News?

Yeah...last time they were there, they stayed offshore and only sent in planes... and those did not land or linger too long.

With that said, I find Japan's lack of commitment to maintaining a fleet air arm disturbing.

Maybe they're there to apologize '(not holding my breath, by the way)....

There is no need for an apology. An attitude like that just promotes hatred. Anyone who wants an apology needs to do some ancestry research. No group is innocent. The other Asian countries need to learn a lesson about this visit. Every day of the week there are groups of Japanese tourists at Pearl Harbor. They are welcomed because Americans understand that it WAS NOT the tourists who attacked. Even the pilots who did attacked in 1941 and who visited as tourists were welcomed just as Americans were welcomed by the Japanese at this year's Hiroshima memorial. Pathetic hatred and a continued promotion of such an attitude needs to stop, and it will stop if the educated and civilized human beings say no to the above.

I am hoping this means cute Japanese women in uniform walking around today!!

@Jason: What would they apologize for? An act of war? It's not like it was Nanking, they were attacking a military target.

I look forward to seeing them, i saw them pull in.

Nobody angry?? Sure white folk can forget about Pearl Harbor, they invaded the native Hawaiins land then because the US navy had their ships their, Japan was already pissed off at the USA because of the naval blockade against Japan, so Japan retaliated against the USA by striking out at the closest US target, the Hawaiian islands that WERE NOT US territory, Hawaii was still those islands claimed by King Kameha Meha, not some old fart back in Washington DC as US history books make us want to believe, so when you get people comparing Pearl Harbor to NYC getting whacked upside the head by terrorists on Sept.11 2011, sorry, yes NYC was taking over by white immigrants many years back, but Hawaii recently, then annexed as the 50th state in the Union, so if you look too Japanese and are flaunting it in Hawaii, you may get a big local brudda, who will let you know real quick that neither the Japanese nor white folk from the mainland not welcomed by the native Hawaiians, so we can see who the real victim of Pearl Harbor was not just those that drowned in the USS Arizona, but the millions of NATIVE HAWAIIANS who were killed off by outsiders trying to save their souls.

You are so wrong, i have lived in hawaii for half of my life, hawaii became part of the states long before pearl harbor. Most native hawaiians are very welcoming of others.

noriyosan73, well said! Thank you. My father fought in WWII and he would (and has) said that at the start of WWII the Japanese people were lied to. He's not asking for an apology from anyone in Japan (or Germany) today.

This is our naval squadron arriving at an allies port. Why all of this crud about apology. It was the foreign service that messed up on the declaration of war. Our forces did nothing wrong, they were told the DOW had already been sent to the Americans. It was a "clean" attack unlike so many battles that came after it. Again this attack happened 70 years ago, give it a rest!

This article should stop using the words "Japanese Navy". It's inaccurate. Japan does not have a "Navy" because it is restricted by Article 9 of their constitution. What they have is a Maritime Self-Defense Force. And comments about WWII show how ignorant people are of today's reality. The USN and JMSDF have been training together for decades now. Kinda late to be making Pearl Harbor comments.

Interesting comment Yuri, so in your opinion an undeclared (which is what it was through design or incompetence) attack is ok but what happens in a declared war is not ok. Yeah love the philosophy there.

Again this attack happened 70 years ago, give it a rest!

Thats hilarious coming from the person who constantly brings up the US attacks on Okinawa.

Remember this little gem not so long ago:

many of the Americans were like animals due to their intense racists hatred of the Japanese. Just try goggling "American war crimes" and see how many hits you will get. My family spent years in a concentration camp and that was after the war! It was the American practice not to take prisoners in the battle for Okinawa. So I suppose Americans killing hundreds of thousands of people by bombing should not surprise me.

Or this one

1/3 of the Okinawa people were slaughtered to meet the hate of the them American people. The people of the Japanese cities were innocent as well. There was never a need to kill so many.

You make the statement that it was 70 years ago and to give it a rest yet you are happy to constantly bring up and bemoan the actions of the US 70 years ago. I guess you want one side to give it a rest while you continue your tirades. I guess its hard to play the eternal victim when the other side airs its grievances hey?

Alooohaaa!! I hope both navies have a great time out in beautiful Hawaii!!! Aloha and just say no to pakalolo??

"The USN and JMSDF have been training together for decades now. Kinda late to be making Pearl Harbor comments."? Not really. Ozawa---still breathing and aspiring---has a philosophy: align with China against US. So how about a CN and JMSDF training together sometime in the near future??
