Article 9 seems to be ignored everyday.

Japan is evaluating Baykar Bayraktar TB2 for maritime patrol role.

The first step is to conduct training to use drones to identify foreign warships. If successful, the SDF will adopt drones for operations involving fast-moving aircraft.

The SDF is considering purchasing the Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 or the U.S.-developed MQ-9 Reaper.

Article 9 seems to be ignored everyday.

Try actually reading Article 9. It only prohibits starting wars.

Why do the Japan keep spending billions and billions of Yen on weapons? Let the your American overlords defend you, they have over 126 bases in Japan to do it. Stop buying weapons, spend that money on the people.

Spend it better into higher birth rates. Do you really think, in the future a few still active out of the average 80 years old can handle and operate drones or can otherwise save any area from invasion? And in those times, I wouldn’t even limit it to Chinese threats, they are sliding into aging too, but many other big and highly populated countries not. Those might be searching for land and resources one day, although I now still refrain from naming them here directly.

The US has 23 “bases” and camps in Japan.

The rest are facilities such as regional liaison offices, port and logistics, unmanned communication relay stations, fuel depots, etc.

I imagine a round table, with 12 or so 80+ year olds handed the task of "research drones and autonomous vehicles to counter China invading our waters".

I imagine half of them knowing what a drone is.

I imagine a few of them trying to open Internet Explorer to google drone.

I imagine a couple of them sleeping.

I imagine a lot of overtime hours in the coming years.

It seems to be very easy to spend money when it's not yours. If politicians had to pay from their own pockets they'd be more careful with the expending.

@eastman

"We..."?? First, don't pretend you are Japanese, all your comments never support Japan.

Second, the article is about maritime security. China seems to be upsetting many countries in the region with it's bullying territorial tactics.

Can you name another country that doesn't want the presence of the US in the region apart from China and NK?

send them back home and problem solved right?

There will certainly be a new problem, it's called "China".
