ALL this should have been prepped and done already!

Gods, I wish heads would roll, literally. The ineptitude of this country's government is infuriating.

Didn’t vaccines start coming available in about late Nov ‘20? What have they been doing since then?

Well, let's not forget that ex-PM Abe sent us all masks! That was something, wasn't it? (Sarcasm)

...will open a vaccination site in central Tokyo...

"A" site?

For Tokyo to vaccinate its 10 million inhabitants it would require about 6 years to do everyone at 10,000 per day (at 2 shots per person).

If Japan wants to simply vaccinate everyone in the country before the end of 2021 (thats 8 months from now), there would need to be over 1,000,000 shots given per day (at 2 shots per person) starting today.

A friend works for one of the largest mobile medical clinic systems.

For those that don't know what or how they work explanation below.

These clinics have large trucks that are fully equipped clinics, for health checks, influenza vaccination, etc.. they are often contracted to large, medium and even small offices and factories to go on location to do examine or vaccinate their worker.

This mobile clinic sent a request/plan to the health authorities detailing how they could take care of vaccinating all the employees of their client companies ( apparently so have several other rival companies).

They have the needed storage freezers, personnel, equipment, etc.. they were told that their services are not needed.

These companies have massive experience in vaccinating large numbers of people in a short time and can get the employees of several large corporations and factories done in a single day but instead of using their experience and skills, they government is going to waste time trying to create these centres.

Didn’t vaccines start coming available in about late Nov ‘20? What have they been doing since then?

“...the J gov’t has come under sharp criticism for its sluggish vaccination roll-out. Only about 1% of its population has been vaccinated, according to a Reuters tracker.” -

It would be a much better idea to set up many smaller centers across the cities.

A month ago my local clinic that does the yearly influenza vaccine was asked by the city to prepare as a local vaccination centre.

The city even sent over a small super cold freezer.

Now the government has taken back the freezer and said they may no longer use his clinic as the central government has changed it plans.

Seems very clear the national government is making things up as is goes and no plan is actually in place.

@Zoroto

At 10,000 per day, it will take 4 years to vaccinate the population of Tokyo.

Double that since its 2 shots per person.

15 ( +16 / -1 )

For Tokyo to vaccinate its 10 million inhabitants it would require about 6 years to do everyone at 10,000 per day (at 2 shots per person).

I was wondering the same thing and came up with 5.47 years.

Wonder who is doing the math at the J.Gov?

There would need to be 50k per day to inoculate 10M within 365 days. If by the end of the year, it would need to increase to about 100k per day.

Of course, there are a significant number of people who are too young or unwilling to get the vaccine. I don't know those numbers. That will cut it down some.

Even so, if the goal is only 70% for herd immunity, then it would still take years at this rate.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

How about following the procedure other countries do? Strip away the layers of bureaucracy and just start poking people? Don't have to be a surgeon to administer a vaccine. Get veterinarians, pharmacists, nursing students, anyone can do it with minimal training. Set up drive in clinics, mobile vaccine vans, whatever it takes.

Not a Biden fan by any means, but he and his administration have done a very good job at this in the US.

Vic.Mc - Don't you find it strange that Japan with it's large population does not suffer as much as other countries

I find it strange that people keep making this absurd statement. The statistics for the number of cases and deaths in Japan are dubbed to save face on the international stage and to keep the locals brainwashed. Only those who show flu symptoms are tested. Autopsies were not performed on many people and their deaths were not calculated as Covid deaths. As a result, the statistics released by the Japanese government are completely false.

Why not use the Olympic stadium

China made a 2800 bed Covid19 hospital in 6 weeks. Another in 8 weeks.

this Olympics stadium is ready now. Right now. Immediately. Doesn’t take two months to build, it is There!

Late to the party but I suppose it’s something even if too little too late. Vaccines available November, Japan sets up just one large centre at the end of April, if they are not careful they will bust a gut reacting so quickly to an emergency!

7 ( +7 / -0 )

My older daughter has already been fully vaccinated in the states at the ripe old age of 22.

