Interesting, however disconcerting and frankly strange.

Sorry, but horrible.

Nightmare material there.

Great for being part of the uniforms for staff working at ramen shops to wear. It will sure generate lots of laughs. There are other ways to prevent glasses fogging up. Just Google it. Also there is something called contact lens. However, not all people feel comfortable wearing them.

It looks like someone had too much to eat . . . .

Awesome dude!

The 'bowl' is filled with cotton and it weighs almost as heavy as a stuffed toy," he said. "So it doesn't feel comfortable when I put it on."

Then I'll pass thanks..

But his glasses are not cloudy.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

The world has gone stark raving mad.

Damn, the thing looks horrible and it ridiculous, but for some reason it made me laugh, as said by yoshisan88 it would make for a fun twist of the uniform of a ramen shop (I would just feel a little sad for the employees that would have to wear the thing all day long)

Shibata, who said he wanted "to cheer people up a little bit"

Well, this made me chuckle, so he succeeded.

Shibata, who said he wanted "to cheer people up a little bit", has no plans to sell the mask along with his other artwork.

To make this newsworthy, he should be selling these masks. This is basically an art exhibit that no one can ever see unless you bump into him on the street.

I bet he's super popular with the ladies.

Nerd alert!

Clearly designer Takahiro Shibata is skilled/talented.

Also, one has to pose the question, when Takahiro Shibata was utilizing his abilities, the considerable time it must have taken to construct and build, a protective mask that looks like a steaming bowl of ramen.

Did Takahiro Shibata pause for a minute and think why?

Actually, I have a position for a talented designer.

Great idea, but I’m a vegetarian.

Good on him for showing a bit of imagination.

Interesting, however disconcerting and frankly strange.

This might as well be Japan's new tourism slogan.

Japan: Interesting, however disconcerting and frankly strange.

A face-full of ramen, almost like a movie, a noodle eastern...

Wake me up when he tells us what we can do to prevent glasses from fogging up. I've bought some liquid from the drugstore which helps. There are also some wipes and I hear doctors and nurses use a simple trick which is wiping them with water mixed with detergent and that will help temporarily.

ridiculous

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Not something I would ever wear, but as a person who wears glasses which get fogged up I do appreciate the imagination on display.

I went in drugstore and asked manager what mask he recommends for virus protection. He said non will protect me. After asking why he is wearing one, he replies : people believe it will help them to protect and he been instructed to wear one... Read any mask box cover. It's written those mask are for dust etc not for virus and bacteria.

The masks are used to prevent the spread of the virus. Of course they are not 100 percent able to stop it. But it's proven that wearing masks slows down transmission rates. Literally, it takes 5 minutes of research to find this out.

https://health.ucdavis.edu/health-news/newsroom/uc-davis-experts-science-says-wearing-masks-and-social-distancing-slow-covid-19/2020/07

Along with preventing someone from transmitting the coronavirus, a range of new research shows that the risk of infection to the wearer is decreased by 65%, said Dean Blumberg, chief of pediatric infectious diseases at UC Davis Children’s Hospital.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover-guidance.html

Masks are recommended as a simple barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other people when the person wearing the mask coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice. This is called source control. This recommendation is based on what we know about the role respiratory droplets play in the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19, paired with emerging evidence from clinical and laboratory studies that shows masks reduce the spray of droplets when worn over the nose and mouth.

Am quite concerned at people deliberately and repeatedly posting false or misleading information about the virus. It's very irresponsible.

One part of Japanes culture that is tasteless is this facemask and advertisments with demonically possesed food(food with faces and looks alive in cartoons or tv advertisements)。

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Read here... Covid exist as common cold for decades... That's Oxford medical here. https://academic.oup.com/jid/article/185/9/1338/938156

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

Kinda cool, now that masks are becoming the norm for many people why not and become creative with them?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

So what is the rating on the mask? N95?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The 'bowl' is filled with cotton and it weighs almost as heavy as a stuffed toy," he said. "So it doesn't feel comfortable when I put it on."

He could remove the cotton filling and reinforce the edge of the bowl with wire to make it stand away from the face. Also a bit of wire over the nose bit.

That would make it lighter and a lot more comfortable.

@tommy. That’s true. But double masks with straps around the back of the head combined with eye protection are OK for most people.

japanese paper mask wearing is about manners and conformity, not prevention.

So I guess I'm reading it wrong when my box of masks says ウイルス対策? No mask is 100% full-proof, but even the most basic of masks can reduce the spreading of viruses, especially when sneezing, coughing or talking. The amount of viruses you're exposed to can make a big difference. If you want a mask to be bullet-proof, then use your house as a mask.

Your story reminds me of the stories that Trump comes up with when he says 'Someone came up to me and said, Sir,....'

"The 'bowl' is filled with cotton and it weighs almost as heavy as a stuffed toy," he said. "So it doesn't feel comfortable when I put it on."

How stupid.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster approves.

R'amen.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Stupid and insensitive.

The more one views the photo, just adds to unsettling nature the whole activity.

Although having said that Cleo**,** application of structural, engineering face mask principles. I am stunned.

So, now instead of not being able to see because of fogged glasses, he won't be able to see because of the giant fake ramen cup in front of him. He'll drop this idea as soon as he realises he can't see his smart phone while walking, or anything else below the horizon.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The question, why does one wear a face mask in the first place?

Regardless of the dangers of the pandemic.

So why would Takahiro Shibata see fit to design a facial fixture so incidental?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Is he Vomiting !???

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Nice ramen face.... lets not make masking of face a fashion as no one wants to wear a mask like this for the rest of their lifes period

0 ( +0 / -0 )

look ramen face. the reson your glasses fogs is because the mask its not sealed like a N95 mask.....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He won't be sharing his Covid19, but you can look at his ramen face and think about dinner.
