Chinese people must fill in a survey upon arrival in Japan.

People with Caronavirus symptoms will not be allowed into Japan.

I guess they don't get paid the big yen for nothing!

Urges, not banned. Japan is really behind the curve while the rest of the world is way ahead of the game in "BANNING" travel to China. My prayers lie with the people of China. It is devastating news being leaked out with multiple cries for help.

The US only today raised its alert level to strongly urge against travel to China, so I assume you think the US is behind the rest of the world too? Besides North Korea and Russia, there doesn't appear to be any outright travel ban to China so what the hell you on about?

This virus is certainly bringing down the price of airfares that have a stop in china.

@mrbaberunee Well there's definitely a much higher risks, airport is a place where people from different places gather. Depending on date you fly might get additional screening depending on the situation at that time.

These notices are there for a reason, i would avoid it if possible given that the situation in China isn't in control yet.

I don't think there's anywhere that have banned China, but lots of countries have stopped all flights coming in from Hubei. The rest of China is still being closely monitored.

When I mentioned that due to the government's response to this and how they brought back others without quarantining them and that embassies are starting to send out alerts to their nationals to avoid crowded places IN JAPAN, and that other countries may well start urging people to avoid unnecessary travel here, a co-worker of mine went ballistic, saying, "We are not China!" The thing is, if infection spreads, you are, except perhaps not willing to quarantine. Reminds me of when Japan adopted the photo/fingerprint machines for people coming into Japan, then got upset when they were subject to them in other countries, some saying, "But WE are not terrorists!"

Yes, avoid travel to places where people are affected if you can, and if you can't, take any and all precautions, including undergoing examination upon return. Japan is now one of those places, I'm sorry to say. So, just be smart. If you travel in crowded places, take what precautions you can. Don't wear a mask and then think it's a panacea and you can rub your eyes and nose, etc.

Japan should know that the diesease is all over the world. The latest in Usa, russia and even in italy. As usual ignorant.

A very passive aggressive move. I saw in the news today that Russia has closed all of its 4,000+ kilometer boarder with China for the next month. Nobody in or out. Perhaps closing the boarder is a little over the top, but Japan really needs to get serious about quarantine and travel to stop the spread of this virus. Urging people not to travel is not enough.

You sure about that hotel? Most don't want any foreign guests at this time - the last thing they need is a foreigner contracting the virus at their hotel. Hope you have a car to sleep in.

I have zero faith in those masks to protect me from contracting this virus. If it's in the air in the immediate vicinity, most likely I will get it whether I'm wearing a mask or not. It's not like they're like a gas mask which will protect you.

Israel banned all flight connections with China.

Russia closed its border with China.

Mongolia closed its borders and banned its citizens from travelling to China.

Singapore closed its borders to all travellers from China.

Paupa New Guinea has banned all Chinese from entering.

Nepal has closed its border with China.

Vietnam has closed its border with China

Macau has closed its border to mainland China.

Various countries including Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Kazakhstan have limited or eliminated visa on arrival for Chinese.

Lots of other countries have banned people specifically from Hubei Province.

And North Korea didn't just ban Chinese, but all foreign tourists from anywhere (mainly since they all come in through China anyway).

Correction, Paupa New Guinea actually went so far as to ban all "passengers from any Asian ports"

How about enforcing so real safety precautions like other countries have or are they thinking through their wallets?

@davinda You listed a lot of countries, and only one of them (Mongolia) has banned travel to China. Banning Chinese from entry is a whole different thing than banning a country's own citizens from travel. No free country should have a right to do that. The distinction is important.

Unless all those people who want to travel to China have no intention of coming back, I don't see such a great distinction under the present circumstances.

A border goes 2 ways, so if people can't cross in from China, it also means people can't go to China.

Seems like the US is now considering banning flights to China, but then again, they already ban their normal citizens from travel to North Korea, Iran, and (once again) Cuba (for Iran and Cuba the US technically doesn't "ban" entry, just that its illegal for any US citizen to spend any of their money there, so by paying for accommodation, food, or simply just paying the airport arrival tax on arrival would be illegal.)

But who needs countries to ban their citizens, when Facebook, Ford, HSBC, LG, and a slew of universities have now specifically "banned" their employees and/or students from travel to China.

Japan is taking serious measures that's why you only have a few Japanese infected and not hundreds or thousands! Duh

I urge fellow posters to use facts and less anti-Japan propaganda... so I can actually take you seriously.

This strain of the virus appears to be not only transferred through coughs & sneezes landing upon the unfortunate ones surrounding the Carrier, but also through the air they breath out even when no symptoms are present... which is troubling. Also touch/contact is another concern.

Best wear a mask on commuter trains, and wash hands / face when back in the office/home after travel.

Indeed, when home - take a shower to wash off the daily commute anyway, is a good idea.

If this virus escalates, then then next big thing will be provision hoarding..... that's something we need to anticipate in order to be not caught out like those looking for face masks now.

Japan has no choice but to ban certain individuals even though it will cause economic pain.

The alternative is dead bodies in the streets....

Hopefully we are not slowly heading towards the "God Help us all" phase.... though if we are... then what do you all think we should be doing ?

Please be smart. Identify the sources of the virus first. China may not be the only one, as simple as that.

Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Kezakhstan, Kyrgystan, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, NK, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Vietnam, Mexico and more coming on. Meanwhile China is "not secretly" burning bodies but burning the bodies as quickly as possible to reduce contamination as much as possible. The numbers leaked from doctors is that test kits are running low as it takes 2-3 kits per patient before a "positive" is confirmed. Many folks are testing negative but hrs later testing positive. The US is not behind the curve but given the size and advancement of medical tech acting responsively as most others have not. If the borders of the US where on China you can surely bet the travel ban would have been enforced pretty close in the manner of closing the border. What is surprising though is the countries being infected and not infected. If I was to assume then it looks like bio-terrorism or an early test if I was a conspiracy theorist. What is important is getting the help to the areas most needed which in this case are the people in China as their own government is clearly overwhelmed. Surprisingly is that BIG PHARMA has been really quiet.

The problem with that is, the incubation period is about a couple weeks. So, people may not show symptoms, but may still be infected.

Sometimes the problem isn't 'traveling to China'. Most of the time, the problem is 'China coming to us'.

won't help at all unless you wear Goggles that will not allow air to pass your eyes. Look for N95 or better and they will help but not totally prevent as virus particles will get through. But know the virus usually rides on water or dust droplets so will help.
