Will the authorities release an accounting for the total specific financial losses? I imagine they're immense, given that the airport's cargo services are still seriously disrupted and passenger traffic remains down 50 percent.
There ought to be a parliamentary inquiry over KIX's vulnerability and its prolonged state of indebtedness, among other problems.
Do the hustle
Good job! Now, it’s safe - until next time. They have no plans to upgrade anything to ensure it doesn’t happen again. The bridge pylons need protective barriers around them. Runways need a sea wall to protect them from high waves. The runways also need a better drainage system. And, the back up electrical system needs to be waterproofed. Without these upgrades it’s just gonna happen again and again every time there is a strong typhoon.
Ganbare Japan!
@ Jeff Lee : I usually agree with you. But you are wrong here. Where else in the world will you see a major International Airport back in business after 17 days, after an unprecedented natural disaster? Thats right nowhere. Amazing 24/7 around the clock work to get KIX back to 2nd best airport (after Haneda).

That's not his point... (sight).
