I pray that this tragedy of war will not be repeated

That opinion clashes with the actual j-gov trying to "fix" the Article 9 of the constitution.

No it doesn't. The LDP are advovcating amending the Second paragraph of Article 9 to recognize the existence of the JSDF. Nobody is talking about touching the First paragraph which prohibits starting any wars.

Why doesn't he wear traditional Japanese garb for these ceremonial photos?? Would look so much cooler and show pride in Japan's traditional attire!

Nah, it wouldn't.

He is 88. Good for him that he got them to allow him to retire, so he could be free of stress for his last years.

Wish him the best, Get Well Soon Sir.

There is nothing in the constitution that requires seppuku, All life must defend that life as well as it can.

Wishing the Emperor Emeritus well.

WOW, let me guess what they are carrying, could it be a collection of his ancestors bones

Japan's Emperor Akihito, flanked by Imperial Household Agency officials carrying two of the so-called Three Sacred Treasures of Japan,

Queen Elizabeth is 96, she didn't "retire" and she has 10 times the number of official engagements.

She has some health and family issues too but manages to carry on. Maybe its a British work ethic and duty thing?

Just saying.

I wish the Emperor Emeritus good health and happiness in his retirement. He guided Japan through many decades of hardships and rapid change.

@OssanAmerica

It's not just article 9 that's wanting to be changed ! As usual your incorrect

What part of changing the war renouncing constitution and preemptive strike capabilities do you not understand ?

The sword ,the mirrors and the magatama ! They all came from the old Korean kingdom.

If he is still alive then his heart hasn't failed? Strange headline there JT

Heart failure do not mean instantaneous death, as the article clearly explains "hearth failure" is a medical diagnosis where the organ can't function properly and fails to pump blood normally.
