but not military troops or equipment “at this point.”

The "point" being when Abe can get the law changed to what he wants, and then see what happens.

at this point

Or any point, thank you.

Short of genocide, when has an army ever defeated an idea?

Abe again showing signs that he doesn't care about Japan or its economy, but places priority on getting rid of current constitution and replaced by his and the shadow bosses idea of a constitution that involves an imperialistic Japan. As a Japanese this incident was taken way out of context by Abe and it is up to the people to have him kicked out for getting the country and its people involved in something that has nothing to do with Japan. Now if this was an incursion by China against the nation well that is what "our tax money" pays the US military to do their job.

I'm delighted to learn we have $200 million yen to spare. I'm assuming all the pension problems have been fixed, Fukushima Dai-Ichi is now in tip-top shape, and everyone whose home was destroyed on 3/11 has been fully recompensed.

Wait, they haven't? Then, Dear Leader, keep your beak out of the hornets' nest on the other side of the world. No good will come of meddling there.

What if the U.S. gov't refused to provide any military aid to those fighting the extremist wackos in the hornets' nests of the world at this point? Not sure the Jordanian govt can take them out on their own...

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Cutting all the crap,, JP CAN support Jordans offensive against IS, even if its only money.

Japan told the world’s nations Thursday it will never give in to terrorism and will continue providing non-military assistance for the fight against the Islamic State and other extremist groups .”

Abe just wants to play a tough guy. He doesn't much care for the people he is supposed to protect. This is what he meant when he said "Bring back Japan" in his campaign two years and some months ago.

Speak loudly but carry an itty bitty stick.

Think, plan, build, and then act strategically. Is the Abe administration able to do so?

Abe is a great man. He does what he can.

Chicken Hawks acting tough, that's all it is. Great man eh? What exactly has he done to become great in your eyes Kiyoshi?

RE: Abe is a great man. He does what he can."

Perhaps but you have to ask yourself, what has he done for our economy, rising taxes, urbanization dwindling, unemployed, unfair labor practices, should I keep going? Fukishima/Sendai, other areas still waiting for support, the list continues and yet this "great man" keeps pushing for Constitution changes and an imperial Japan. Not on my tax money he won't.

Abe is a second try.

@bjohnson...."our" economy? Are you Japanese?

Japan better stay away from there. Sending troops to fight overseas is a clear war against the article 9 of the constitution. There is nothing Abe and all lawmakers can do about it. He knows it well.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@kiyoshiMukai, Your opinion is your opinion. Keeping that though in mind, I will not go as far to say that P.M. Abe is a great man as I do not know the man, just alittle of the politican. Also I do not believe he is a demon or inept as a few portray him to be. For those they feel the need to thrash the man, if possible could you tell me what you could or would had done differently? For those Hawks in the room, how many of you are willing to personally go to war?I really would like to know or am I just hearing from those like the individuasl complaining about a certain athlete of a certain sport that they, themselves can not even play the sport?

Determination shown by Mr Abe to fight the menace of terrorism in the world is commendable .But it must be a joint effort by world powers against terror to be successful. Japan should strive for the constitution of a strong world force under the aegis of United Nations which should have full mandate to gain entry anywhere to combat and finally eliminate those who are engaged in such activities.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

It is probably wise to not send active military. it is a very tough situation and will take major intervention to stop the terrorists.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The rest of the world is much happier with Article 9 in place, thank you very much. No need to let the genie out of the bottle!

From RL

In its adamantine determination never to yield an inch to terrorism, Japan's government has ordered the national table tennis team to pull out of a tournament in - Qatar. https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/…/japan-team-withdraw-middle-ea…

Short of genocide, when has an army ever defeated an idea?

Yeah, the idea of a Third Reich is still swirling around these parts

Abe is a great man. He does what he can. Yes- Its the people who need to make the choice & do what they can to support Japan & its future. Stop depending on the US!

Japan's so-called, "check book policy" cant go on forever. As I (& others) who've said previously- your money cannot save you. Change article 9.
