Japan Post embarrassed after passerby spots open post box in Chiba

Probably just a mistake from an overworked and underpaid postman. Lets not cast the first stone. sheesh..

So he left the just emptied postbox open for a few minutes? Big deal. Says more about the nitwit who had to take a picture and ridicule this postman. Sad people you have. If you have seen them collecting the mail, mail falls into bags inside the box and they exchange the full bag for an empty one, so nothing can be left behind.

Yeah clearly the postal guy made a mistake in judgment, got caught......... overall not too big of an issue, just needs to re-focus a little.

In over 2 decades as far as delivery is concerned the PO here is beyond top notch, I wud say to a fault, ie they go to great lengths to deliver, no wonder they don't make money, yeah I know there are other issues.....

The banking stuff is also quite good, but I don't agree where they are able to ""compete"" on un-level playing ground, level that up & they are all ok in my books!!

As it turns out I found out just today that JP has not been delivering my mail to me. When I moved in I notified them but they failed to record that I was living at the address and have been returning all my mail to sender. My employer just asked me about it when my pay slips were returned to them. God knows how much mail has gone AWOL.

Never had post lost in over 3 decades and thousands of deliveries. This would only be news if post was stolen. Anyway, everyday I see tens of delivery trucks (Yamato & Seino) with both back doors wide open for up to 15min while the driver makes his rounds in an apartment or office block. Been tempted to move the boxes of stacked Notebook PC's and LCDTV's many times just to prove a point, but I doubt much would change. Any other country and the van itself with the keys inside would be long gone.

@alex einz. Japan Post has a horrible record? Never heard that one before. Very low skilled staff? Address on the parcel matces the location...sign/stamp. Are they also meant to get your fingerprints?

If you've seen them get the mail from the box, you know the PO truck is about four steps away (blocking traffic). The PO Man probably got the mail (as it says in the article), put it in his truck and turned around to put the empty bag in and shut the mail box. In that INSTANT, some doofus took a picture with his mom's cell phone.

Also, as far as delivering mail, Alex & I have different 'problems.' My mailman often stops me on the street to hand me my mail. Even if I'm on my bicycle and have no place to put it except shove it in my pocket.

Over 30 years in Tokyo. Never had a problem with JP. They are always kind and seem to be doing a good job in my neighborhood. No matter what the weather, I always get my mail.

looks like most of the folks here are living some village, yes in tokyo they have very poor record.I would always choose to use yamato over them.

Yes, I watched the Fuji News Network's related video. Surprisingly, the post box was literally left wide open with the postman's key inserted. His decreased vigilance really left me open-mouthed. :‑(

Security in Japan is LAUGHABLE. I'm sure a deep bow with "Moshiwake gozaimasen deshita" or "i was drunk and don't remember doing that" will patch things up though.

Well, let be honest.. Japan post has horrible record, I lost deliveries many times with them, they basically use very low skilled staff and almost never verify identity of the receiver. Open post box is the least of their issues
