It's a drone. Shoot it down.

Excellent move !

Drone vs drone is much betta than plane vs plane!

It's a drone. Shoot it down.

Have to agree. Entirely different to a manned plane.

Hiro S Nobumasa, drone wars? ;8)

Hmmm did it actually come into Japan's airspace? Disputed waters.... so waters Japan or China don't own? How close are these waters to Japan compared to China?

Can anyone answer that?

0 ( +3 / -3 )

One Chinese drone in disputed waters. cost=about $20000 total operating cost. 4 Japanese planes in disputed waters.. cost=about $50000 per plane PER HOUR operating cost. At $100000 PER HOUR, and there is no details of flight times, I wonder who was the smartest?

If there is a standard procedure, a defined pattern of response, it will be exploited, nothing better than finding out how will be the reaction, "by the book" - To expect the unexpected. Over-reaction, spending too much money is a good policy ? Better to think on clever, smarter options, the Ninja country knows that very well. The surprise element.

Japan has the right to defend itself if it is attacked, well a piece of war equipment aka weapons system is an act of war, shoot the thing down, sink the ships and give them something to really talk about because that is what China would do if in similar situation.

Abe missed big opportunity when he replaced Noda who provoked conflict with China by nationalization of disputed Islands.

There should be no problem if Japan kept promise to put aside the dispute and focus on major issues between Japan and China.

Now we have to question the wisdom of the stupidities displayed by both Noda and Abe.

What has Japan gained from this?

What if nothing would have happened?

Abe made a big deal to get US involved in the dispute. He is actually more stupid than Noda. Abe effectively terminated promise that Japan made to China in the three documents when the diplomatic relationship was restored: to resolve differences in peaceful way.

Abe wanted to play a big role in Asia Pivot and determined to make troubles for China in both South China Sea and East China Sea. Does Abe know that Japan returned Islands she occupied during WW2 back to China at the end of war? Where is the dispute that Abe talked about anywhere he went?

I don't care if Abe really want to sacrifice himself for his course to be a leader of pacific ocean, but just don't drag Japanese people and American people with him.

China's used the EXCUSE that Japan "Nationalized" the Senkaku Islands to justify their open efforts to steal them. There are 5 islands that form the Senkakus. One has ALWAYS been owned by the Japanese Government, and in fact it was used as a live fire bombing range for the US military. In 2012 the Japanese government purchased 3 of the islands from THEIR JAPANESE OWNERS. In other words, 3 islands that were privately owned by Japanese nationals became Japanese Government property. The Senkaku claim was originally one created by Taiwan over fishing rights. China usurped this claim in 1971 to reinforce their territorial expansion policy and the military goal of breaking the first island chain, amd declared their overlapping ADIZ to cover the Senkakus. China started a propaganda war with their usual "Chinese since ancient times" argument despite the fact that Chinese maps throughout the 1950s and 60s clearly showed the islands marked as being Japanese, and that the ONLY record and remnants of any human habitation are Japanese. While supporters of the CCP dictatorship constantly parrot the "Japan nationalized the islands" mantra as if Japan invaded Chinese islands, a moment of brief historical research and rational thought clearly shows it to be nothing more than an excuse. One which has become even more clear with their ridiculous 9-dash line and actions in the South China Sea.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

The Senkakus Islands, as Japanese call them, were not dropped from the sky in 1970s, nor in 1960s, nor in 1950s.

The Chinese people discovered them long before 1900s. In fact, not only Chinese people discovered them, they used them. Not only they used them, they also used Okinawa long time ago. In fact, Ryukyu Islands were once a kingdom, and tributary state of China.

Japan had very criminal past, very brutal and savage. Japan worshipped violence and used forces to conquer Ryukyu in 1880s, not very long time ago. That was the reason that after WW2, Japan was limited to its own four Islands by international law, and as a condition for its surrender.

By law, Japan has no right to claim anything other than its territory defined by Potsdam Declaration.

