Where are the bureaucrats and regulators? This needs to be regulated!! Oh, they are in the restaurant?
albaleo
Thank god for that. It seems there are some benefits of being over 60.
Penske Nievko
I say more power to them.
rainyday
Just kind of a spiteful, mean thing to do to overweight people. As if they don't get enough of that already. I guess they are another of the many groups in Japan who have no legal recourse against this type of discrimination.
Ali Khan
Restaurant? please do not dragged me to this restaurant, i would rather happy to be hungry. no no please come in this is the restaurant of the stone age, people have no clothes.
Food is very noble it has universal rules and respect and every one knows that.
Speed
Î wouldn't have any problems getting in since I have a hot body but I don't want to pay 80,000 yen to have muscle bound men in g-strings serving me food.
OssanAmerica
Sounds to me like Gay discrimination against fat, overweight, young, old and tattooed people. How did anything like this ever get off the ground In London and Melbourne?
sensei258
Why the hell would anybody pay that much just to see nearly-naked muscle guys?
Bradley Fried
Somehow I don't think anyone will feel left out. Doesn't sound like an appealing experience to me. More like going to the doctor than dining out.
Alistair Carnell
A silly fad, will probably be full of hipsters and pervs.
nath
The good thing about places like this is that it keeps the perverted idiots away from regular restaurants.
nath
I was interested in this until I read this:
But then I realized that I had no interest in going anyways after reading this:
I'm not going to fork out 8man to see a bunch of half-naked dudes.
thepersoniamnow
What's this now? I have to overpay to...
See and be served by men in underwear. (No homo) Be humiliated by having to wear paper underpants. Pay in advance and be pre warned that there will not be a refund. Be ordered not to speak to others around me
And to add a final Japanese touch they say no tatts. The locations in other countries do allow tattoos. Perhaps ban foreigners as to not scare or inconvenience the eyes of others?
Wc626
. . . and some two-bit bar owner gets sued because some of his patrons were dancing. Amazing. Simply Amazing.
Agree. Where are they? Or have they already been greased several million yen? Worse, they'll be making reservations there-
nath
Oh I assure you we also go to regular restaurants.
What are you basing this question on? What is the assumption you are making that leads to the question?
randomnator
I'd go if I weren't 15kgs outside the norm for my height. Sounds like a good giggle. No tattoos? that isn't going to draw in the hipsters.
goldorak
Probably a good place for gay foodies and hens night, apart from that...
pass
nath
I just realized, if you need to be within 15kg of the average weight for your height, this being Japan, there is a good chance I'd be over that, as Japanese guys are pretty slender (making for a low average weight), and I'm quite muscular (likely putting me 15kg above the Japanese average).
rocketpanda
Aren't there regulations about turning away customers based on age and weight. Most businesses can refuse customers if they are rude or aggressive but weight and age, really!
Also Japan needs to step into the current century still going on with that silly tattoo rule. "Oh he has a tatto, he must be a bad person and a gangster"
smithinjapan
If they're very muscular there is a good chance they'll be over their BMI, which is not the ideal measurement anyway. In those cases I doubt they'll even bother to pull out the scales, though. Sounds like a silly place to go to begin with.
roosterman77
@rocketpanda. I think you misunderstand the tattoo policy. Japanese with tattoos are considered gangsters; many others are just Paul Ankas...; )
bones
Why are there no NAKED waitresses in G Strings serving food? Is this a Gay restaurant? Anyway for $750 I can buy round trip tickets to another country , buy several meals, souvenirs and get ton look at scantily clad women for free.
stormcrow
Do these kinds of restaurants use disposable seat covers?

I thought sensual dancing was prohibited in restaurants...
Nippori Nick
Heck of a lot easier just to go to a nudist/clothing optional resort and eat and drink there. Of course, not many in Japan, but lots in other parts of the world. Either that or hit a clothing optional beach with a picnic hamper.
At least in those places people are not judgmental on what you look like, and y es, I am speaking from many years of experience.
