One of these days Mr. Kobayashi will explode, like that guy in Monty Python's "Meaning of Life."

I´ll never understand the attraction of these eating contests. These guys are not hungry, and they don´t enjoy the taste of the food. And the thought that all this wasted gunk has to come out at the other end... why in the world do some people find this interesting?

Useless but fun. Everybody wants to excel in something.

Japan and the USA should ban these kind of horrible competions! The USA alone had millions of hungry, homeless people suffering night and day, Japan too has people on the streets. These idiots go and waste so much food to promote what?? I wonder if we started BOYCOTTING PIZZA HUT, they might understand how horrible these shamless eating competions really are. How about sending these pizzas to Africa?? How many people can we feed, if we open our hearts and wallets just a bit??

Jaws my rear end ha ha ha! Congrats to Kobayashi.

"The crust was very chewy"

Duh! It was a Pizza Hut pizza! ( I just had one last week topped with BBQ chicken! And 1000 yen off! Yum! )

Heh, good one. I generally prefer Papa Johns. Though depending where I'm at when I feel like Pizza, I'll get Pizza Hut.

Kobayashi, you are so talented. Eating lots of food, very fast, WOW...beats a university education.

Ha ha ;)... no, I'd prefer to keep my current lower paid job rather than make a complete pig of myself by eating disgusting junk food. Kobayashi's novelty will eventually wear off. Don't know her name, but there is also his female equivalent on Japanese TV who is equally tacky - but much prettier!

They must get some sort of financial compensation, not just a free lunch.

Kobayashi is one lean mean Japanese eating machine.....But I think my wife could out eat him hands down. She is a 165cm tall, 50kg eating machine! I'm 183cm tall and weigh 105kg and can not eat more than her.... She is a lean mean Japanese eating machine that could take him down in a non timed eating contest....LOL

Sushi is her specialty.....LOL

I would rather eat my own fingers than touch Pizza-La, Pizza Hut, Doominoes pizza and any other fast food pizza joints.....

I would rather eat either a New York or Chicago style pizza.

When I arrived in Japan I believed that my pizza eating days were done. Well that was until I discovered Picolini's pizzeria! Now I enjoy 2 medium size pepperoni, mushroom, and garlic pizzas when ever I can.

BTW a medium pizza here is about the size of a personal....Tiny little things.....First time I had a med pizza I thought they made a mistake and gave me the childrens size....LOL

Kobayashi kun, you are my hero!! What with hunger issues never ending around the world and unemployed people looking to where they can possibly get the next meal from for their family......and yet morons still organise these 'gorge yourself like a pig contests' so untalented people like yourself can scoff down food you don't even need in record time. Take a bow man!!! You are so good!!!!! I just hope one day one of you goofballs choke as you gorge.....that would make a good read!!!!

Must be a quiet news day if this is the 5th most important national news story in Japan. I take it North Korea aren't doing anything today?

** if i ate 59 pizza's in 10mins, i would throw up!

"Tied in first place at 59 hot dogs, Kobayashi came close runner-up after a 5 hot dog eat-off." but on here it says he won? >.< im confused lol

Jesssssicaa, that's 5 and 3/4 pizza's in 6 minutes, not 59. Keep in mind that they are 1 pound each, that's 5.75 pounds of pizza or almost 1lb/min. He did eat 59 hot dogs in 10 minutes though.

As for your 3rd post...they tied at 59 hot dogs in ten minutes, so they had another go at eating 5 more. It seems that Chestnut was able to choke down 5 dogs slightly before Kobayashi. Hope that helps.
