Wish they put this on the heads of all of those nicotine addicted folk that stink up izakayas and restaurants here in Japan!

This is important research because most addictions that are not driven by blood content but by connections in the brain

I hope it reaches the public soon. I'm one of those idiots that has had an addiction and a habbit for 48 years from growing up with an living with smokers all my lif while trying to give up countless times. Yes I have a mental condition and proud of who I am but not of being a smoker. I take time to not smoke infront of children or places where the smoke effects others. So not a compleat idiot.

Hahaha! Sounds like a bad joke for lovely Canada, but yes life is crazy, still would be nice out here in Japan to enjoy SMOKE FREE izakayas, restaurants, I do not want to breath in a bunch of nasty second hand smoke let alone have my kids breath in that junk, right Semperfi??

One also wonders what other effects the magnetism has if it can interfere with a brain process. What other mental processes can it interfere with?

Mexican if you don't like smoke in resteraunts or izakayas the solution is simple....DONT GO.

Maybe he prefers to just eat and drink out rather than smoke out.

Second why would you bring your children to izakayas? I mean those are pretty much bars that serve food.

No, they are not. By your definition, a Japanese family restaurant would be a bar.

@ryukyucajun

Who said Senor Elbuda took his children to izakaya ? People smoke all over the place and just walking down the street can become an extremely unpleasant experience...

They found that by interrupting this connection, the addict was better able to control his or her cravings.

Wow, they finally call them just what they are "addicts" which are in this case "drug addicts" and we all know how a drug addict can behave when they don't deal with their addiction.

Japan has come a long, long way in trying to protect the "rights of us non smokers" I still remember the first time I saw a Japanese cafe in Hawaii, from the waist up it was pure white smoke, go all the way to beautiful Hawaii to spend it in an air conditioned smoke filled cafe full of Japanese??? Must be an addiciton?? Anyway, I have very nice Japanese friends, etc..and they also do not like smoke at restaurants, izakayas, bars, etc..but Tokyo is now behind Kanagawa prefecture in protecting non smokers from second hand smoke, shame on TOKYO!

magnetic lobotomy? Sounds scary, sounds like someone poking around with a huge stick in fine hardware they don't completely understand as well to me. I don't think i'd volunteer for an experiment like that. Who knows what happens while the delicate balance that has evolved over millions of years gets disturbed while disrupting just one point. If this gets finetuned ... then what's next? The anti-crime helmet ? The headband you wear from birth. Excuse me and my big brother fears. It's great science but i think the potential is quite scary as well.

Elbuda Mexicano:

Wish they put this on the heads of all of those nicotine addicted folk that stink up izakayas and restaurants here in Japan! Japan has not passed laws prohibiting smoking in bars and restaurants, like Canada and USA have . . . . . .. . . . . . . . .It is a kind of a joke in Canada, because you can be fined heavily for smoking INSIDE a restaurant or bar, while an the exact same time OUTSIDE the restaurant a drug deal can goes down openly and the cops don't have the muscle to arrest, much less convict. . . .

Smoking is ridiculous, and those who do it are idiots. I used to smoke, and yes, I was an idiot for doing so. Giving up is hard, but not impossible. This kind of study is good, but in reality all it takes is a bit of good old fashioned grit and will power to quit, and stay quit.

Interesting research. You have to wonder when the practical application will be available.

There is no single addiction spot in the brain or brain cortex. Brain is addicted to itself and substances which brain is compulsively consuming are being utilize as a trigger for brain self-consumption. In other words brain always like to have good time with or wit out magnetic stimulation present. This article is likely a little hope for people with addictions but at the same time can not be totally dismissed.

Not every country follows your ideas or beliefs. Smoking is more accepted there. Find a place that is smoke free
