And remember, the Japanese imperial forces were fighting the Americans in the Philippines.

And remember that the Japanese imperial forces killed far more Filipino civilians than they did Americans. No wonder the overwhelming majority of the local people were on the side of the Americans.

Nobody's hands are clean, What's important is that the PI are now allied with both the US and JPN, against a common aggressor adversary- China (PRC),

The Philippine-American War, 1899–1902

"Philippine-American War lasted three years and resulted in the death of over 4,200 American and over 20,000 Filipino combatants. As many as 200,000 Filipino civilians died from violence, famine, and disease."

saying the Japanese "are now our allies" who believe in the rule of law.

actually it is illegal for Japan to train, practice and prepare with the intention of offensive military action under Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution. So what “rule of law”?

Perhaps actually reading Article 9 of the J-Constitution prior to posting "it's illegal" might improve your credibility. Nothing contained therein refers to training and preparing with other allied nations. And the right to defense, both unilateral and collective has been firmly legally established. The only thing that Article 9 makes "illegal" is starting a war.

"ARTICLE 9. (1) Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes.

(2) In order to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be sustained. The right of belligerency of the state will not be recognized."

This is a welcome event, its time for Japan and its allies to show China who's boss in our side of the Pacific. I'm looking forward to the day when the MSDF also makes even more frequent port visits in Subic.

Japanese fighter jets land in Philippines for 1st time since WWII

Pedantic it is, I know, but did Japanese jets actually land in the Philippines in WWII? Japanese fighter aircraft, of course did, but jets? (Yes, I know it's pedantic, but if no Japanese fighter Jets have landed ever before in the Philippines, then the headline just sounded a bit strange to me). I actually don't know WWII Japanese experimental aviation history that well, (I know about the German Messerschmitt Me 262 programs, etc, but not the Japanese equivalent). So, I'm curious as to is Japan actually did have any experimental fighter jets in WWII that were in the Philippines.

The Kikka, made by Nakajima flew it's first test flight on Aug 7, 1945. Obviously too late to enter the war. Only 10 craft were produced. And yes, you are being pedantic but the article should have said "fighter planes".

From the article itself; "in a bid to promote mutual understanding and defense cooperation between the forces of the two countries." You'll notice the term Defense Cooperation, there is a difference between defense and offense, a huge one.

Great news! America is on it for sure. Welcome back Japan. Let's do this!

Lol the story heading is so gaslighting. Japan lost the war! The Philippines invited this jet. Trust and believe Japan loves the Philippines with all its heart. Let's get those communists together! Fighto!

Great timing for a news item of this nature. (Check today's date.)

Of course, not.

The Germans actually engaged allied bombers with jets at the end of the war in Europe. But, although allies, the Germans and Japanese did not cooperate on technical matters nearly as much as the Anglo-Americans. A good thing they didn’t, too.

The more weapons, the more peace! Japan should hand out a free machine gun to each household. If your neighbor annoys you, just show them you have the bigger gun, and neighborhood will become very peaceful, and everyone will live happy ever after...

I don't think so... look at America... everyone has a gun and people are scared of being shot. Arming civvies in PL is not a good idea.

Imperial Japan does not exist anymore - nor does NAZI Germany - we live in a new age where liberal democracies are being infringed upon by nations ruled by tyrants - without limits - without due process of law - and we - in those liberal democracies have to stand shoulder to shoulder against such tyranny - The Philippines won an arbitration suit in the UN (of which China and Russia hold veto seats on the security counsil) that territorial claims made by China have no basis in historical fact - instead of acting as a responsible world citizen - and abiding by the ruling - China - which by rights should be turfed off the security council - as should Russia for it's violating of UN charters for invading another country) China ignored and did not abide by the UN finding - this is the age we live in - this is why Liberal Democracies have to be each other's best friends - stand shoulder to shoulder against the tyrants of this modern world

Philippine Air Force's commanding general, Lt Gen Connor Anthony Canlas, told Kyodo News late last month that he welcomes the first visit by Japan's fighter jets to the Philippines since the war, saying the Japanese "are now our allies" who believe in the rule of law. (the article)

... unlike a couple neighbors, who rather want to aggravate the relationship with Japan.

The second point is to show China that if it ever came down to Japan and China having to fight together in mutual self defense

I meant to say if it ever came down to Japan and Philippines having to fight together..... D'oh!

Philippines needs a fightet aircraft more capable than FA-50… at bare minimum they need JAS 39 Grippen NG variant.

The point of such exercises is for each nation's military forces to familiarize themselves with the other nation's military, facilities, terrain and climate and to practice standard operating procedures with each other so that if they ever had to work together in a shooting war they would be able to do so seamlessly. The Philippine military doesn't exercise with a lot of advanced military forces except the US.

The second point is to show China that if it ever came down to Japan and China having to fight together in mutual self defense, they can do it. One more thing to keep some lights on at night in China's Ministry of Defense. None of this means Japan, or the US, is going to attack China. That is a ridiculous thought. But it is useful for the Chinese to be clear on the thought that if they push nations too far they have the ability to resist.

War in Taiwan is imminent.

No it's not. In fact I would wager that something starting up in the South China Sea where China has so many territorial disputes with basically every nation bordering that body of water is a lot more likely than China doing something really stupid like trying to invade Taiwan.

Apparently Marcus is trying to act tough, indirectly telling his neighboring countries that he is courting the favor of US & Japan.

He is filthy rich, that does not mean he is super-intelligent or a know-all leader.

F15s were 50 years old fighter, many Japanese F15s were built in 1980s more than 30 years old now, close to the end of lifespan and won't last very long!
