No you do not have to pay the 35% that was discounted!

My trip to the beach is still on at the same price, confirmed today.

Do you read Japanese?

Once you go to the hotel or other attraction they will ask you to pay the remaining discounted price!!

This is kinda silly. Even if the guest cancels, the government will pay 50% to the hotel.

So... when the guest asks, what will the new price be now the campaign is cancelled. The hotel will reply, cancel now, re-book with this 50% discount code. No?

How funny all the people on here asking for a refund are. It didn’t take a genius to know what was happening with the virus.

Capitalism societies' fragility is revealed in crisis. I would rather live in a country if they guarantee minimum income to survive even if there is no freedom of speech and no freedom of political activities than a country where several per cent of population monopolize wealth.

I'm sure Kim Jong Un would welcome you with open arms.

You tell everyone how much money you’ve got Lucifer? lol!

Nope, telling everyone how easy and illusion it is owing yourself.

Owning a car in Japan costs you 0.3 M a year at least. That keeps people away from buying a car.

How did you arrive at the 0.3M annually ?, I don't spend that even in a shaken year.

A Car lover is a car lover and will forgo other things and save or take out a loan to buy one just like taxes

on beer won't stop the beer lovers to quit drinking

Go To campaign just a big scheme to transfer loads of taxpayer money to the Nikai faction families. I guess this was necessary to ensure that the Nikai faction receive their promised amounts. I guess many billionaires were made in the political families this year.

5 Million yen is not a lot of money.

Just looked up our confirmed trip and it said all ok and that we will not have to pay anything extra. January 6-9

Some say so long as a country does not borrow money from abroad, it does not matter according to Modern Monetary Theory.

I have 5M in savings, I am going to borrow 4M from my savings and buy a new car, the terms of payment will be 20years at an interest of 0.00001 percent. I make the rules.

The government will now pay 50 percent of canceled travel charges of up to 20,000 yen per person per night, up from 35 percent, taking into account how some businesses have already increased the number of staff to deal with the anticipated numbers during the holiday season.

While alot of small businesses that are not under the direct sphere of JTB like suppliers to restaurants and hotels and souvenir shops don't get even a crumb of the largesse.

Debts of the government will be astronomical. What will happen to us? Some say so long as a country does not borrow money from abroad, it does not matter according to Modern Monetary Theory.

I keep following the daily numbers in Japan, and so far COVID has been only a fraction as lethal as the common flu,

Death rate is not the only factor here. Add in hospitalization rates

Why are healthcare workers and hospitals calling for help, even the SDF, when it didn't have to do it with the common flu?

I keep following the daily numbers in Japan, and so far COVID has been only a fraction as lethal as the common flu, which will kill far more Japanese this winter. Overall, 2020 has seen fewer deaths from all illnesses than 2019, and far fewer than 2020.

All I can determine so far is that COVID is more of a mental condition than a physical one, and those most susceptible to it are reporters and politicians.

I don’t think you have to pay the 35% discounted price on arrival. The deals that have already been done are done.

You do. Look it up. And no voucher of 27,000 JPY I was supposed to get upon my arrival in Hokkaido.

Save your hard earn buck and change your plan, probably Iya Valley where you may get free stay at real Japanese village house plus organic dishes.

government being generous with MY tax money. Tourism industry is a scam in Japan anyway. Absolute rip off. I never go on domestic trips, for the price of a 'romance car' and a weekend in a bath tub with an overweight salary man I can get out to Thailand, Vietnam and eat delicious food and can relax.

Monty, I'm pretty sure JR alone was not covered by the GoTo program. So if they are just going home for the New Years holiday, then they are probably paying the same as usual. I think the point is, the government don't want them traveling home.

People will travel anyway, with the campaign or without.

Never underestimate the power of conformity in Japan.

A landsline of cancellations has already begun and it's just the second day after announcing.

Like thepersoniamnow said,

People will travel anyway, with the campaign or without.

90% of my coworkers go back to their hometowns. They dont need any hotel, because they stay in their parents house.

And our company holiday starts from Dec. 26th, but the Campaign stops at 28th. So they are all fine for cheaper Shinkansen tickets, because almost all of my coworkers go back to their hometown on 26th or 27th.

And if they go after 28th, they are OK to pay the full price.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

Most people will not cancel what they already booked and will go anyway.

Theyd have to pay the discounted 35 percent upon arrival at the hotel etc. though... So I think a lot of them will cancel it. Also not receiving vouchers sometimes worth in ten of thousands of yen at the destination hotel will bring the number of cancellations even more up.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Actually the reality is that most resorts and nice facilities, onsens, hotels in scenic spots, and even rental homes are all already sold out.

Most people will not cancel what they already booked and will go anyway.

So the notion that stopping it now is ending the travel is at best, optimistic.

Japan's tourism ministry said Tuesday it will expand compensation for travel businesses to further help them weather the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic, following the government's abrupt decision to suspend a domestic travel subsidy program nationwide amid a surge in coronavirus cases.

The key terms here are "compensating travel businesses". The big agencies and institutions will get paid off, still lay off a lot of staff to shore up their bottom line for the next fiscal quarter as it will still be quite a while, even with a vaccine, before travel picks up. And the mugging "talent"'s agency will not lose a yen either.

Excluding the public who are paying for the subsidies and laid off workers it is a win-win for government and business.

I was supposed to go to Hokkaido.

Pay back my 12man, Suga-san! Or else!

Book your Jan. 12 holiday now and hit a nice jackpot when they extend it till a later date.
