Japan Inc just want to promote their tech AI, electronics and sensor that works in battlefield like Ukraine. Is not humanitarian, it's marketing.
Fighto!
Good on Japan and the international community. It will be a big job.
Leaving these Russian mines in the ground will result in deaths, limb loss and horrible injuries to Ukrainians- including children- as we have sadly seen in places like Cambodia.

This is one area that Japan actually has a ton of experience with. Down here in Okinawa it they took literally a decade to clear one area of close to all unexploded ordnance before the land was returned for civilian use.
PeaceIsReal
Well, Sven, according to your quote:
"The Russian army will defeat any potential enemy on this planet and on all neighboring planets."
I have to say if they’re enemy is free speech or living with a neighboring country they haven’t littered with landmines, maybe you’re right
Mark
thank you Japan!
TokyoLiving
Same as ALL the industrialized countries do..
Let's call it, "First World Inc"..
TokyoLiving
Kyiv regime mines do the same..

I heard someone said it takes decades to clear Ukraine's territory. It's going to be long way. Japan would do good job!

Japan does have a lot of hands-on experience in UXO disposal and mine clearing.
The EOD teams in Okinawa get an average of 400 calls for UXO at construction sites and beaches.
The SDF also deploys mine sweepers to Cambodia and Sudan.
Even in Tokyo there are a few dozen UXO disposed of every year by SDF EOD personnel.
Then there are civilian organizations like JMAS (Japan Mine Action Service) whose entire purpose is to dispose of UXO all over Asia and the South Pacific.

Who dropped the mines and cluster bomblets in Cambodia? Who supplied the Ukrainians with cluster munitions that have an alarming failure rate?
UChosePoorly
Thank you, Japan!
BeerDeliveryGuy
I you are trying to take a jab at the US, it was the Ukrainians themselves who requested cluster munitions.
So far they have been using them to great effect by luring Russian armored convoys into mined kill zones, then obliterating them with cluster munitions.

“The Chinese-made landmines in Cambodia were placed by the Cambodian factions (including the Lon Nol, Khmer Rouge, the Heng Samrinand Hun Sen regimes, as well as the Coalition Government of Democratic Kampuchea”
JBGirl
Tell that to People of Cambodia, where Japan mine clearing tech save thousands of lives.

imagine landing on an alien planet just to find its species set up devices on the ground to blow up each other. let's get out of here

Mine clearing is actually surprisingly low-tech, and is more about technique rather than technology.
What you’re imagining is ground penetrating ultrasound scanners and such, but the reality is dudes with metal detectors and a modified bulldozer with what is called a “mine flail.” Which is just a bulldozer with a blast proof cabin and a spinning roller with weighted chains to forcefully detonate mines.

The RAF are using the new smart technology remote Zemledeliye Mine-laying System to excellent effect - it effectively puts down smart minefields remotely by rockets 5-15km deep that cover football field sized areas in moments, with just a crew of 2. It automatically programs launch missions and self-destruct parameters for the scatterable mines and creates a map of the mined zone after planting the mines with all data transmitted to higher command tiers. It deploys by parachute the POM-3 anti-personnel mine which digs itself in and is acoustically triggered with a proximity seismic fuse, jumps in the direction of the target and detonates. Similarly the PTKM-1R anti-tank mine jumps up and attacks vehicles from above from a range of 50m. A purpose built reloading vehicle means that turn-around time is minimal.
The laid smart minefield can be monitored and controlled remotely from command echelons (i.e. to frustrate clearing) and are set to self destruct eventually. They are one of the unsung heroes for blunting the counter offensive to a standstill but don't get much of a mention.
Anyone going over there certainly has some homework to do.

I have one little automatic vaccum cleaner that is moving cleaning floor all day long. If someone invented automatic unexploded bomblets and mines cleaners and those gather them at one place and explode them at remote areas, no one would die during the disposal for sure. That is hi-tech.
TaiwanIsNotChina
They need mines going in. Maybe the ones they are digging up can be recycled against the fascist invader.
PTownsend
Yes, but if they do it is because a large invading force of marauding murderers and rapisrs, has forced Ukraine to defend itself and its sovereignty in any way possible.
wallace
It will take decades. Easy to lay but difficult to find and safely remove. The Russians laid them in layers.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Who invaded and added to the mines in Ukraine, necessitating the cluster munitions? Also US munitions are way better than Russia's.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Russian technology for savagery is still not much more effective than WW2 mines in the end and those will be just as devastating to their conscripts.
OssanAmerica
Kyiv is mining their own land to stop the Russian invaders.
The Russians are mining Ukrainian to stop the Ukranian defenses.
No comparison.
OssanAmerica
Japan has a long history of removing mines. both land and sea, that goes back to the Korean War. The JSDF has carried out demining missions in Cambodia and after the Gulf War.
Elvis is here
Indeed. I have no mine-sweeping experience but if Princess Di was still around, it would be done in no time at all.
wallace
Mine clearing is still happening in Cambodia and Vietnam.
Uchujin
Clear the country from russia first
Makoto Shimizu
There should be an international agreement, policies, that all costs be charged against the agressor country, this applies to this case, all Russian exports and imports should have some extra tax to cover these costs of land mines removal and also the damages caused by their attacks in Ukraine.
