Interesting development, need to see how this pans out.

This is very good for prevention of spreading virus out there. They may need more ships for more passengers infected.

uhhh...do you have any better ideas? get them as far away as possible from any urban areas so the ocean is one of the better ideas the gov't has come up with. the US is putting them on army bases in the desert. is that more humane for you?

"This is a great idea! What could possibly go wrong?"

3 weeks later should this actually develop into something worse or become uncontrollable, whats plan B? Sink the ship? Contaminate the marine life?

What exactly can go wrong in 3 weeks? A ship is a closed system ideal for quarantine. Under what possible circumstances would there be a need to "sink the ship"? And how is the 2019-nCoV suppose to jump from humans to "marine life"? Sounds more like some bad zombie movie than real world concerns.

health authorities placed more than 3,700 people on two weeks quarantine

"Around 300 people could comfortably live on the ship and it has a maximum capacity for 500,

Is it just me or do other people see a major problem with the above quotes? I guess math is not one of their stronger subjects.

It is not math. It is your reading and reasoning skills.

The 3700 refers to the quarantined cruise liner. They are not planning to transfer the 3700 to the ferry, As the article stated:

If put into service, the ship will initially take up to 94 people,

Glad to know they are getting ready. This does look like a good solution. I wish they'd been this careful with the first returnees.

I think I might be the rare person to whom 10 days in a cabin with wifi and food delivery actually sounds nice. (clearly my life is too busy - i need a vacation.)

The boat is an extreme measure to quarantine but it might be a very good idea.

The link below is an interesting article from Taiwan with possible information showing the death toll in China is nearly 100 times higher than what is being reported. This is in alignment with what others in China are saying when they are able to get social media posts past the firewall.

And there is this:

I try to read all sources of news I can but I’m normally not a conspiracy theorist but this is starting to look rather bad and more like an accidental leak from a lab.

i am now starting to understand the possible reason Xi has distanced himself from this and is keeping a low profile;

One other interesting piece to this puzzle is China has actually admitted shortcomings to their response to the Coronavirus. Something they never do. This coupled with Xi's distancing himself fuels my personal speculation that this is much, much worse than we have been led to believe.

I certainly hope my speculation (and it is only speculation) is wrong.

I would certainly not complain about any abundance of caution regarding the quarantines at this point in time.

Interestimg follow up from what some us who are a little calmer and more realistic about this.

Much better to put the detainees in an abandoned school (there are many) in the middle of the countryside.

At least, there is fresh air and space to walk around.

Having experienced cabin life a few times, it is not really the ‘humane’ option.

..referring to comments made yesterday,

@theResident - The article you published is a good article and it uses the same premise I have used also to conclude (in some of my earlier posts) that the fatality rate is probably 1% (or less).

On the other hand I am completely losing confidence in the data being put out by China and I am starting to move more and more to thinking this is much worse (at least inside China at this point) than what we are being told.

If you find this to be "less realistic" then I consider myself guilty of moving in the less realistic direction due to a lack of confidence in the information being used to calculate the mortality rate.

Send them all back? Probably the best

My personal suspicion is that it is fake news. Is it possible the number of infected is under-reported? Plausible. The number of dead being under-reported? Possible. The death rate being greatly under-reported? Less plausible. Now that we've got out-of-country cases the world will very soon find out if the lethality jumps up by a factor of 5 over what is reported.

Couldn’t have said it better myself, kwatt! And it’s also nice to see that they are not provide them with the tablet and Wi-Fi. I mean, do you imagine how boring it would be otherwise if you were detained for 10 days, without even access to wi-fi, or anything of substance to pass the time?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Should have done that with the people you planed back.... too little too late.

I can see politicians use this idea in the future as prisons. Don’t like the looks of it. The legal system is already looking dark. I hope no one gets wrong ideas.

This thing looks a lot less comfortable than the cruise ship they are on now. No windows?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Hmm.. perhaps my recollection of the "The Cassandra Crossing" film, IS actually what's being planned as a last case contingency plan... sail out to the middle of the ocean and pull the plug .. so to speak ?

People and researchers still don't know much about this "disease". So where there's room for error, there will be errors. Many can go wrong.
