If Japan had their way, they would have the entirety of Japan, all its foods, citizens and society on the UNESCO list.

The huge boost in numbers suggests that some people don't think a place is worth visiting and then suddenly when it has a UNESCO listing they do, despite the fact the place has not changed.

I do hope Amami gets recognised, it's an amazing place that deserves more recognition, which would hopefully lead to more funding for the last big push to rid the islands of the mongoose.
