They are making it out of Balsawood?

That couldn't possibly cost more than a couple million dollars. I think the public needs to know exactly where every single Yen goes as it is spent, and receipts are required.

This is where all your hard earned money went.

If you ever wonder why they keep increasing the taxes over and over, now you know.

In addition, some 3.4 trillion yen will be allocated to demonstration projects at the event such as "flying cars," the government said.

More taxpayer subsidies for Toyota. Why can't the companies involved pay for it?

Pigs in blankets this Christmas?

Nope,pork barrels in concrete!

Money well spent.

Big picture, the government plans to spend at least 112 Trillion yen next year, while tax revenues are only around 70-75 trillion yen.

Japan is run by Keynesian economic thinkers, so moaning about this white elephant is missing the forest for just one tree.

We need a Milei-like figure for Japan.

Hemorrhoid chan the mascot is the only good thing about the whole event, and even that is a travesty.

Sounds like a textbook case of the sunk cost fallacy.

For heavens sake stop throwing away public money on pointless vanity projects like this.

if they run out of money they will just raise taxes again...

Yet another project from which the elites can skim tremendous amounts of money a la the Tokyo Olympics.

It's all towards the Integrated Gambling Resort (Casino) which will be built on or near the site afterwards.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Read that this is likely going to end up being the often discussed casino for Japan once the expo is done. So someone high up will be forcing this through at any cost to profit from that.

And of course, the comment before mine already made that. Should have read to the end, lol!

Initial budget was explained "125 bil". But, total cost including infrastructures construction will be over 13 tril.

LDP regime and far-right "Ishin" party and economy circles are obsessed with wasting taxes for Expo2025 despite many citizen still suffering infection disease or poverty. It look like benefiting related corporations from taxes is its purpose as same as Olympic 2020 or unreal Henoko base construction.

Politicians need there

Can't deny a politician its take..

There's a reason no one else builds huge public structures from wood -- it's very costly and requires on-going and costly maintenance. But for the cabal that runs Japan, money is never an object when funding comes from the public.

A major insurance company in Tokyo is building a new HQ from wood.

I remember it being reported that Trump personally requested Abe for the casino project for his friends in Las Vegas.

Find out who won the Construction contract and start working your way back to the LDP.

fresh fake money printed from nowhere. GOV should let citizens print money at home as well...

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

These projects should be Private, why do tax payers have to pay for these projects when everyone knows it will be yet another SCAM

7 ( +8 / -1 )

It's all about laying down the infrastructure for the casinos they play to build in few years.

Hard wood is good.

Brake! BRAKE!!

We have constructed wooden pyramids, in honor of our escapism.

The concept of affordability can easily be dispensed with when you know that those who are ultimately paying for the boondoggle have been conditioned since birth to be inured to deprivation in all its guises. Kaching kaching; for however long it takes.

That money should be going to the many elderly who are barely making it and who are still working in their 70's like my friends who have a pension, but because of prices being high but more so because of their health care premiums getting hiked up by 20 thousand yen when they reach 70 have to work. Then you got these politicians, too, getting caught with their hands in the cookie jar stealing taxpayer's funds which is easy to do when you got these projects like this one when there is little accountability.

Tax payers in Japan get to pay for it and are then charged to go and see it?

Surely, a scam!

3 ( +5 / -2 )

This is just another political scam with the government giving the builders and organisers more chances to scam taxpayers...........and of course, that's a given, their greed is endless and their pockets very deep. Now we can just sit back and wait for 2/3 yrs until the corruption charges are filed and and some one lower down the chain of greed takes the fall. I bet the whole population knows this already so it will not be any surprise. But of course no one will serve time time, because the judiciary will have been paid for to.

There is a disconnect now between tax revenue and government spending. When the government needs money it just prints more.