Now Japan not only illegally occupied territories that don't belong to her from Okinawa to Shenkakus, but also lied to the world shamelessly that China's 9-dashed line claim disputable. If China's claim disputable, then the whole Japan is disputable as well, including the claim of its own four main Islands. China's claim was based on laws, publicly and peacefully, without dispute for half century, why all of sudden, Japan is so provocatively involved in the so called dispute more than thousand miles away ?

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

I have personally seen an antique map that clearly labels the islands as Chinese. So it is an argument about fact or politics. Good luck on that one.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

The Senkakus became Japanese territory by Incorporation in accordance with international law after research proved them to be Terra Nullius. Every country in the world accepted this without objection. No war was ever fought there between Japan and any other country. China has tried to argue that it was "taken" from China, and in accordance with the Potsdam Declaration of WWII it should have been returned to China. The faults with this argument is that the Declaration specically refers to territories taken by force, which is why Taiwan, the Pescadores were returned to the Republic of China, but not the Senkakus. China has tried to argue that the Senkakus were taken as spoils of war in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894/85. This argument also fails because the terms of China's (Qing Dynasty) surrender at the Treaty of Shimoneski inckude China handing over Taiwan and the Pescadores, but no mention atall of the Senkakus. In other words, neither Japan nor China considered them to be Chinese territory.Furthernore if Japan thought for a moment that they were Chinese, there would be no reason to carry out the surveys and follow the international protoci for incorporation. All they had to do was add it to the list of territories to be handed over to Japan as the spoils of war. CCP supporters, failing to have any legitimate argument regarding the Senkakus invariably resort to the general anti-Japan WWII speech covering various issues not related to the Senkakus. In reaity China has already lost their attempt to steal the Senkakus, as they would need to be prepared for a military conflict with the United States, which they are not. If they were, they would have taken Taiwan a long time ago.

Do a little more research before you start making comments like this please. You give people a totally wrong view of reality versus your alternative facts.

The Ryukyus were playing both sides, and Japan, more specifically, Satsuma, specifically the Shimazu clan, who invaded the Ryukyu's in...wait for it here....1609.

Get off the high horse, no comparisons to "other" countries and their dirty deeds of colonization, during the same period of time and afterwards as well.

Okinawa is nothing special, in that regards.

The Senkaku's were stopping points in trade between Ryukyu and Fukushu centuries ago, and some folks believe it was the people of the Ryukyu's who first discovered them, westerners wouldn't acknowledge that history and many still dont.

So in conclusion, those islands are Ryukyu's, by extension now Japanese, it is that simple.

Who gave Japan the right to conquer Ryukyu ?

It was wrong then and it is wrong now.

Has Japan really shown her remorse of her past ?

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Who gave Japan the right to conquer Ryukyu ?

Where should have Japan asked for permission? Then who gave China the right to conquer territories around it, like Mongolia and Tibet? And I do not remember China showing any remorse for its past, even for such relatively recent events like aggressions against India in 1962 and Vietnam in 1979.

Sure you have...I suppose you also saw a Chinese passport that shows the entire South China Sea belongs to China.

The reality is that the Senkakus/Diayu/Tiauyutai isles are disputed territories.

Even Tomadachi Sam dare not say it belongs to Japan but only says Tokyo at present 'administers' those rocks.

When Japan claimed those islets China was still the voiceless 'sick man of Asia' and Tokyo was an Asian superpower.

So how can a sane person expect them to complain when they were so weak and devastated as a nation by brutal Fukushima like colonization and enslavement?

The truth is those rocks really belongs to the nascent democratic Taiwan Republic.

There are still ancient Ilan fishermen's grave scattered all over the isles that survived the Japanese destruction and desecration of the site where a lighthouse was built.

The intercontinental shelf of Tatung mountain range of Taiwan is connected with those islets , thus the flora and fauna and geology are surprisingly similar and the distance the shortest.

