Difficult situation for Japanese govt. Burma produces 33000t of rare earth metals. We desperately need them. The military govt has control of them. Japanese govt is probably saying “those damn pesky journalists”.

One way to guarantee he will not be let out is to make a statement like this:

Quote: "We want the junta to stop oppressing the citizens of Myanmar, and we seek the swift release of the many detained journalists, including Kitazumi, who strive to tell the truth," Isoko Mochizuki, a fellow journalist and long-time friend of Kitazumi, told a news conference.”

Great for a world audience, but straight up the nose of the military authorities.

"The journalists have asked the Japanese government to apply more pressure on the Myanmar authorities"

Why would they? It would further point out the hypocrisy with Japan's abominable human rights issues (would they accept refugees fleeing certain death in Myanmar? Nope. They'd send them back to it), and force their companies like Kirin and Nissan to stop supplying the Junta with alcohol and other products.
