China is constantly checking the readiness of all the free nations in Asia. They are the snake in a garden of Eden. Japan needs to be vigilant and stand strong. Check mate this bully, this provocateur...

Excellent news. Good for the MSDF, and good for PM Suga. Let the Commies know that Japan WILL stand up for freedom of the seas and rule of law, even as neighbors like Philippines and Vietnam seem too scared and lacking in any fight.

Id love Japan and Taiwan to conduct joint exercises in the area and confront Commie ships.

“Commie ships“ means ships manned by communists.

China purged its history with fire and bullets when turning communist.

Now China says thousands of years ago Chinese fishermen were claiming islands and seas for future China and that somehow translates to having continuing ownership, now that they want the islands and seas.

Of course nobody mentions that the sonar, radar and munitions murder thousands and thousands of dolphins, whales and other marine life.

Certain very low frequency active sonars can harm marine mammals at close range. Those sonars are not used by combat ships generally but by specially equipped SURTASS ships. Radar has no effect on marine life at all. It is strictly and above the surface sensor. The article makes no mention of life munitions being used and normally in an ASW exercise they are not used as the goal is to be as quiet as possible while tracking a submarine. Likewise the sub tries to be as quiet as possible to avoid detection. In general active sonars are seldom used as they immediately give your presence and position away to your enemy.

There is something called the status quo.

Is anyone in the region testing the boundaries or trying to change the status quo? Perhaps China wants to either roll things back to some imagined Golden Age, or to create a new presence at the expense of others? Or both?

If so, is it wrong to want to stop, or oppose that expansion or hegemony?

Other than Chinese hegemony, I cannot see anyone else in the Indo-Pacific area who is trying to expand their own influence.

On Friday, a Chinese military spokesperson said the U.S. destroyer John McCain had entered waters around the disputed Paracel Islands in the South China Sea without China's permission,

Poor China does not realize that America does not need it's permission to sail in those "international waters".

China should be careful or it will get itself into trouble.

Good for Japan. And all nations who believe in free navigation through International Waters. The South and East China Seas are not Chinese waters, and the nine dash line is total nonsense as ruled by an International tribunal, the Permanent Court of Arbitration.

Before you fight a bully you better go to weight room first. In other words, Japan needs to build her naval strength. We need full deck aircraft carriers, supply ships, frigates and so on. But most important, we need to get rid of the repugnant article 9. Then China and North Korea can experience the full might of the Japanese nation.

LOL, I am sure the marine life is the last thing Vietnam is worried about.

Very important drills in view of the significant part that submarines will lay in any future conflicts. But for these drills one needs a submarine(s). Did any other country, presumably including Japan, also seeking exercises and drills provide that?

JMSDF has the best non-nuclear subs in the world and quite a few of them. Of course if you are at sea on a JMSDF ship or in the air in one of their maritime patrol aircraft and just happen to encounter a Russian or Chinese sub (or American too, gasp !) you are going to try to track and see if the sub realizes it is being tracked and takes action to break your track. JMSDF in my experience is about the best ASW navy in the world.

Try reading the article's first paragraph, at the very least.

you can smoke truth?

This only proves that Japan has a military and not an SDF as so often claimed. Its a bad move as it only legitimizes any claims the Chinese might make about Japan not following its own constitution and being "rogue", and as untrustworthy as it was prior to WWII.

In peace time...well anyone can doing whatever in the international waters to show off your might!
