Talk to Koike, if she’ll listen.

The propensity for Japanese to destroy natural areas of beauty is high.If it can be concreted, paved or fenced in then it is fair game.

The only type of nature that is somewhat resistant to development by concreting are mountains.

Good luck in getting a construction project that has already started to suddenly stop. It is nearly impossible.

It doesn't matter whether its scientific or not, since when J Govt listen to public. Decision already made, nothing will change. No matter what public effort.

one day the sons and daughters of these city leaders are going to wake up and find their city has been shed of nearly every tree and the shiny concrete hell project will be complete, with signs everywhere saying don’t loiter here, don’t smoke here, don’t eat here, don’t take photos here. of course by that time there will be nothing of note to take photos of anyway…apart from wave after wave of work slaves and tourists.

Brilliant comment. Sadly that's where we are already, especially those idiotic signs.

communication with the public to gain their understanding.

Which is code for "You will get what you are given anyway, and like it."

Give me concrete and even more concrete any day, who needs trees, shrubs, wildlife and oxygen anyway, this is Japan where the riches of the developers always come first.

And in present day New York.....

It's choose your poison: the gun violence might change someday but eliminated trees will be gone forever.

@kurisupisu This message is approved by the Japan Cement Manufacturers Association and most especially Aso Cement.

I wonder how many people out there are in favor of this development -- but who aren't being recognized or acknowledged by what is, from all appearances, a very biased article.

Ahh, but here you are wrong. Trees can be and have been replanted, but lost lives never come back!

Permanent injunction!

Although the Tokyo government has never formally suspended the project, the developers have voluntarily delayed portions of it, including the felling of trees, presumably due the outcry. The main developer Mitsui Fudosan has said it is reexamining the project's effects on nearby gingko trees and is working to improve transparency and communication with the public to gain their understanding.

How about getting some Ministers for Foreign Affairs with knowledge of SGDs from other countries to assess what's going on and what SHOULD happen for the benefit of ALL?

Everything approved under LDP leadership needs to be thoroughly reexamined in light of the kickback scandal.

I just checked and Joni Mitchell wrote/sang Big Yellow Taxi in 1970:

Don't it always seem to go

That you don't know what you've got

Till it's gone

They paved paradise

And put up a parking lot

I’ve always been amazed whilst driving into remote area where I’ve come across a stretch of road that runs for a kilometer of so and leads to nowhere-just jobs for the boys and large brown envelopes…

This is the first time that i see lawyers are actually doing something good for the society without charging per min or per word on the statement.

LOL When has property development ever been scientific. EG. Group opposed says After 1:00pm the shadow of your 40 story building will lay over this park all afternoon. Property Developer, Ok, yeah we can see your point and we decided to move the park.

In a country with a declining population and a negative birth rate, building new apartments is a total waste. Many residences sit empty and abandoned; the land on which they sit could be returned to nature or used for new construction. Destroying nature in the name of greed runs counter to not only common sense but is anathema to the Japanese spirit of Shintoism.
