that traditions are kept alive for the future. Something sorely lacking today.
Be thankful you don't do this every four years like we do in the US for every presidential election. I wouldn't be surprised if we spend even more than this is costing on each one.

Jee, I did not notice that. Talk about paying attention to details! So I assume the driver position in the imperial limousine is in the middle??

You mean the enthronement ceremony hasn't been done already? I thought that was all done in a Shinto shrine earlier this year. What if say Naruhito had died before this, would he even be officially considered an 'emperor' at all? Of course Akihito has abdicated. I don't get this, at all.

100s of liters of gasoline paid for by me and other taxpayers in Japan!
What an excellent use of taxpayers’ money....

Extanker : if it was to the benefit of all people, yes.
Benefiting a group of people, no way for me. Especially if I was a poor Japanese paid 1000 yen per hour with no realistic way to get a real job one day and with a child or two to nourish. Work til death looming.
I don't dislike those ceremonies either as they are nice for me as a wealthy citizen in this world.

Generally, this would be table-topped for timing and security.
Why would they want to close this area down to even further stress the economy of the area?
From a security stand point, isn't this a bit on the risk side?

... and at the end of the day, what real powers does he have?
i suppose at least the food ,s gonna be good ...

1 person believes they are on the right side of the road, despite arrow going opposite direction.

To all the negative comments. How about showing some respect for another country's culture and traditions.