However it is foolishness if the three countries involved still stubbornly insist on sole ownership of those goat islands.

It would be wise if they heed the advise of the Japanese monk whose family was saved and sheltered after the war in China when he was still a child.

The Monk wished the three parties should make the centermost island a peace memorial with the rest divided amongst them.

If not then they should just give those islands back to the Ryukyu Republic instead of goin to war!

The US considers the Senkakus to be under Japan's administration. The only reason was to appease Taiwan who was the only country to make a claim on it. However because the US has repeatedly made it clear that defense of the Senkakus falls under Article 5 of the US-Japan Mutual Security Treaty, this is a moot point. Invading the Senkakus will be treated as invading any part of Japan.

China is a militant totalitarian dictatorship bent on military and territorial expansion with an aspiration to become the Asian hegemon. The world doesn't buy their self serving nonsense.

"China’s president warned the Philippines that it would go to war if Manila insisted on enforcing an international arbitration decision rejecting China’s claims over disputed areas of the South China Sea, the Philippine president said in a televised speech on Friday."

When are people going to wake up? It's 2017.....

The reality is that the Senkakus/Diayu/Tiauyutai isles are disputed territories.

You forgot this name too Pinnacle Islands. And by the way, China never gave a crap about those islands until they found out about the potential for oil under them.

China thinks they own the world, Hell they used to have a "map" showing it right?

When the top dog , honest broker superpower Cavaliers says Japan is only administrator of them goat islands then that's final and indisputable!

No current Celtics or Pelicans nor 76'rs are permitted to reinterpret the words of the King!

Using Taiwan as a reason only adds weight to the fact that indeed Tokyo is only administrator pro-tempore!

Only warmongers likes to picture China as a threat because they are blind to the fact that the Beijing Ducks winning an NBA title is like sayin Ichabod is Shaq himself!

President Obama knew that Pres Duterte likes to use. 'colorful language ' thus those people who knows the guy have learned not to interpret his words too literally.

When the King says Abe is administrator of them islands then one better take that literally with finality cuz that's it!

To invoke a war or military treaties in dispute will be terrible for Japan, a disaster.

It'd be terrible for everyone. China too. So why is China trying to start a war. That's what sending drones into the area is. China is the aggressor here. Not Japan.

Japan has a constitution that prohibits the use of war as a means of settling disputes, Can China say the same?

The US should "prepare for a military clash", a state run Chinese tabloid newspaper has warned."

Starting a war with Japan means starting a war with the United States, something even the most hawkish PLA generals are unwilling to undertake. Why? Because there's be nothing left of the CCP, which would be sa blessing for the Chinese people.

If Japan has the constitution, then what Abe does is against the constitution. Yet he was elected many times. What an international joke.

I said you don't know North East Asia, I didn't wrong you. Just check what ancient Chinese teaching 2000 years ago, for example, Confucian Analects, or the art of war.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Does Chinese Government try to provoke Japanese Government for to start war? What's a point of such as dangerous action against its neighbor if Chinese Government wants improve relationship with Japan? What Chinese military will do if Japanese fighter has shot down Chinese drone? I can tell one thing Chinese fighter will shoot down Taiwanese or Japanese drone if the drone was flying close to Chinese air space. Chinese Government needs to rethink about it action. No one will benefit from such as provocation.

What joke? Every democratic country in the world has welcomed Japan taking a larger role in maintaining the peace and security of the region. That welcome by the way is because of China's behavior in the East and South China Seas,

"I said you don't know North East Asia, I didn't wrong you. Just check what ancient Chinese teaching 2000 years ago, for example, Confucian Analects, or the art of war."

You don't know anything about even Chinese history in the last couple hundred years. Sun Tzu's Art of War reflects the all fronts war that China is conducting today, mixing trade, economics with strategic interests, flooding the media with propaganda, employing the 50 cent army to flood internet forums.
