Japanese startup, university pointlessly develop 2-minute COVID-19 test that will never be accepted by obstinate authorities
There, fixed it.

That is about the same accuracy as most antigen tests. Japan reinventing the wheel again...

Been reading about these quick tests for a year now, and they never end up in the shelves.
Probably afraid of the result, as tests would then become widely available to the public, which would go against the “Olympic” vision of “low” cases in Japan.

Is testing legal in Japan? [ Heh, heh....]

Would be nice if the tests are easily accessible to anyone. In other countries, tests are free. In Japan, it's either you pay 20,000yen or be almost dying before you can get tested.

Available next January possibly, with a price tag of 58,000 yen if you take out the the three year test plan, which gives you tests anytime you need to go overseas.

That's the thing, Japanese startups do not necessarily think about the japanese market. Specially on diagnostics and therapeutics. Since they already have started the patent procedures overseas it is not hard to see where they are aiming to commercialize their products

Seems like a good option, fast and easy without too much drop of sensitivity etc. But it is better not to hype it until it has been tested clinically and results published, it would not be the first time something that works wonders in the lab have unexpected problems when tested on the patients.

Great. I’m sure it will be used abroad.

This will be such an improvement on the well-established 10 minutes test... from Abbott Labs. Ever heard of them?
as others said... try testing first. Then improve on testing.

I just don't got it, why didn't Japan make research and innovating a vaccine to cure the Covid19 virus instead importing from foreign country?
