Multiple gas shipments are already being diverted to Europe by private Japanese firms, Koichi Hagiuda said, declining to give details of how many boats or how much LNG is involved.

That surplus can be useful for domestics needs with energy price that rising during this winter but foreign affair come first for Japan.

After the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake the US and EU diverted gas some of their gas supplies to Japan to meet their needs when their nuclear power plants were shut down forcing increased reliance on gas fired power plants, so there is some precedent for Japan to return the favor.

We need to help Europe and Ukraine.

What happens over there will determine what China will do next as well.

You show weakness to Russia=China, a much bigger threat will be next.

Giving a pass to Russia which has taken land from Japan and China, plus it's responsible for dividing Korea in half. Russian was there. He wanted Korea in half.

Russia needs to be stopped! Needs to be countered! If you dont do it while they are weak and poor..... Then you already Failed!

Will we charge them double?

Will we charge them double?

It's in the article

That's weird, because I could swear that Japan was / is a major IMPORTER of LNG; from Qatar.

In fact, wasn't a ship made / produced SPECIFICALLY for use of import FOR Japan from Qatar ?

Article says until last year Japan was top importer of lng

Pretty weird move.

Importing LNG from Russia and then sending it to Europe because they fear for supplies from Russia.

Putin will get a chuckle out of this.

www.statista.com/statistics/1271620/lng-import-volume-from-russia-by-country/

Japan was the leading importer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia in 2020, with an import volume of over 6.1 million metric tons. It was followed by China, which imported more than 4.9 million metric tons of LNG from Russia. In Europe, the largest volume of LNG from Russia was imported by France.

and yes LNG gas Japan is buying is from where...one two three...from Russia.

there is huge facility build in Primorie region with japanese involmenet from ehere LNG gas is exported to Japan.

let me ask two single questions

do you all believe that Russians are that dumb that will not stop to sell this LNG gas to Japan if this "japanese help plan" will happen?

how about global warming, pollution issues etc when LNG delivery ship will travel half world to some port say in Poland or so?

still no clues at all?how abt this whole circuss abt "russian threat"...are you all insane or what?

just use last pieces of common sense if you have some left and stop do and talk crazy things will damage Japan at very first!

What is the hurry?

Ukraine isn't invaded yet.

Besides why is Japan offering Europe gas at a very high price?

All Europe needs to do is to turn on the gas pipe they have just built with Russia in Germany.

And why should Japan intermingle in European affairs ?

To make Bidden look better?

Another "coalition of the willing" ?

Ridiculous

Typical move by Japan. Let's create more jobs by adding unnecessary steps like the middleman. Better yet, let's become Europe's middleman!

Will we charge them double?

No, at this rate, they (not we ) will charge domestic customers double to make up for it.

Key part of article:

Japan was the world's top LNG importer until last year, and is heavily dependent on the fuel. Reports suggest it may not have much to give, with stockpiles low even as record snow hits parts of the country, according to Bloomberg.

Japan gets over 40% of its LNG from Australia (the worlds largest exporter of LNG) and about 20% from Malaysia the second biggest supplier for Japan. Based on 2020 figures.

https://www.trade.gov/country-commercial-guides/japan-liquefied-natural-gas-lng

Russia supply's about 10% of Japans LNG imports.

I think it is very important that Japan and other US and NATO military allies show SUPPORT against Russia, if we allow Russia to push Europe around, it will only be a matter of time that CHINA tries to the same or worse to Japan and to other Asian countries, Good on Japan for helping Europe and Ukraine to get NATURAL GAS, Saudi Arabia and others should also be doing more to help Ukraine and our NATO allies ASAP!!!

Thankfully the European winter has not been too cold this year so maybe supplies won’t be too affected but thanks to Japan for this!

What will be, will be.

Fears are mounting that a conflict in Ukraine could cause an energy crisis in Europe, which depends heavily on Russian gas.

The pipeline, set to double natural gas supplies from Russia to Germany, has become a key bargaining chip for the West in its bid to stop Moscow from invading Ukraine.

Europe relies heavily on Russia for gas and oil via the pipe lines.

A lot of companies relies on China for making cheap goods.

A war with either or both would throw the world economy into chaos.

So totally ridiculous. So all this warmongering against Russia is all about stopping Nordstream 2, which is a) completely rational and b) almost finished? Just so that the corrupt oligarchs in Kiev can keep their grubby hands on the gas supply to Europe? What kind of influence is guiding this policy?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Yes I will gladly suffer in the cold and surrender what little gas we import so the Europeans can enjoy a warm winter. Anything else sire ?

Isn't it sad when some here are so strident to find any reason to criticize Mr. Biden they will openly support Russia against the interests and security of the US, NATO and the EU. In my day in the Navy during the Cold War both parties knew what the nation's interests were and supported NATO and the EU against the old USSR. Now it seems some Republicans are tripping over themselves to vocally support Russia because, well, they share a common enemy, President Biden. So much for loyalty and patriotism.