As my younger daughter stands zero chance of getting vaccinated in Japan prior to the start of the fall semester, I’m sending her to the states early to get vaccinated.

I very well take a leave of absence from my job and go to the states for the express purpose of getting vaccinated if this pathetic display of impotence continues.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Large centers in major cities only equals spending days in long lines. It would be a much better idea to set up many smaller centers across the cities.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

h. This explains the ‘high’ priority:

- “Japan's 3rd SOE began on Sun, to combat the surge in cases, 3 months before the Tokyo Olympics are set to open.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Japan needs to get up to 3,000,000 vaccinations per day to keep up with the rest of the developed world and finish the job in a year. We should already be there. By the way, Now is the time for the Japanese Government (AKA The Cabinet) to start planning how they will implement the annual vaccine booster shots being developed by the manufacturers. Don't get left behind a second time!

5 ( +6 / -1 )

A decision has been made or hasn't it, lol. These clowns just get better and better

5 ( +5 / -0 )

I think the Olympic stadium would be a perfect place but will never happen because they dont want that image associated with it in the foreign media.

"Hey isnt that the stadium where everyone got the vaccine?" broadcast on international TV during the Games? not a good look.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Watch out guys, someone just step in the BS

Sorry if you like to say bs.

The city announced it was going to start giving vaccination vouchers ( several of Tokyo 23 did) as of this week but now say they are no longer doing so.

If your city/ward didn't that is to bad but ours and others did

My children's 90 + grandparents got notification that they could request a voucher starting this week.

Now they have been notified that this will not be happening.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

So, one single very large vaccination center instead of multiple small ones around the city? its almost as if the purpose was to cause crowding and elevated transmission between the people looking to get vaccinated.

Have you gone to the Tokyo immigration office since last year? expect 10 times more crowding with this solution.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Adding just another 20,000 a day is not really gonna help speed up the vaccination much.

Japanese government still have ZERO plans to on the logistics and distribution vaccines to the general population. I would be shocked if Japan can average 200,000 vaccinations a day by end of this year. But since vaccinations tend to drop to only around 20,000 / day on weekends, I highly doubt Japan's daily vaccination average would ever exceed 150,000 a day.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

The government people are just as smart or dumb as you or I.

Let me fix that:

The government people were once just as smart or dumb as you or I but after years and years of living in their own little world, having never to answer for anything including incompetence, they have forgotten what life is little for the rest of the people.

Now this is not exclusive to Japan it is universal in all countries.

A simple example is my own sister back home, after 20 years as a Federal government employee she doesn't understand why so many are worried about their jobs, income, rents, not even after her own brother and husband got laid off, she is like "can they really do that?" Like every other government employee she is totally clueless that non government workers can be fired.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

These vaccination centers will be operated by the National Government in conjunction with the local government vaccination sites. Similiar to in the US where you have state and federal vaccination sites. It's a slow but step in the right way, got to utilize more SDF personnel and more mass centers though.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

that will be able to vaccinate around 10,000 people a day

Look, we get it. This is too quick and too new for you dinosaurs. How about we start small at least 1oo people, per day, everyday. At every small clinic and hospital around each city and prefecture. Will that help ease the pain you morons?

You know, anything! Instead of not one person on any day?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

However I still find it very odd that Japan which has had no lockdowns had a lower death rate in 2020.

Cleanliness and mask helped us to avoid other sickness.

Every single other country got total death numbers at lowest, some even lower than Japan.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Wow. Starting to close the barn door half a year after the horses have bolted... and never come back... and the government just sitting near the barn and waiting, and praying. I'd say better late than never ever, but we're so very close to never that it's negligible.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Get a move on!

My work is very slow at the moment, so I would happily volunteer to train as a jab giver. I'm sure there will be many more people in the same situation.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It’s very queer then to see that deaths fell in 2020, yes fell during a pandemic.

This makes perfect sense. Fewer people are out and about to get involved in accidents. More people taking precautions against covid, which are even more effective against other diseases. I don't think we should all be cowering behind our couches, but we definitely need to look at the facts for what they are.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Double that since its 2 shots per person.

