"America as soon as the children come out of the womb, the father of record is legally required to pay for children care until 18""

Yes, but many continue the support until they finish grad school.

The money isn't the problem. Look at Brexit Britain. There the government has promised to expand free child care, but nobody has the staff to do it any more. Nurseries are closing having been buried in new safeguarding regulations, broken by inflation and denied migrant labour as staff. Things aren't quite as bad in Japan, but the issues are the same. Sometimes just throwing money at a problem isn't enough.

There are just too many fundamental issues working against the desired outcome. Nowadays you have two parents working to earn the same household income that only one parents could provide. When you add Japans infamous toxic work culture to the mix, how can you expect anyone to have children? Offering potential parents a few hundred bucks every quarter is not going to change a thing. There needs to be a system where both parents arent forced to work.

Japan has a quadrillion yen of public debt already… and suddenly this opposition party wants to spend more money.

Insane.

Look - Japan is already spending 30% more than in takes in in tax revenues each year.

If there is an area deserving of more spending, absolutely, but spending must be cut somewhere else to compensate. That is minimum common sense.

The sad reality is that to get the debt under control, it’s either going to have to be inflated away, or spending slashed virtually across the board. This opposition party idea would fall into the first category, which is not going to help the Japanese people, but rather impoverish them.

when will you dear LDP will start think about own citizens interests FIRST???...............................Yes I agree, but the same can be said of most world governments, politicians do not care about the people, they put themselves first and especially how much money they can rake in....apart from their over paid salaries. Child care shoud be a first for all of them, but that is unlikely to happen.

Japan is going to have to make some tough choices to prioritize spending. I cannot see much of a future to sending vast sums to rural areas for rebuilding when no one will be living there in 20 years.

@Yrral I think you Goggled half of the answer I can some what agree with you but, in America yes any man who has been proven to be the father of a child is "suppose" to support the child as a legal requirement in the state of law. He is expected to do this but some do not regardless of the law, and those who do not if the mother takes them to court and they have a "Child Support Record" filed then life can be hell for that father. He basically loses, he can't have a drivers license and if he works anywhere his wages will be garnished and if he get money of any kind income taxes etc, all will be taken and given to the mother. The tab continues with interest. I feel sorry for the fathers because some get so far behind and the courts are not friendly to the men that they can't get out of debt so they work under the table and get creative income. On the other hand if you have a father who pays his monthly support it will stop depending on what the court order says, some say 18 but it can go as high as 21 years old.

@Eastman How about stop making excuses and blaming others for failures, if only you can do that perhaps that would be a start!

how abt to cancel of US weaponry shopping at least for next 5 years and use these money for young families with kids instead?how abt to send ladies and gentleman back home to USA and save much more money we are wasting every day here for nothing?

how abt to stop warmongering and wasting taxpayers money forr unecessary events like EXPO etc?

when will you dear LDP will start think about own citizens interests FIRST???
