This will never happen. Doesn't really make sense to spend money worrying about it.
Geeter Mckluskie
Prudent move. Better to be self-reliant in food production, energy and communications

Taiwan,Japan do.not have a GPS constellation, these are only repeaters that repeats the US GPS signals

“This will never happen. Doesn't really make sense to spend money worrying about it.”
How can you be so sure?
gogogo
For "some reason" equals Trump asking for money.

"Japan do.not have a GPS constellation, these are only repeaters that repeats the US GPS signals"
Really?
What's this then?!
Overview of the Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS)
"QZSS (Michibiki) has been operated as a four-satellite constellation from November 2018, and three satellites are visible at all times from locations in the Asia-Oceania region. QZSS can be used in an integrated way with GPS, ensuring a sufficient number of satellites for stable, high-precision positioning. QZS are compatible with GPS"

Because why would we limit satellite access to an ally?

Unlikely Dump will be that petty when he is busy trying to overturn democracy at home.
Desert Tortoise
Au contraire. In a war with Russia or China the US would undoubtedly restrict GPS to use by friendly forces only.
Desert Tortoise
In a major war the free civil GPS signal would possibly be turned off. Even the civil signal offers opportunities for adversaries to exploit. The JSDF would probably have access to the encrypted military GPS signal.
WeiWei
Encryption doesn’t help as the signal itself is so easy to block by transmitting on the same frequency.
Triring
i guess you do not even know how GPS works.
Basically they are only sending out time kept within the satellite and the receiving component calculate the distance based on the time difference.
So basically ALL GPS satellite regardless which nation controls sends out same signals.

I believe there is a segment of the Chinese PLA that is tasked with ensuring that the US GPS system will be nonfunctional in the country that hosts the largest number of US military assets in Asia.
"China is rapidly expanding its military capabilities in outer space as well. Its killer satellites are capable of destroying U.S. as well as Japanese satellites. Chinese attacks could affect satellite communications through the global positioning system (GPS) we use every day and command, communications and intelligence gathering by the U.S. and Japanese militaries, preventing us from taking even defensive actions. The U.S. level of awareness of Chinese threats has risen to the highest ever point."

Right, I wonder why the European Union, Japan etc... are making their system. Also, the US can not be fully trusty are they are able to re-elect a Convicted Felon, cheater, traitor, a dictator on day one, putin / kim jong un lover, etc....
ian
Gps can ba used by everyone.
If US wants to restrict use by enemies , friend's use will also be restricted
deanzaZZR
So many on JT love to talk of preparation for war. Better to encourage peace today.
TaiwanIsNotChina
I agree. China should stop saber rattling.
Wasabi
Tell this to the Russian, Chinese, North Korean first.
Greenbus
Well done Japan. We need to have our own system in place. We cant trust America.
ian
Speaking of wars which country is always and most involved in wars not even close to their border?
ian
Which country has 800 bases around the globe
OssanAmerica
By invitation and treaties. Name a country that would willfully want the Chinese PLA or the Russian Army on their soil.

There are ways to defeat a jamming signal. You can probably find some descriptions of the technology from open sources on the internet. Civil users won't have that equipment but military hardware does.
Desert Tortoise
Umm, not necessarily so. Allied military units would have access to the encrypted military signal. The civil signal would not be present however.
Desert Tortoise
China has PLA bases in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, and their Navy has a base in Djibouti. The Sudan military invited the Russians to establish a base in Port Sudan after the civil government the military overthrew told the Russian to pack and leave. The Russians seem pretty popular in Chad along with Mozambique, Libya and Mali. They kill the regimes opponents with no qualms about violating basic norms of civility or human rights.
Desert Tortoise
That is why the US has been pushing eLORAN so hard. It is portable unlike previous iterations of LORAN, and because it operates at very low frequencies and is very powerful it cannot be jammed.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Doesn't matter how far away from the border it is. The russian is involved in the most devastating war atm.
