Japan to send another 1.1 mil AstraZeneca doses to Taiwan

The reason Pfizer is the prefer vaccine in Japan even that Pfizer is more problematic ( handling and storage). Is that to get the optimum out of AZ the 2nd dose should be administered 12 week after the 1st dose. less then 12 week, AZ is less effective. Where Pfizer is 21 day for the second dose. That is 3 week for Pfizer to get a citizen fully vaccinated to AZ 12 week to get a citizen fully vaccinated. With the Olympic and Infection growing Pfizer is a no brainer. Both vaccine have a life of 6 months when keep stored correctly. I assume Japan Heath must have batches of AZ that will not be use and the life of vaccine will soon run out. I hope this is not the only reason for donating but also genuine good well gesture by the Japan Government.

So when the inevitable vaccine passport is introduced, will people inoculated with AstrraZeneca be able to travel freely with it? Taiwan/Pacific Islands/others who are given donated vaccines: say, "No". It is not worth it if these vaccines are treated differently depending on where you are.

People will unlikely be able to travel freely anyway. The "vaccine passport" is a scam and will not be relevant come next flu season and vaccinated people come down with Covid again.

Then the tune will be "vaccine booster passport".

And the sheep will follow.

So, are we all vaccinated in Japan then? I mean, companies can no longer apply to vaccine their staff and if we're now sending supplies abroad, we must be about done here.

And there was me thinking we need to massively up the vaccination drive.....

It's payback for Taiwan's rapid help and support to the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami. Also a geo-political motive as any moves on Taiwan could potentially threaten Okinawa.

I'd happily take it if they were actually using it in Japan - lets not forget it has been approved here they are just choosing NOT to use it but may do soon in the over 60's. Abundance of over caution - typical Japan.

The Taiwanese are complaining about the previous shipment causing nearly 150 deaths raising anti Japanese sentiments there. Wonder if they are going to be grateful this time.

I love how Japan keeps canceling their own vaccination attempts because they claim they don't have enough vaccines and over scheduled millions of people. Then turn around and keep sending millions of vaccines abroad.

In the past week, Japan has had suspend the vaccination program in several large cities all across the country due to lack of supply, and it also stopped allowing more companies join the work-place vaccination program for the same reason as well.

But they can give away vaccine to foreign neighbors in the lead up to the Olymp.... oh wait, thats the AZ vaccine they are giving away, right? Yeah, that was deemed not good enough for Japanese people, but good enough for its "friends".
