Sounds like a normal, typical summer day in Australia.
It is a normal summer day in Australia. High thirty's is nothing unusual and most years now include days over 40C. Perhaps if you live in southern Tasmania it is cooler.
smithinjapan
Ummm... is the headline supposed to read "40" and not "30°C"? I don't think I've been here for a summer it has NOT been over 30. That's normal, except maybe in Hokkaido.
And people, those stupid hand fans you are using in front of your face during Covid... STOP. They are the stupidest idea in quite some time. Once the temperature hits about 36°C you are basically doing the same thing as turning a blow dryer on your face and are only exacerbating the chance of heat stroke.

I think what the posters above are saying is 30/32 C isn’t hotter than usual or that remarkable. It’s regularly that hot here in Michigan (like almost Canada).
Alan Omerovic
Every year news just states how hot it gets here but never shows a solution to the problem. Just plant more trees in the city, stop chopping them down during summer and let there be shade!!!!!! But nope, Japan likes chopping them down coz they can't be bothered to care for them, so negative. I wish this country would think harder in sustainablitiy rather than waste so many things.
gokai_wo_maneku
It's called "summer". It happens every year.

Mmhhh, no..
Concrete jungles are funny..
Lol!!..

In contrast, we've had a somewhat cooler summer than normal here in Hawaii.

30 plus is pretty typical for this time of year. Climate change is very much real though.

Take a trip to Dubai and call me
Chottobaka
January in Thailand and August in the mountains of Panama makes Japan's weather bearable.
Strangerland
Are you implying that posters/people in Japan should not feel hot, because it's hotter in Florida?
WA4TKG
You think that’s Sweltering?
I invite you to come to Florida, we’ve been hitting near 40*C daily for weeks.
Oh, and don’t ever go to Dubai if you think that’s Sweltering, they hit 50*, regularly.
Strangerland
It's nothing like a normal typical day in Australia.

Sounds like a normal, typical summer day in Australia. Nothing out of the ordinary. I guess Japan must be used to cooler summers. Things will get hotter in the coming years. Such is the cumulative effects of climate change. Without taking the required corrective actions to restrict the temperature increases, and doing it more quickly than planned, it will be a constant struggle in the future. The world being left for today's children will be a hotter and less hospitable world than should have been left for them. The fault is ours.

I’ll be in the local open air pool tomorrow for a swim…
Yrral
Whole state of Texas,is hotter than hell,4 week, the heat should miderate
kaimycahl
@Yubaru The very reason why we have a swimming pool to jump in and cool off, which means I don't have to go to a crowded beach or a local swimming pool and I don't have to worry about selling electricity!! WYP?
Very reason we have solar panels on our roof and a "chiku-den-ki" (Literally translated as an electric battery) of 10KW, so I dont have to "worry" about saving electricity! I sell it!

Tears evaporating off my face at 45°C.
Hervé L'Eisa
Yes, it's a typical summer day. And?
tamanegi
Beautiful but hot day in Osaka however children shouldn't have to play soccer or do sprint training in the park in the middle of the day.
didou
Sarcastic ?
Spend the whole day under the sun, and come back to us for an additionnal comment

It's August 2nd and I yet have to experience a truly uncomfortable summer day, no idea what these people are talking about, its cool outside

Cannot survive without my Sony personal air conditioner.

I cycled to central Nagoya today in this heat. About 90% of people were wearing masks outside. It's the first time I've ever sought out shelter in the shadows of buildings and trees during summer. The heat and sun were relentless. Can't wait for autumn so I can get back out on my motorbike!
diagonalslip
swarfega????? everyone knows WD-40 is what you need when it's hot Derek... some people, really!
rcch
Kinda hard to swallow that positivity when you have to go to work everyday (you’re not talking to students, right?). Yes, Obon is coming; that will be nice… for 4 days(!) ;then it’s “ganbaroo” time all over again. yaay ( -_- ), anyway, hot, yes, remember: drink your liquids, stay safe(!)
dan
It's 38 degrees or so in Nagoya..over 30 ..
Drink water...wow what great advice lol

"Sweltering?" at 30C? Hell everyday, well just about, down here is pushing 34C.

I ignored government advice and went out today.
No nanny diktats for me!!!
kyushubill
Water? Forget that, summer time is beer time. BTW it is beer o'clock, cheers.
Derek Grebe
The government issued an alert covering wide areas from eastern to western Japan, requesting people to drink water
Blimey, now they tell me. All this time I've been drinking sand and swarfega.
