I happened to watch the scene on TV. The aircraft swayed violently when trying to take off.

The article says it was not because of a mechanical failure of the aircraft but because of the pilot's error of not fully raising the aircraft's flight power.

Quadcopters don't have the speed or range of a tilt rotor aircraft. A V-22 is capable of 275 knots, comparable to a turboprop airplane. The ability to fly long distances fast and yet hover like a helicopter is unique to tilt rotor aircraft.

Well, the Osprey seems to fly on the delicate balance of dynamics, harshly controlled by computer programing.

The same is true of large helicopters. If you turn the Stability Augmentation System of a CH-46 or CH-47 off they are darned hard to fly. We would practice it from time to time on the off chance you had that particular failure but you are a sweaty mess after five minutes trying to keep the thing under control.
