papigiulio: "Cockroaches and mosquitoes are the only 2 species I would like extinct. They serve no purpose at all."

Stupid statement. They both serve VERY important roles, especially mosquitos. Granted, city-dwelling -- and the result of modern humanity -- cockroaches serve less of a role than they do the important role of saprophite in the forests, but still. Mosquitos are an important source of food for birds and reptiles, among other things. Both are irritating, to put it mildly, but without them things would be a lot different in the world, and not for the better.

(and by the way, cockroaches have so far provided interesting research on the possibilities of radiation proofing, given their natural immunity to certain types of radiation).

As my wife once remarked to me "At least cockroaches aren't f###### hammered when they crawl in the house". That's about the best you can do for a cockroach PR campaign.

I really dont get why they revolt so many people. So many other bugs are just as dirty and eat similar crap. Its a bug, shoo it out or bug spray it... Dont jump on top of the kitchen table screaming, like my wife does...

Yeah sure a few in the house over summer, no biggie, its MUKADE that I watch far those SOBs bite first & never ask any questions, have been bit by lots of tiny ones, thankfully none of the big suckers has got me otherwise I would be do shots of scotch for the pain while the mrs drives me to the hospital!

And yeah tons of them outside, rustle a few leaves under a tree & watch tons of them scurry about, love nature!!!

One of the only insects we just seem to cant get rid off. Cockroaches and mosquitoes are the only 2 species I would like extinct. They serve no purpose at all.

I do agree that roaches get a bad rap. Most of them don't bite but people panic when seeing one as if a monster has entered their living room. They are dirty and dwell in pipes I guess if you fear a little bacteria.

@papig....

Roaches dont really have a purpose but mosquitoes carry diseases helping to cull off animals, which is a vital if not scary part of nature.

Our has had roaches when we first moved in, after a good few tried i figured out how to get rid of them for good and that was 3 yrs ago.

wait till its summer and your going away for at least a few days. Tighten all taps and bleach bathrooms sinks and toilet, set of a few cockroach bomb at the same time spray a few can for the cheap ant roach spray under fridges behind sofas etc.

Come back to cockroach free home, and to be on the same side go to a daiso and buy a few packs of those 100 yen sticky traps and put them around the place and change every week until you find you have no left.

Horrid things.

If you step on people in this life, you're going to come back as a cockroach.

Six years in my central Tokyo apartment, and I've seen a grand total of three roaches--all of them "outside" roaches. Growing up in Hawaii, of course, they were everywhere, and seemingly indestructible. Spray 'em with roach killer and they'd thank you for the shower.

'and they are related to lobsters

Indeed they are! Not many people savoring their lobster tails and cocktail shrimp are aware of that fact...'

I've tried cockroach. I've tasted worse.

I am, but I just make a conscious effort to not think about it when I'm eating lobster :)

And if I could please ask, stop reminding me!

Cockroaches?

I swear houseflies are the worse ever disgusting insect species.

I am quite sure that this will appeal to the folks here in Japan that are into beetles and other species like this, otherwise I would suggest getting a large can of bug killer!

For every cockroach you see there are 20 more hiding in cracks and underneath things, waiting for you to fall asleep.
