No Steven,
Actual hospitalizations are under 14,000 and continue to decline.

Right now it appears that Covid is the least of the problems in anxiety riddled Japan.

Steven, it’s not direct from the govt when you read it on the Mainichi website.
This is direct from the govt:

Its dragging on too long now.
Ditch the masks big time.
I did last Sunday on the subway.
So much space around me.
I walk at night a lot in the suburbs.
So many people still wearing the mask and there is no one around.

"No reaction, as always. If the PM is shot, a NK missile comes flying or corona cases massively rise again, everything is fine. What’s the branding of their perfect tranquilizers?" -Sven
I just pictured this guy, sitting on a packed train clad in his bullet proof vest, radiation suit, and a Pfizer branded IV drip with his boy Steve sitting next to him singing "we're the responsible majority! we're the responsible majority!"
These guys aren't serious...are they!?

His official source is the Mainichi website. But they use a bad translation for “hospitalizations” as Pickle put so well recently:
Sep. 28 05:05 pm JSTPosted in: Japan reports 49,979 new coronavirus cases
This has been explained by a dozen other posters but he refuses to accept it.

But let’s be clear I do hope this Covid thing will eventually be a thing of the past but I think it’s too early for Japan.

14 serious cases (with/of covid) in a population of 15 million. Comical that masks are STILL worn. Why?!?
Either they do not work (given the high cases numbers we have seen that would suggest they don't)
Or they do work but given that many wear the ones that definitely don't work (e.g Uniqlo cloth masks), and are not worn in cost and unventilated izakayas, restaurants, bars, onsens, etc - they are meaningless. This has been the case throughout the entire pandemic. The only reason for wearing them is to save/hide face. Wearing them outside is obv the height of stupidity. Why care about masks? Think about it. Nigh on 3 years now. For kids 7 and under that means their entire formal education has been masked - unable to see the faces of their friends or teacher. Why? Obviously it is not in their interest. Obviously it harms communication. Obviously it harms learning. We know they are not at risk (and a mask will not stop them getting the virus in any case).
They have to go.

they never were necessary outside
I used to wear them on the train to be polite but I can’t even be bothered anymore.
i’ve been 100% maskless for a couple of months now. I expected stares and murmurs but there was zero reactions.
I didn’t even get a single double take. In a weird way I was disappointed…
i’m seeing more and more doing the same
Japantime
Just wash your hands and you will be okay. I’ve never had it. Been to plenty of places as well. Love the guy who states he never wears it, only at work and ………….

While this might be true in Japan at the moment is this true in other countries? In general?
Aren't you just generalizing with no basis?

A 262% increase from yesterday… and that’s with drastically reduced testing. Nothing good about this massive increase in new case numbers. Actual hospitalizations are stuck at 490,000 and will probably increase for the 1st time in 3 weeks ! Luckily, for the responsible and eligible majority, the new boosters are coming right up ! In the meantime, mask up people! Follow the 3 C’s! Avoid the highly irresponsible and reckless minority! Get your mRNA jabs asap ! Keep safe people!