Kobe White Bar Owner
Im not overweight but im one hairy guy. It would be interesting to see the staff reaction to it ;o)
Kabukilover
The restaurant does what Japanese institutions do best: discriminate against people. I am sure the food is not great.
wontond
So basically, they're saying I'm not invited to their extremely gay, superficial, and ridiculously expensive dinner party. Really, I'm OK with that.
Blattamexiguus
Overpriced sausages.
gokai_wo_maneku
Totally gay gokai completely missed how gay this restaurant sounds. Is it in Shinjuku Ni-Chome (the gay town)? Also, won't they get in trouble for age discrimination? And paper underware? How tacky!!! No, it can't be gay.
nath
Some of us would prefer to go to naked places that are judgemental.
I know I'm going to get a lot of downvotes for this comment, as it is entirely superficial, but in a case like this, I'm entirely fine with being superficial.
clueless
For a 51 year old I aint in bad shape but I would definitely fail the 15kg over rule.
In shape or not, I would never in a million years go to this restaurant. (Alistair Carnell is spot on btw)
What is the point of it all?
Paper underwear...give me a break!
clamenza
Strangerland, Sweetie. Daddy needs to go out for a while. Put down that phone because its nappy time....
Moderator: You and strangerland can have 24 hours off from posting.
Phil Smy
This restaurant - of course - has nothing to do with the ones in London or Melbourne. They simply have co-opted the idea. The one in London - The Bunyadi - has female waitresses and a fixed price menu of 5 courses costs around 1万¥. I'm not totally clear on who the market is for this one in Japan... is it more of a Gay club that doesn't want to advertise itself as such? For that money me thinks there's a lot more going on than dinner.
clamenza
Strangerland, Sweetie. Thats it. Remember what happened last time Mr. man didn't get his nappy-nap? He got all tired and cranky and cried all afternoon. Didn't he?
Look at me.
Didn't he?
Yes, thats right. He did. Thats a good boy. Now upstairs you go..
clamenza
Gets you EVERY TIME! I love it! I also love that even the mods were laughing the last time I did this and egged me on! You mysteriously stopped posting!!
Now Sweetie, close those eyes.....
FourIce
Is this a gay restaurant?
Christopher Glen
This is for the London establishment. It seems its Tokyo counterpart is making its own rules up http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/news/the-bunyadi-london-s-only-naked-restaurant-receives-first-reviews-ahead-of-public-opening-a7071336.html
bullfighter
Click bait.
WordStar
The proprietor needs to read today's Kuchikomi.
Auria Atama
How about the women want to enter the restaurant? Is it included in the rule as well? I don't understand, what they will do in the restaurant, just eat the foods, watching the dance?
Tom Turek
A bit daft when you consider most Japanese food has added sugar. (Get fat here, but don't come back). The 50% fructose part of that sugar is converted into body fat by the liver in less than an hour. It doesn't follow the energy pattern of digested carbs. But then again, the Japanese follow the idiotic dictates of the US National Institute of Health, and falsely claim sugar is merely extra energy, lacking in nutrients. 77 harmful effects of sugar have been documented, starting with white blood cell activity decreasing and triglycerides rising within 20 minutes. Accurate data on health is from the tthairsolutions dot com site in their 11 new Optimum Health Guides.
vlutalo
This is another MacDonald's vs Mo's Burger experience; trying something from the west in a Japanese style, always an oxymoron. Examples, teaching English in Japanese ( Public Schools), the American Restaurant at Minato Mirai in Yokohama ( very expensive yet the worst American food you can ever get), etc.
Aly Rustom
This is not a restaurant. It is a male strip joint that serves food masquerading as a restaurant. It is also an establishment that discriminates against people who have tatoos, are overweight, and are above a certain age.
Just more proof that this country is nowhere NEAR civilized.
Christopher Glen
Here's hoping this business never gets off the ground.
Himajin
Tempest in a teapot.
Citizen2012
Sounds like a blatant case of a business doing discrimination on minorities, probably next will the your skin color, I guess it must be legal under Japanese laws otherwise that place won't open. Still, another example how the Japanese govt puts priority on economic development, rather than valuing human life.
commanteer
"not overweight but im one hairy guy. It would be interesting"
In my experience, you will get petted a lot, like a cute dog.
