Stop flying to China and don't allow China's airlines to land in Japan. Two can play this game.

Ok, The U.S. Navy & Air Force is going to need to setup an AOR over the East China Sea in order to protect International Flights over International Air Space and over International waters.

Any attempt by China to shoot down a Commercial Airliner filled with innocent civilians will need to be intercepted by Sea or by Air Power.

Furthermore, Economic Sanctions and Higher Trade Tariffs need to be considered as a disciplinary measure towards China as a result if their latest attempt at incurring upon International Airspace and the Senkakku Islands.

China has no rights to the area, and will pay the price of their stupidity.

China has all rights to the area.

In a sense, Japan and it's culture is inherit from China; the Japanese were once Chinese. China is struggling to get back something that was never taken from it. China's technological strength is growing at an exponential rate. If China wants ultimate control over these islands, now all they need to do is to wait a couple more hundreds of years to simply take possession of not only the Diaoyu (Senkaku) islands but the entire Japanese archipelago. It won't find resistance, because the Japanese will by then be extinct. China won't pay the price for their stupidity but the Japanese will.

One of the problems of Chinese goverment is the apparent lack of communication between China’s civilian goverment and military leadership. There seems to be a disconnection between China's military and civilian goverment and sometimes you have to wonder who is in command and in charge. This is the reasons why Japan and U.S. needs to improve high level dialogue with China on military issues for more transparency to minimize future accidents. They need to know who is in control of the Chinese military and who has the ultimate authority, and there is doubt that President Xi Jinping and the civilian leadership has control of their military.

****If China is serious, how come they didn't have the nads to shoot down those two B52's that flew their so called air space?

9 ( +9 / -1 )

The Chinese are quiet after the b52s? Do you know what is Bruce Lee's behavior in that type of situation? He is not cool with that.

So they should tank... Or should I say kamikaze... the entire economy over this issue? Because cutting off air transport with their biggest trading partner would do just that.

Usually they call that cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Welcome to Communism.

Good. China's unilateral decision is naked provocation and nothing more. That JAL and ANA even considered complying in the first place is simply astounding, particularly when China stated civlian carriers were exempt from the request. Companies putting profit before ethics, nothing new there, I suppose.

It seems jp gov think his face is more important than people's life, i've no comment about it however l wouldn't take ana or jal these couple months...

Play fair children.

Welcome to Communism.

They stopped being communist about 30 years ago. About the biggest hustlers I've ever seen

3 ( +5 / -2 )

I imagine the conversation went something like this:

Airlines: While we sympathize with your situation, as private entities, our priorities lie in the safety of our passengers and the security of our aircraft.

Gov't: Very admirable. Let's continue to the next item, landing slots at Haneda.

Its just been reported on other websites that after the B 52`s flight China has ordered its only aircraft carrier with 4 supporting warships into the area for " routine exercises "...not good.

That's how Bruce Lee's eyebrow rising looks like.

China will just be a nuisance with any civilian flights that don't comply. The smart move was carrots and sticks - civilians announce plans, military walks all over, just as the US did yesterday.

That's true. They replaced "communism" with "nationalism" and kept their socialist system. That makes them National Socialists. Remember what we use to call countries like that in the 1940s?

The Chinese air craft carrier is a reconditioned Soviet Era "jump" carrier that sat for years dockside unfinished. It is hardly a threat ...more of a paper tiger. They have no trained air group, they may be able to launch planes from it, if they got the catapaults working, which i doubt but they will not be able to recover them at sea as it takes immense skill to land on a carrier at sea. So that is another example of very bad judgment on the part of either PRC military command or the political leaders or both.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Shame it took this for these gutless corporations to stop giving China flight plans. Traitors.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

I don't care about the politics behind this. What I care about is that commercial airliners should NOT be putting innocent lives at risk.

While Chinese people are great, the Chinese government is generally controlled by a bunch of child-minded megalomaniacs. We all know this. But let's leave these matters to the government and military. When it comes to me flying at 30,000 feet with ANA next month, I don't want to be on the receiving end of an air-to-air missile, thank you very much.

ANA and JAL. Play it safe. Give the people with the itchy trigger fingers your flight plans, for Pete's sake!

It's international air space.

Marcelito, The aircraft carrier and convoy were already organised to head to the South China Sea to parade around the Paracels and Spratleys. It just so happens that they will be heading through the East China Sea to get there. Some people are calling it a response to the B52s, but that it is not.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Correct the maneuvers were already planned, they just have more meaning now and i believe the task force has been expanded a bit by additional forces from the SDF. There ARE the two new SDF carriers and they may well get to have some "training" as well.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Get the glass bottom boats ready china coz that's gonna be the only way you'll be able to view your aircraft carrier and 4 supporting tin cans while they sit on the bottom of the ocean floor, haha china is becoming more and more of a joke as every day passes.

Stop trade with china now, stop sending the dump resources like oil, coal, minerals, technology, investment, fuel and factory orders, stop buying her cheap made rubbish, look at the labels of what you buy and if they say made in china throw them back on the shelf and walk on by.

Plenty of other developing country's would love the opportunity to make things and could do it cheaper than these belligerent fools.

Any trade war and Japan is the biggest loser. You should think before you use the keyboard. Most of Japans trading partners rely more on Chinese trade than Japanese. China has energy resources, Japan none. Got any more ideas?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

spudman, ppl really want quality not quantity, made in china is famous for its poor quality while made in japan is praised for its high quality. what does ppl want to buy? made in china or made in japan? the world is not just china and japan. minus china out of the world map still leaves hundreds of other countries with many resources and market.

Horse puckey. Plot a different flight path. Yes, it may cost airlines a little more, but those costs can most certainly be absorbed by an industry that has mysteriously managed to get away with raising its fuel surcharges -- costs that were ostenbibly supposed to offest expenses incurred in the wake of terrorism and two Middle East wars -- at a rate more than twice the increase in actual crude oil over the last two years. Even more amazing, is that very few airlines reduced their fuel charges to reflect periodic drops in the price crude over the past decade. Funny that, eh?

It's would take swallowing a remarkably large grain of salt to believe even for a minute JAL and ANA were putting the safety of their passengers first when they rolled over to this extortion from China. Maybe second or third on their list of priorities, but most certainly not the first thing that popped to mind for shareholders and these carrier's Boards of Directors.

Spudman how did japan do so well back about 20 or 30 years ago before china emerged as a place for cheap labour?

Plenty of places for cheap or cheaper labour nowadays, and lots of companies are pulling out of china and heading else where already, and lots of people want to sell resources, japan has the technology and we know they have the experience, the world could get by fine without china, cut it out and cut it off, no one supply resources to it and no one buy from it, then what does it do, no oil, coal etc its masses freeze and starve in the winter it would be north korea Mark 2, go back 20 or 30 years where was china on the world stage?

It would just be one giant shuttered factory with millions of unhappy starving freezing out of work people all pissed at their govt. Although maybe a little difficult the rest of the world would still turn round and function.

Japanese ariline considered safety of customers than their profit. They did not tale a chance.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

This is not good. These airlines are risking too much. If they anger China, their airplanes might be toast. What Japan should do to maintain the status quo is to defend the same area and also ask for identification until China retreats.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

noriyosan73, you said it as succinctly as I would. Best comment of the bunch. But I'd go further. The US, Canada, South Korea AND Japan, not to mention Australia and the rest of Southeast Asia should threaten withdrawal of all Chinese passenger aircraft landing privileges. All those Chinese tourists and bureaucrats would freak. Their government would backpedal so fast you'd think they s**t their pants.
