Infections across Japan have been declining, with the nationwide tally of new coronavirus cases at 2,242 on Wednesday, down from 6,000-7,000 daily in early May.

Anybody with a thinking brain knows it is declining. It is not rocket science that it is relative to the number of test. Testing continues to be difficult and low, contact tracing non existent (abandoned long time ago), even the highly infectious british strain mysteriously became weaker than the normal strain, same will happen to the indian strain.

This is great news and it will only get better with 1M daily vaccinations happening.

Then I have bad news for you since there never have been 1 million vaccations on a single day so far. Simply put, concerning the elderly they don't receive the number for all vaccinations for every single day and update their data accordingly. But on their website (not the PDF provided on the same website) they also add the updated numbers to the number of doses administered on the last day. I've written a longer comment under some other article and am willing to post it here again but the gist of it is that the website says something like 500 new doses yesterday for the elderly. But then the 500 also includes the 200 something that were missing from all the days before.

Yes indeed, thanks for the link. The most important sentence from that article and it comes near the start:

Japan has a long history of solving problems by lying about the numbers or altering standards to cover the problem.

Brilliant and simple explanation.

Thank you for sharing.

Didou

Yeah, Saitama is the same. Seems cities closed to Tokyo are under quasi emergency measures. So just one stop further along the line away from Tokyo on the express able to drink anytime, anywhere. No restrictions. Its weird. Really haven't been able to understand this whole thing. Japanese people I talked to also had no idea. Doesn't help when they keep shifting the posts, eh.

These quasi emergency measures do not apply to a whole prefecture. In Chiba, for example, it is only for the areas nearby Tokyo up to China city

I wish they’d stop pretending Suga or anyone else in power actually spoke with experts.

expert - noun

a person who is very knowledgeable about or skilful in a particular area.

How could any expert (or in this case a team of them) bumble and screw up time after time after time for well over a year.

Random salarymen yes men bobbing their heads up and down are not experts.

...provided they work weekends and holidays (which they don't).

Actually, they do. In my city, they vaccinate on weekends.

As well as the testing while the positivity rate remains high.

Bad key indicators, bad decisions repeating.

Part of me is like "yea, Kanagawa next week" and another part of me just doesn't care anymore since I'm leaving this island forever in 4.5 months.

Easy to do when you move the goalposts and change the way you count things.

Now that the government

On June 2, the ministry announced it would no longer include Covid-19 patients waiting for admittance or treated in “general beds” that are not registered as coronavirus-specific when determining bed occupancy. The new guideline decreased the number of stage 4 prefectures with a bed occupancy over 50% from 20 prefectures to 11.

I with I could change my taxes by deciding not to count income I didn't put in the bank.