Wc626
Yeah, I can see that happening. If they allowed Black men in that establishment . . . . most other Japanese men will be going thru life NOT feeling like a real man.
Aly Rustom
I'm on my knees praying it doesn't.
Discrimination is legal and socially acceptable in Japan.
My friend, its who they are as people. Zero value for human life.
My experience too.
HonestDictator
"Naked" restaurant huh? I'm sorry but that sounds like a health department problem if I've ever heard one. But then again, it's Japan and they probably aren't as good with their laws as they could be. The seats need a very hard deep scrub with barely protected buttocks placed upon them.
XZIEINI
Website is cringeworthy
CGB Spender
So it's a restaurant for wealthy, bored housewife posses and wealthy gay men? Thanks but I pass!
Kobe White Bar Owner
Here in Kobe there is a "macho" bar where the "macho" men wear very little, ironically its called Queen! Think it all get confused here as there is little sense of what it means to be male, other than a salary man that is.
Jonathan Prin
Strange definition of naked. If they do porn, they won't be successful. And totally discriminatory. 90% of Americans to be rejected, at least.
If it was a club in my country, it could state and implement its own rules. But here, if it is supposed to be a restaurant open to public, how come they reject you just by watching your body. Human rights again despised as always.
I want naked girls for a 5 k yens menu anyway. And that I can discuss with.
MsDelicious
Butt, butt, butt women's body part (Vagina) art is fined?
lostrune2
Oh, so we're too young! lol
(Would've been more popular in Japan)
Brian Wheway
OK lets looks at this restaurant in London, "No over weight people", quite a lot of the UK residents are over weight! no tattoos,a very high number of woman and man have some sort of tattoo, age bracket, and expensive, there is only going to be a select few that could afford these prices on a regular basis. well the restaurant will be open for about a month before it shuts.
Jimizo
"Just more proof that this country is nowhere NEAR civilized"
It's pretty tacky but I've seen a lot worse in countries I'd regard as civilised. The less civilised countries would ban this.
I'm glad Japan is on the civilised side.
Mocheake
Hopefully, all the J-guys who constantly stare at me (a man) can go there and stare to their heart's content and I can ride public transportation in peace.
kyushubill
Jeez, I'd hate to be the mop up person in this place. They better be paid FAR above minimum wage.
m6bob
With my non-tattooed, chiselled, hairless body and 1.8m height I would be a shoo-in if I make a reservation and show up. But I'm not interested as I can't afford to eat there.
nath
I guess an IQ test would be out of the question - they'd have no customers.
WilliB
What is the point of this? Why would anybody want to go there?
MokiDugway
This is really the stupidest restaurant ever devised.
Dukeleto
"Where are the bureaucrats and regulators? This needs to be regulated!! Oh, they are in the restaurant?"
And using tax payers money to pay for it no doubt. The Tokyo Major must be cursing as he will have to cough up from his own pocket if he wants to go.
Tamarama
I don't eat nude at home, so I've got absolutely no interest doing it in public. Especially not paying a King's Ransom for the privilege.
DannytheGaijin
This doesn't sound very sanitary at all.
presto345
Unsanitary and unsavory.
Maybe the underwear provided is like the incontinence material for the elderly. High absorbancy.
coskuri
ROFL. So you are supposed to send money on a cheap website that seems designed by a tacky obachan... Er, it's for real or just an hoax ?
ThePBot
It ain't about weight, it's about physique.....isn't that a form of discrimination? I'm pretty sure a good amount of their customers and staff know what that is.
mistie710
Todgers and fannies and tits... oh my!
Meh.
Serrano
"Tattooed customers are barred from entry."
So, no fatties or ugly tats! Yippie! I mean, why does this not surprise me? lol
Homotenashi
Makes hooters look like an incredible bargain
Dukeleto
Hahahahaa nobody will willingly sit next to me unless the train is absolutely packed or even look at me let alone stare at me (male or female). You are talking about Japanese public transport right?
