So many people complaining about foreigners being "kicked out" when the whole point of the measure was to let them extend their visa.

How is it funny that visa overstayers are shown the door?

Isn't it funny how efficient J-gov can be when it comes to laws concerning foreigners and booting them out of the country?

When it is a question of expelling foreigners who have overstayed their welcome or outlived their usefulness, there are none of the usual deliberations, drawing up options and endless meetings. The J.Gov can work fast, like in this case.

The ONLY time they can work fast.

When it's a question of running you out of town, the government is quite efficient; aren't they?

Very. Its the only thing they know how to do.

Slow to let ‘em in, but quick to kick em out.

Yup. its Japanese culture.

Good! I'm glad they will be finally able to reunite with their families back in their home countries. I imagine it would'be been painful for those trainees to forcefully being in Japan after they completed their technical training as that's what they exclusively came to do, right? ... right?

Most countries have allowed their citizens back. Those 79,600 foreigners are from where?

My question exactly! I was given one extension in June 2020 on my 90 day visa, then denied when I tried again in September of that year. The reason they gave was that it's "possible to fly now." Is there anywhere left in the world not allowing ANYone in?

Seems reasonable, although I would hope they make exceptions for some whose situations might be more difficult.

Back in their country, they can apply for a visa and come back. So easy. I’ve done it many times.

The measure was introduced in March 2020 during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, mostly targeting foreigners who had completed their technical internship programs or studies in Japan.
