The Chinese Coast Guard sends ships inside the Japanese EEZ but not inside the 12 nm territorial limit.

Chinese government ships enter Japanese waters near Senkakus

Two Chinese coast guard ships sailed in Japanese territorial waters off the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture on Saturday.

Great ProMo shot, everyone is laughing except the one guy.

The other two are already engaged with targets, that these guys are oblivious to.

It only took several decades for them to finally decided to strengthen their cooperation further with these kind of drills. Took long enough.

Considering Japan's WWII history and the fears of Japan's neighbors it makes complete sense that the JSDF never developed an amphibious capability. Until recently Japan's neighbors would have seen a Japanese amphibious force as a threat to their own sovereignty. Today those same neighbors recognize the threat to theirs and Japan's territorial integrity from China's own rapidly expanding amphibious forces so today none of Japan's neighbors are going to protest Japan developing their own amphibiouis capability.

The so called JSDF has allowed the Chinese armed coastguard ships to frequent inside ishigaki city limits for years and not done diddly squat about it.

The Chinese Coast Guard sends ships inside the Japanese EEZ but not inside the 12 nm territorial limit. That is an important difference. They can legally sail inside the EEZ but Japan has control of the resources inside their EEZ. The Chinese like to send Coast Guard ships into the Japanese EEZ with Chinese fishing boats claiming the EEZ is Chinas. So a subtle but important difference. The EEZ isn't part of the Ishigaki city limits. also legally Japan cannot prohibit other nation's ships from sailing in their EEZ. They can't fish or explore for oil and gas, but they can sail through. So far that is all the Chinese have tried to do.

Hiro, Japanese soldiers are useless to American, they will only be in the way, maybe they should just fight themselves out of a wet paper bags, like paper Tiger do

I never had an opportunity to exercise with the JGSDF but I have been on a ship assigned to a JMSDF task force once. The JMSDF is anything but useless. I have said it here before, the JMSDF is possibly the best ASW navy in the world. The ships are simply superb both in terms of their condition, their attention to survivability and damage control, and the technology on board. A Japanese warship can be plugged into a US Navy task force and it will operate seamlessly. The Japanese force we were part of was highly professional and competent. And woe to the Chinese or Russian sub they ever encounter!

Don't know why they didn't hold the drills on the actual Senkakus.

They probably will conduct exercises to small islands at some point in the future. Japan has no post WWII amphibious experience. The JSDF is starting from scratch. Get the coordination down (JGSDF, JASDF, JMSDF, USN, USMC) things like basic procedures, communications interoperability, targeting, coordination with aircraft, etc. in a training grounds before trying it in a more complex situation trying to land on an island.

I don't know the particulars of this training ground but many big western exercise ranges are heavily instrumented allowing the participants to see a detailed replay of the exercise during the debrief to see what went well and what needs improvement. In subsequent iterations the participants can see if they improved their weak areas. Hard to do that when you conduct an exercise someplace that is not an established exercise range.

A strong Japan is not only good for East Asia but it's good for America as well.

A stronger Japan can help against the growing threat of Russia, China and N. Korea.

@Kyo wa heiwa dayo ne What you are reading is for informational purpose ONLY! Do you really think that the arm forces will tell you everything? First you don't have the proper clearance for a need to know this is why you only received the "Miniscule details". You don't have a need to KNow!

That's very miniscule details !

And completely not impressive at all.

Sorry but the article does make the Japanese military sound a little incompetent without the help of USA.

I wish JAPAN would take a stronger stance with its territorial issues !

Japan's constitution isn't pacifist any more so they might as well burn it or use it as toilet paper !

There's a reason the Ryukyu islands are still named the Ryukyus.

Its a Chinese name .

Okinawa is a Japanese name.

Read the map.

Not talking about the 9 dash line.

The senkaku islands are within ishigaki city limits which is the main hub of the yaeyama islands.

The so called JSDF has allowed the Chinese armed coastguard ships to frequent inside ishigaki city limits for years and not done diddly squat about it.

I don't consider whining about it to be a solution.

Black Label: "Me too! but some posters here get super mad when they see a military person on the train, in Roppongi or not wearing a mask. Quite triggering for them for reasons."

It's funny you mention that, because those people have gotten aaaawfully quiet since Russia invaded Ukraine. In fact, I haven't seen any anti-base posts at all since. With China watching what's going on, and Russia setting up military drills on the Russian islands, it's like they suddenly remembered something.

Japan and the U.S. form the perfect alliance and hopefully S. Korea is as committed as Japan to protect their democracy and freedom. Japan is facing multiple threats on multiple fronts, it is vital that Japan be able to defend and repel any aggression with or without the help of an ally like the U.S.

Ready to defend the American Empire from the imagined Chinese invasion. Ready to increase the Defense budget to purchase U.S. armaments at inflated prices. Ready to tear the Constitution to shreds.

All the jingoistic, nationalistic, right-wing fundamentalists who have been having wet dreams about rise of the once great & almighty Japanese Empire are smiling.

All the knowing military aficionados commenting on the paraphernalia of war as if at a fashion show. As if war is a game.

Japan is not chess piece to be captured. The expanse of China is not geographical, it is economic. Why destroy a valuable market?

Japan remains a client state, subservient to the whims of a dying American Empire - allowing an army of occupation on its sovereign soil. Following the dictates of the PNAC. The islands, the first line of defense for the US, in its vain intent to contain China by the only means remaining - use of is bloated military. An armed forces defeated by peasant armies wearing sandals and with donkeys for transport.

As many view a war with China as imminent, the result would be: China, would flatten Japan and turn it into a smoking ruin, an ash-heap. There is no need to invade. Except to turn it into a tree plantation or a Chinese farm.

The wisest course Japan could do follow is to remain neutral like Switzerland and Ireland.

As WW2 revealed, which was obvious to the war planners, Japan is an island with few natural resources and incapable of sustained warfare. More so, in the present. To engage in such is more than folly. To follow the dictates of the USA, even more so.

Although the photo doesn’t show the entire squad of Marines, the lack of M240s and the suppressed M27s and crash-style helmets suggests these aren’t Marines from an ordinary infantry company.

Probably an assault team, Recon, or some form of MAGTF.

Of course they revealed it to the press. The whole point of these exercises is to be a public display.

It serves as a warning to adversaries, and as an assurance to the local population.

makes me feel good that Japan and America are close allies that have each others back in times of war against the tyrants of the world.

Me too! but some posters here get super mad when they see a military person on the train, in Roppongi or not wearing a mask. Quite triggering for them for reasons.

big ups to MEF, GDDF and all our protectors.

one container with 1000 drones controlled bij AI with every drone armed with a granat .. is 100X more efective as these teh army ..

Drones or UAVs of that size could probably only hold a payload the size of a single bullet, with a flight time of 15 minutes and would rely on existing communications networks to control it.

Meaning that it is highly susceptible to EW (Electronic Warfare) countermeasures and useless as a lethal weapon.

It doesn’t matter how many drones you put in the sky. To win a war you need to put boots on the ground.

Since the laws enable Japan to exercise the right to collective self-defense and/or defend allies even when the country is not directly attacked, makes me feel good that Japan and America are close allies that have each others back in times of war against the tyrants of the world. Japan and America have come a long way and its partnership is not easily swayed no matter what the dictators think. A strong relationship causes ill willed people to pause and re-think their diabolical deeds. Indeed to say the least. Indeed.

Don't know why they didn't hold the drills on the actual Senkakus. That would have emphasized that they are Japanese territory. Perhaps the US nixed that plan.
