How do you say talking out of both sides of the mouth in Japanese? From one side of the mouth, China so dangerous! From other side, China いらっしゃいませ! You can't make this stuff up.

Hoping for more Chinese tourists to come? Bring their money? The think is, non thing works in isolation. Holistic, the hot word today. You cannot be hostile with your right hand and try to make friend with the left, hoping to benefic. So, you need to assess what you really need, then go all out to do the right thing. Not push and pull. Fooling no one.

You never know when another pandemic or a major war breaks out. And when it does, inbound tourism would certainly be one of the first casualties. But some people never learn and they repeat the same mistake over and over again,

Of course tourism brings in millions of $$$ to Japan as, it does to any country. But it also brings into the country thousands of problems.

It brings in trillions of ¥¥¥, not $$$. What problems does it bring that aren't worth the hundreds of thousands of lives that it supports (mine being one of them)?

But some people never learn and they repeat the same mistake over and over again,

What mistake? Allowing tourists to visit?

Money erases all fear it settles all negotiations and turns a wrong or right to favor whatever the intended interests may be. No matter the cost.

Japan has done just fine without Chinese visitors for 3 years and I don't wish to see them back in droves. Really, how can Japan even consider such a move when China has illegally locked up a businessman without providing any evidence of any sort?

Big mistake this is by Japan.

I was in Kyoto the last two weeks and it certainly seemed like there were 9.59 million Chinese tourists there then!

According to so many articles we read on here, China is hostile and aggressive and one could be forgiven for drawing the conclusion is only moments away and yet Japan is hosting parties to promote tourism from China. Have to agree with other posters this seems to be a real conflict of thinking

China was the source of COVID mk1, and mk2... now it's also the source of mk3 which is no longer being reported as COVID, yet has the same symptoms as COVID 1 & 2 - so if you have a PCR test, they'll tell you you're negative, however it's just as virulent, so beware.

I won't be surprised soon to hear - "COVID no longer exists, it never did - it was all just a bad cold"....

Background: Governments need to get rid of the Old and Weak - the Pension systems can't support us, the Food supplies are overstretched, and the Energy demands can't be sustained. Think about it....

How is that different from hordes of Chinese tourists wanting to visit Japan while the Chinese government keeps trying to steal the Senkakus?