Make it half, because 50% dont want to take the vaccine.

Not a Biden fan by any means, but he and his administration have done a very good job at this in the US.

What you're describing there could remove the power from those that normally handle things like this, and this would in turn dent their income, and we can't be having that.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Strange that some claim the government lie about the amount of deaths caused by Covid.

Real doctors and real nurses tell me that they can't do post-mortem tests.

They also tell me that even if a patient gets admitted because os COVID, they won't count as COVID death if the last PCR test was negative.

Its easy to check as it's been brought up officially in some 国会会議s.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

It's a good step, having the central govt take control, as Biden did, and using large scale facilities. However, other developed countries have been doing similar measures for as long as a year now. What has taken Japan so long?!?

0 ( +3 / -3 )

It would be a much better idea to set up many smaller centers across the cities.

Hmm.. it does smell like a refrigerator problem .

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This country manages to vaccinate tens of millions of people every year against influenza. Surely the starting point is right there?? Just get people jabbed as fast as possible, it doesn't matter in what order.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Idiot of ldp, ya think? Vaccines for Osaka n Tokyo... what about other in this tiny tiny tiny overpopulated island?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Also I so many died from Covid then the story would surely get out.

You can't expect conspiracy theorists to actually think their theories through.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I'd like to see Tokyo Dome and all the other domes used as vaccination centers. Places like Saitama Super Arena would be suitable, too. Of course, the owners would squawk. The baseball teams would complain about lost revenue from not being able to have home games, but this is a national crisis and it is all for the public good, isn't it?

Some people above suggested the Olympic Stadium but it doesn't have a roof and would not be suitable, especially with the rainy season and a humid summer coming.

Too Little Too Late,

Since mid Feb. these health officials have been GAMBLING with people lives, can't decide how, when, or what the priorities are. bouncing around and not being able to have a solid plan when all they needed to do is just look at other countries system, improve it and move forward.

NO Need TO Reinvent The Wheel.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

We have decided that is we have to take a packed train to a stadium, where people are not social distancing and half the old men ahave their masks below their noses, we will not get the vaccination and instead go an another fun trip around Japan. Great time to see the sites as noone is travelling except to and from work in jammed trains.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Also I so many died from Covid then the story would surely get out.

please refer to: bokuda Today 03:25 pm JST

The Covid deaths are being actually cutted back, its out on plain sight.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Monty

Make it half, because 50% dont want to take the vaccine.

....and dont need it either, sincy you do not need to inject every single person in the population to reach herd immunity.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

@bokuda

Thanks for the information. However I still find it very odd that Japan which has had no lockdowns had a lower death rate in 2020. Also I so many died from Covid then the story would surely get out. If e are talking about hundreds of thousands for instance this cold not be hidden.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Idiot of ldp, ya think? Vaccines for Osaka n Tokyo... what about other in this tiny tiny tiny overpopulated island?

America will never allow japan to buy cheap Russian or Chinese vaccines. As most elderly Japanese people live in rural areas, Modena/Pfizer vaccines are not practical.

vaccines have become geopolitical

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

People need to stop expecting government to be competent to centrally manage and plan everything.

The government people are just as smart or dumb as you or I.

The problem is the central planning itself just doesn’t work well usually. Einstein could be in charge and it’d still seem incompetent.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Strange that some claim the government lie about the amount of deaths caused by Covid. It’s very queer then to see that deaths fell in 2020, yes fell during a pandemic. These conspiracy theorists cause havoc and fear amongst usually rational and happy people. Please take your vaccines and hide indoors if you believe this tall story

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Finally a step in the right direction !

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

No thanks, do your research on vaccines. People don't want to put GMO foods in their bodies but are

happy to take a vaccine that is untested and where the drug manufacturers by law have legal protection

from being sued for any damages as a result of the vaccine. The info is out there, just look. Go look at

the list of side effects of popular blood pressure meds with warnings to seek urgent medical help, yet

vaccines are deemed to be safe.

Don't you find it strange that Japan with it's large population does not suffer as much as other countries

with no vaccinations, virtually no social distancing and ridiculous lock downs etc.
