Corruption in a Japanese company?! That can’t be given how we hear ad nauseum how polite and considerate Japanese people are.
The utility's president, Shigeki Iwane, has said he will resign on the day of the panel's report.
Why not step down now? Votive already decided to step down. Gotta collect those last couple of paychecks. Perhaps you need another month of time-in-service to hit that retirement payout just right.

If reports from TV are to be believed, this goes back at least a generation!

re: article: 20 people including Yagi received a total of 318.45 million yen ($2.9 million) worth of gifts from Eiji Moriyama, the late deputy mayor of Takahama town in Fukui Prefecture, central Japan, over several decades.
Stepping down is one thing but that still doesn't recover the 318.45 million Yen returned back to Takahama town. I would wager that some nice homes and furnishings were procured, as well automobiles, tuition etc. How does one recover that. Stepping down doesn't but it is a start. Stepping down only quantifies that white collar crime pays with minimal punishment, if that is the case then more people should do it. One way to get ahead that many who are not part of the privileged have done for many years.

Nothing new. This action had been going on not only in kansai.

Small town corruption but with big money!
