Land ministry criticized for all-male lecturers' lineup in online course

Is this a surprise?

These decisions are made by males educated in the most prestigious Universities of Japan. So contact with women not introduced by their parents is nill. No surprise here.

The ministry has said it had considered having female instructors on its lecturers' lineup but "could not secure" any due to "scheduling reasons."

In other word's, they never even bothered to look for any, and needed a convenient excuse!

Personally i do see why it matter. The point is to listen to the lectures and if the chosen ones are competent or not. I feel like these days twitter always has to find some reason to complain about something. They should just get a life

I get the feeling that women are fine with the status quo, otherwise things would have changed along ago with all the available tools for them, just leave us alone and we are quite happy is the feeling I get.

Scheduling reasons, my fanny. I bet it's cuz "women talk too much and therefore make lectures, meetings etc. much longer than they need to be." Sound familiar? It's so tragic that actual change and gender equality will probably never see the light of day in Japan in our lifetimes.

Who would wanna watch 25 men give 25 lectures in a row about anything?

Women are better communicators than men in general ( especially here in Japan) and the many competent ladies that have taken the stage that I’ve been lucky enough to witness had an actual message, presented well, used visuals, anecdotes, stories to convey it and were highly engaging. Guess the actual government seeks none of that.

Not about quotes or anything, but surely anyone with an ounce of sense would bring the ladies on board. Scheduling problems ay? Hmmmm.

The point is that the ministry clearly didn't deem any female lecturers competent enough. It's remarkable that they didn't have a single "scheduling problem" with any of the twenty-five men.

The ministry announced Tuesday it was accepting applications for the free-of-charge course that will last until around February, 

It would be good to know how many applications did they receive and how many of these applications were from women...

Writing stories about some Twitter-er reaction is just lazy.

Don't forget you need to have a representative of the LGBQT community too.

I guess they need to go out and hire a disabled colored (non-Asian) female Lesbian Bi-Sexual, and then they're covered for all eventualities ... right ?