Ampas
What ridiculous prices, can't see this lasting.
gelendestrasse
Why would you pay $750 to wear paper underwear?
DaDude
Why would I go to a restaurant where the waiters are g-string clad men? Is this a joint for women? I never went to Chippendale or Thunder from Down Under back in the U.S., why would I go now?
nath
This is what eats me up! If I had the funds I have several ideas for an eatery.... something like "Gerd friendly foods". And I read about people who do have money to invest into their own dreams... and they **** it away on something like this! This is doomed! As doomed as an "all ages anime club"! Doomed before it even began!
Nessie
There's probably a legal dodge for "clubs", hence the pre-registration.
Hiro S Nobumasa
With this kind of age limit Abe must be grinnin and Aso frownin!
Citizen2012
Why would somebody be "glad" for living in a country allowing physical discrimination on customers ?
kurisupisu
If you don't shape up then you're not in!
No Ginger
Er, if you have to wear paper undies it isn't a "naked" restaurant.
lostrune2
Should start a rival restaurant where patrons have to be less than 18 and see how that goes
Jumin Rhee
Firstly, one can go to real naked places like baths and onsens where there is no age ot weight restrictions (just tattoos).
Secondly, shouldn't the minimum age be 20 in Japan as that is the age of majority? All the perps looking at under 20s (18-19) is like a law&order svu special.
englisc aspyrgend
I agree the organisers seem to have missed the original idea. Having looked at Bunyadi, the London restaurant it seems a tad more civilised, about 7.5 times cheaper and has a clothed area though there is no requirement to be naked as a robe is provided and taking it off in your screened table area is not mandatory. No stipulations regarding size or skin decorations! Still wont be going to it as it is still a faddy joint.
Leila26
For me, dining and nudity just don't go together that well. And paper underwear? Sounds very uncomfortable.
lm25cl
80,000 yen saved up? - Yup!..Tick Reservation to do - no prob, online
Now, weight check...................Ooooopssss!!
My 5ft 7inches, 69kg Polynesian genetic composition returns a 23.88 BMI on online BMI calculator.
The Family Elders are considering paddling over and dragging my sorry rear-end back to the land of the forefathers, and putting me under house arrest ............too lanky, too skinny, very poor in health and finances, do not have the means to feed myself. Simply put, my physical body's outlook is an insult to my ancestors. The New Zealand BMI calculator http://bmicalculatornz.com/ returns "Congratulations! You appear to have an optimal amount of body fat. Our bodies use fat to maintain healthy emotional, mental and physical processing"
The Japanese BMI Calculator states that I am obese. http://bmicalc.org/japanese-bmi-calculator "Your BMI is 23.9, indicating your weight is in the Overweight category for adults of your height"(Sigh) I concede. I will never be granted entry.
Final evaluations & silver linings:
Miss out on the dining service by half-naked muscular men? Nah! Grew up with half-naked muscular cousins who climb coconut trees and go spear fishing almost daily for fun - he he Miss out on the meal? Nah! Can get great service and top of the range meals served around town -- for much much cheaper! Miss out on the show? Nah! Cook Islands Boys dance to the rhythm of the island drums half naked all the time ......... and the tatoos are everywhere -- on the thighs, glutes, chests, back and so on. (drooling) _ Okane: Will spend the 80,000 yen on something else - no problem there. In summary, Good Luck to the proprietor(s); and to those who make the cut - many blessings!.
noypikantoku
it's an 80,000 yen worth Orgy for wealthy people , not my world....
Michael Martin
They'd get arrested if they tried this in London. Luckily I escaped the UK and now live in Civilisation. London isn't even allowed "body shaming" (normal people) in adverts on the tube, any more. You'd think in a country with free medical care they would be pushing good health as a duty.
RealCDN
If one needs to eat naked, stay home or go deep into the forest. This is clearly for the abnormal.
noypikantoku
I don't get what rich people think sometimes, Why not just get a room and organized an orgy? a group sex with abercombie kinda male models. This Naked restaurant idea is kinda dumb.
Giveme_abreak
That establishment will be close in no time. Expensive and ridiculous idea!
