Hopefully Japan wakes up soon.

Meanwhile in Japan the mask industry is still booming with no end in sight...

Unfortunately many not wearing masks nowadays as many (most?) posters have been posting

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Left Japan a week ago and now in the US. What a relief. It’s nearly normal here only elderly and other vulnerable masking.

Hahaha sorry that's really funny considering the situation.

You do know what's considered under vulnerable or high risk right?

If most of them are masking there you should be seeing a sea of masks

Australia absolutely publishes daily Covid case numbers…. It is still the lead news story …. (I only checked 4 news networks) https://www.health.gov.au/health-alerts/covid-19/case-numbers-and-statistics#new-and-cumulative-cases

Get your plane ticket Sanji .!. If you REALLY have a “partner” here , the border is wide open for you !

“without a care in the world.”

“Do you expect everyone to be grim and having a dark view on reality”

Says it all ….. and while I don’t expect anyone to have any particular view , how any normal person can make jokes about sickness, death , and dying is just …. Wow …. We all know some people truly don’t care about anyone but themselves.!. Said so himself .!. Repeatedly stating that deaths of the elderly, obese , previously ill, are acceptable…. Karma …. And someone with your alternative lifestyle should move on to a story that should be of major concern for people like you …. Monkey pox…. People won’t question your utter lack of knowledge on that issue …. You’re surely the leading expert.!.

In Australia you wouldn’t even know Covid had ever existed. The govt and media dropped it so fast once they realised it was no longer a vote winner. Japan must be one of the last countries besides China to keep up the farce

stickman

Hope you’re having a good time there.

Dunno what this negativity attitude is meant to achieve. People scared, people banging on about Long Covid, I’m too busy for this Covid Lark to be honest, I’ve got a life to live

If people want to go on about bad science, whinge and be scared, do it, but I’m living my life to the full without a care in the world.

I’m sure the mods will remove this asap but I’m a long time Tokyo resident traveling in Canada and the States now. Covid is pretty much over here at least in the minds of most people and life has returned to normal. I know that’s not what the mods want to hear but it’s true. Anyway, keep spreading fear if it makes you happy.

the Japanese will record every case of the sniffles and continue living in fear for years to come. You can count on that.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Brian, no it’s not in the way you describe and the CDC is full of BS

Long Covid includes symptoms that may linger for a week or two and that’s most of the cases, very very few go on much longer to cause serious issues.

Some are unlucky like yourself and I’m sorry you’re going through that, we shouldn’t all live in fear because of what if or society collapses.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Stay safe everyone living and dying is not all that matters long Covid statistically is happening to 1 in 5 people according to the CDC. It’s not pleasant and some are suffering up to 2 years out.

My Japanese wife says fudged figures to support the banning of foreigners and the renewed age of isolation.

It doesn't sound like your wife is the sharpest pencil in the box.

Although it also sounds like the kind of thing a foreigner would say, but prefer it were attributed to a Japanese person, so 'my wife says...'

Japan sick as a dog, needs open door for covid resistant foreign workers..

@didou

The covid panel has just the other day urged the govt to reclassify covid to be handled more like influenza, not because its as mild as influenza but because the standing system is putting unnecessary strain on the healthcare sector. The centralised registering of cases, the testing of all close contacts, hospital-only treatment/examination etc are inefficient and a burden. The overwhelming majority who experience flu like symptoms should be able to pop in for a consultation at their local clinic and be on their way 5 mins later with some decongestants/painkillers.

The vaccines we have currently are unfortunately now largely ineffective at preventing infection of current strains (though still pretty good at preventing severe symptoms so highly recommended to at-risk individuals) so they're shifting focus to streamlined handling of new cases, treatment of the seriously ill and maybe even considering some exposure reduction like social distancing requirements though I suspect by the time they've collected their thoughts and come to a decision this wave will already be way on the decline.

JT reports 157 deaths, while NHK 161 for today. It has been increasing recently with all that infections. We know the victims are elderlies, but I'd like to government to report statistics about age. This has to be considered to officially reclassify covid like influenza.

238000 runny noses and the usual suspects on here spreading fear!

The sooner the reclassify this the better!

@Yubaru:

This article is called "Tokyo reports 35,339 coronavirus cases".

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Obviously the Friday figures will be telling but would you not agree that the above data look promising?

Personally I dont give a whit about Tokyo.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Japan needs a complete lock down to eliminate this infection problem.

"In total, 2276 cases of excess mortality were identified. Excess mortality during the four months was more than twice that of COVID-19 deaths confirmed by PCR testing. Countermeasures against COVID-19 should be chosen carefully in light of suicide effects."*

And that was just with a state of emergency. Lockdowns and their effects have also been linked to long covid symptoms and the true toll they've taken on other countries won't be known for many more years - dependency issues with medication, alcoholism, broken families, homelessness, etc.

I don't actually think you're "arguing in good faith" by the way but it should be pointed out for all why this kind of thinking is completely bananas.

@Yubaru

What goes up must come down eventually and we hit the peak when cases stop rising.

Monday 25th (22,382) to Monday 1st (21,958).

Tuesday 26th (31,593) to Tuesday 2nd (30,842).

Wednesday 27th (34,036) to Wednesday 3rd (38,940).

Thursday 28th (35,406) to Thursday 4th (35,339).

Obviously the Friday figures will be telling but would you not agree that the above data look promising?

Steven

You always say how much you care etc but wish bad terrible things to happen to those who disagree with you.

How do people acting jovial prevent suffering or deaths? Do you expect everyone to be grim and having a dark view on reality just because you do?

nice to see a substantial week on week decrease.

Hmmm...

The week of July 10th to 16th; 21,286

The week of July 17th to 23rd; 28,571

The week of July 24th to 29th; 34,082

The week of July 30th to today 19,439 and two days to go....

Me thinks someone has a problem with understanding the differences between increase and decrease.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Nice to see all the jokesters here trying to be funny all the while people are dying FROM Covid…. Karma works in mysterious ways.!.

-4 ( +10 / -14 )

They'll be 50,000 cases a day in December and after they downgrade it, it won't even make the news.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

So last week's Wednesday figure was apparently reported incorrectly resulting in 5,000 cases being shifted to the next day. Meaning that the 29,036 figure from Wednesday 27th should have been 34,036 cases with the last number from Thursday 28th being 35,406.

Overall looks like we're only slightly down today but it does look like we reached the peak in cases earlier this week.
