Gov't to help Ukrainian evacuees find jobs

Evacuating 10 000 kilometers away is a bit of an overkill, isn't it?

Isn't it nice to know that your taxes are paying for this?

So only Ukrainians get help with jobs? Be aware of hostile work environment.

These Ukrainians should have chosen other EU countries for refugee status since they won’t get one in Japan easily. They are being brought here just to show the world Japan is doing so much for Ukraine but in reality it’s just that Japan wants to look good internationally. They are being brought here as evacuees and not refugees so they’ll be sent back in due course when the world isn’t watching!

Hang on a sec.... they won't even give these people the status of "refugee" because that would mean allowing them to possibly stay, instead of the term "evacuee" with the promise of being able to stay up to 90, with the possibility of MAYBE staying longer, and they can get jobs?? Just give them refugee status already, with the possibility of staying permanently if they wish to, and then fine, let them live and work here. But to not even declare them refugees but then purport to be helping them out (to the media, of course)... sounds like it's more stuff just for show.

It is survivable, although it would be just that - surviving.. one step away from being broke on the street.

Same, if you are single you can get by pretty well here with less than 20man even in Tokyo. For that though you need a bit of japanese proficiency to find a decent place for yourself for less than 5-man and search for reasonable places for groceries etc. Monolingual foreigners shopping at seijo ishii/national azabu and living in their micro apartments arranged by their english-speaking agent say they can't "survive" on 250.000 tsk tsk

If "getting by" is the new success pathway for single people, I feel quite bad for that demographic. Japan doesn't have that much to offer to trade off a life at a dead end job.

Also, not sure why you think a monolingual is incapable at shopping at any grocery store or other shop they want.

I think most if not all will return to the homeland now that the capital is relatively safe.

Been to Hello Work couple of time when I was between jobs. Nothing came out of it, and I do speak Japanese (as a foreign language). Maybe they'll get them some short term part time gigs at best. Like teaching elementary school curriculum in Ukrainian/Russian to a non-Japanese-speaking child in public school for 1.5 hours once a week somewhere in Kashiwa-shi (Ibaraki).

I hope the government is starting the job offering services out of genuine concern for the plight of the Ukrainian refugees, not as a way to find a new source of cheap labor.

What about finding jobs for those who lost their jobs due to locked borders?
