A real pie in the sky idea

Hi Yrral, Perhaps that should be "Pie in Space?"

I'm ok with Space exploration as long as they don't leave any junk up there. To much up there already.

But I think/hope Japan will be responsible, so I support this.

Some projects are necessary to monitor potential threats “from space” (and/or “The Neighbors”) and to protect Japan’s assets and interests. However, much of this harkens to the overblown, Reagan-era StarWars defense systems. ($72 Hammers in 1981 ?) - What’s next for Japan’s “Space Force”: plans raise the Yamato and convert it into a space going vessel?

Announcement of monitoring threats .

Im not convinced about that

One hopes to not need to use one's weapons, but not having those weapons invites attack.

Gees, why not build satellites that actually work first? The current ones can't even detect how many NK missiles are flying. As usual, jgov barking up the wrong tree.

Thank the lord! And here I thought Kishi was going to actually give money back to the people, especially when we've been hard hit by Covid, like he promised.

Good going. The more nations exploring space the better. But this militarization is a violation of treaties and protocols. Ever heard INXS' 'Guns In the Sky'? We truly don't need or want that.

not a well known fact but Japan is a world leader in cleaning space Junk.

I guess, some blind civilians set the top priorities there. While they now even happily start playing in far away outer space, still not to mention all other far away missions, the whole country is already sometimes encircled by combined Chinese and Russian fleet , unanswered, and threats occur on an almost daily basis that already longer time require response air scrambles or coast guard on every occurrence. Is maybe the goal to shoot from space satellites some nice and technically perfect high resolution photos for the history books, of Russian troops marching through Sapporo and Chinese troops marching through Tokyo? lol

Why stop at 2 space agencies I propose one for each prefecture. The erected officials in space suits, it would at least give tv ratings a boost having governors and diet members dance together to gauge popularity. Then win massive tax payer funded unaccountable funds for their area. It’s the Japanese way.

I know, just sit back and watch the chinese take over, Island by Island, but start learning chinese or Russian soon.

A nation intent on defending itself from the most advanced weapons, such as those in service with the Russian and Chinese militaries, needs to develop very good space systems to provide communications, navigation, surveillance and targeting for their own forces.

That train left the station in the early 1980s. Russia and China both have ground based directed energy weapons that can disable satellites in orbit. In 1984 the Soviets attacked the space shuttle Challenger with a big ground based laser they called "Terra-3", disabling systems on the shuttle for many hours and sickening the crew. The Soviets were convinced the US Space Shuttle was really a nuclear bomber! The old USSR had a workable ASAT system in orbit by the mid 1980s. Today the Chinese have satellites with grappling arms that can kidnap an adversaries satellites in orbit and small "Kamakazi" satellites that can collide with enemy satellites and disable or destroy them.
