"We can find a new appeal in trees if we can create a tasty alcoholic drink from them,"

I'll wait and see! "Tasty" is not the first word that comes to mind when I think about drinking from a tree! lol!

Japan has one of the highest ratios of forest areas among developed countries, with two-thirds of its land covered by forests, according to the Forestry Agency.

And hopefully it will stay that way, those trees do a lot in helping the enviroment and they should be left as they are whenever possible!

Down in Ogasawara, they tried to establish a business making and selling a local liquor to tourists that was distilled from Passionfruit; it was very rough and tasted just like wood. The bottles looked good, but it's only use is as wood cleaner!

Why?

I applaud the effort.

I say this as I eye a very appealing jug of ume-shu that we have been letting age since June of last year. Made using gin!

My point is that, throughout history, humans have looked for and found new ways to produce alcoholic beverages that are tasty and please the soul!

Who knows whether this will result in success, but I think it should be encouraged...

I think a good cypress or maple liqour would be tasty. Sakura and Camphor might be good as a smoky whisky.

most ground coffee contains dirt and wood, and i still drink it even though it has been proven and reported, so Im all up for buying a bottle of each and tasting them.

So when you walk up to the Bar Tender, would you say... "Give me a Woody" ?

Any efforts to make advancements in the production of alcoholic beverages are worthwhile. Grain, wood, lawn clippings, leaves, soil, etc.
