What a shock! It's not as if Chinese tourists do anything to improve the image of China.

Anyone been to Ginza recently? It's like a cesspool of inconsiderate people who constantly shout.

Big shocker there.

Whenever Chinese tourists abound, locals brace for impact, as if facing an invasion.

Negative people are always negative, and positive people are always positive.

Negative people are always negative, and positive people are always positive.

Not only is this logically incorrect, it's irrelevant to this article.

I think anyone would have a negative view of China after hearing that millions of people are being held in prisons because of their ethnicity and those and others are being harvested alive for their organs. And that's just what we know has been going on for the past 10 years...

Thank you Ritsku, for raising the level of discussion above people whining about tourists.

I'd be interested in a comparison with views of China before Xi came to power. Seems to me like most of the developed world is having second thoughts about China.

No wonder about the negative perception of them.

When I used to work in Rome in the touristic field the most noisy and bad mannered tourist groups where chinese,we really had bad time trying to explain them how to behave.

A Chinese-Canadian friend who worked in Beijing told me that Chinese everywhere love money, but those in China have made opulence and greed into an art form.

I think almost nobody here actually read the whole article....

Doesn't matter ! Nothing worth to feel regret about! Japan needs Chinese market especially the automobile market much urgently in coming years! Better don't expect the Chinese will view japan in positive in coming decades or centuries! If it was not about Donald Trump and his intimidations, the China-Japan relations will worsen and ever than present!

@ele2000

IMHO, the auto market is as guttenasfukinened globally, I would be very surprised if there's a substantial auto market in China in a decade. Japan leads the way in transport (specifically public transport), the world will follow. It's just not sustainable to have private car ownership anymore, the roads that has to be built and maintained, the cost of maintaining private autos....and in China, it's all about central controls, private auto is anathema to central control so it will be discouraged and phased out too (except for the CCP elites of course).

Japanese views on China remain negative despite thaw in ties

I don't think its a view unique to the Japanese.

Only negative people view things negatively, and as return they become even more negative.

Only naive people view things naively, and as return they become even more naive.

China, we like your consumer market and tourist money. Other than that, lets keep civil

Negativity doesn't make a country great.

Exactly! That perfectly explains why the Chinese Communist Party is so negative and touchy. Who would complaint about a cartoon character, a travelling monk, a nobel peace prize, tweets outside their country...negativities.

Negativity doesn't make a country great.

China is negative to all who have freedom of speech and expression and say things that the Communist party want controlled or banned.

I am glad to see you coming around and that China's negative reaction to normal freedoms means it is not a great country.

Japanese have more freedoms and do not wish for repression and hope one day China becomes less repressive. Japanese wont trust the Chinese Government until then.

Negativity doesn't make a country great.

But you've said in previous posts how great Japan is...

Japan is hardly alone in the world on their view of China.

"Kudo believes a rapid rise in the number of Chinese citizens traveling to Japan, as well as an increased use of SNS as one of the major factors for the welcoming trend."

No... this SHOULD be welcoming, but most people I know do nothing but complain (to me, a foreigner) about foreign tourists, ESPECIALLY Chinese and Koreans. When you point out how they alone give trillions to the economy every year they grow sheepish.

World views on China remain negative despite thaw in trade and kowtowing to the Chinese market

Fixed the title

Self reflection is not a trait that Chinese are known for. It's a very bad sign when the more people have contact with you, the worse the impression. China is in pretty unique territory in that regard.

Replace "Japanese" with "Global" and we may have a more accurate picture of the current situation. But, to be fair upon normal Chinese people, I think also the word "China" in the headline should be replaced by "CCP" too, then we have a "meaningful" headline.
