Far cry from the war mongering propaganda emanating from Chinese state controlled media.

Many Chinese people I met were good people. They reared deserted Japanese chlldren in Manchuria after the war. Nobody wants their economies get worse in Japan as well as China by this issue. The trouble happened "out of blue" for me. I wish politicians on both sides will not lead the countries in wrong way.

Sad that "peace" and "cooperation" and "coexistence" can exist among the common people of both countries, but when governments or more specifically in the case of China, those in power, use "emotional" issues to "use" the population for their own purposes leading to conflicts that "destroy" such relationships. Sad too is that those common people "used" and "taken advantage" by those with power the ones who ultimately "suffer".

But, the fact is "action speaks louder than words" when it comes to international relations. The die was cast by China and the entire world is confronted by question of how to respond rationally to those emotionally heated intimations.

Still it is only 70 years following WWII and China's internal struggle still continues after millions of loves were lost in the revolution to gain control over what is China today. Sad that Japan is used as a "target" to misdirect the internal discontent and to gain international recognition of Chinese rise to power other than economically.

No celebrations equals "low-key"?

Maybe the Very old generation in China had their Hate towards Japan. But after 70 years. How pity is their government.

Let's hope the next 40 are better than the last..!

but the row flared in August after pro-China activists landed on one of them.

Clearly the whole crazy issue began with mr. Ishihara got some donations to try to purchase the islets before JULY and that caused pro-China activists' landing! Many times news here blame to others for the case, Isn't it a kind of brainwash to readers?

China will continue beating drums provoking Japan until Japan sends SDF to Senkaku. They are doing this to justify their position to start a war against Japan.

Please, please do not get emotionally hyjacked. I know it is hard to do, but If you do, you are fulfilling their objectives.. More you get excited, about it, more they will try harder.

First, a slap in the face.

If the other side turns his head, laugh at his weakness and reward him with a few more punches.

If the other side turns red, sneer at his ill manner and calmly calmly follow up with a few more punches, with all warned it was due to barbarism and conspiracy by the other side.

Re: Japan's past between Meiji reform and 1945.

Just as China should be able to draw a red line of her behavior, Japan should be capable of doing it on her own. Japan started the conflict with confidence. Is she saying now she can't handle it after all?

Whether SDF is going to the disputed islands or not, it is Japan''s choice. Had China wanted a war, they could have started already. In 2010 they could have sent in their patrol boats, or even Navy, if they were that aggressive. So far even those 1000 fishing boats are nowhere near the islands. They quietly took the ridicule from all corners and have you wondered why? The official Chinese propaganda almost always finishes with the demand of Japan to return to the negotiation table, which of course has never shown in Japanese media.

Now it is this LOW-KEY event. Why would they bother at all if they want a war? Did Japan thank Americans for opening her eyes to the modern world before bombing Pearl harbor?:-)

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The liberal Asahi Shimbun said “ignorance” and “unappreciation” about the regimes and culture of each other have contributed to deteriorating relations.

Sure, Oyaji Ishihara picked the precise wrong moment to pull that "buy the islands" stunt. China is undergoing a change in leadership, and as the new regime comes in China has to prove that it is strong and cannot be taken advantage of.

Hard to believe that Ishihara didn't know this, since it's been in the friggin' news for A YEAR. Did he really think America would come roarin' into battle for this?

China-Japan trade has been growing by leaps and bounds and that makes great economic sense for both nations. Why would Japan as a nation want to stop that? The fact that Tokyo Metro Official, a well known right wing militarist, stirred up the issue to gain political clout should raise a flag to the majority of people of Japan. Do Japan people want to see the revival of Imperial Militarism? Does U.S. want to see Japan moving in that direction? Do Korea and Southeast Asian countries want to see that?

Both China and Japan has decided to celebrate it in Taipae and later come to Shibuya for a drink with young Chinese girls...

The reason China coculd not send the troops is just because of the people who write the truths on the blogs like this and the media exposes the wrong doings of China. China is always aggressive to weak countries ex; They send troops to Tibet to occupy , They occupied 30% Kashmir, They took many Islands of Philippines. All the time they send Navy and military in advance... Now they want to claim all the Islands in the east China sea..... All these is happened in the last 50 years and happening now. Japan decided not to invade any country and they are not doing it in any form. KEEPING THE WORDS. But China is speaking one thing and acting different... See the difference... Who the world can trust... All people in the except Chinese people who are in the internet is against China now. That is why they stopped sending the troops to Senkaku islands..

The Chinese right wing paid workers were landing the Islands for the last 10 years. That is much before the Ishihara`s purchase. And now come to the point. Why china did not offer a bigger price to buy the Islands if it was free property forsale? China has money.... If not they should use some of the aid money they have received from Japan. That totals over a TRILLION USD... and the current value is 3 Trillions...

If they think these islands are theirs, why should they pay? Are we just trying to match pocket size here?

"If not they should use some of the aid money they have received from Japan. That totals over a TRILLION USD... and the current value is 3 Trillions..."

Should we really go take a closer look at history since you are so fond of it? How about 1895, the year Japan claimed the islands? You want to know how much Japan got from China? About two to three times of Japan's annual GDP at the time. Maybe you could scale that money up to today's value before you showcase another sneer for China not coughing up more money for islands thought to be theirs to begin with.

China gave up her right to ask reparation after WWII, I have yet to see any Japanese showing any sign of appreciation of that. It is great to see all those loans, which always coupled with advancing Japan's interests, valued more than that reparation.

No apologies, only vague regrets. No reparation, but really can't you see we have done more for you. All you could have done is to open your wallet, if only to acknowledge our ownership of the islands and be told off again.

Bravo, Japan.

This is unfortunately what the majority of average Chinese & Koreans think the J Govt has been trying to avoid the 'embarrassment' by not telling the younger Japanese. I came across some Koreans / Chinese born in the 70's & 80's -- they are friendly towards Japanese people but keep remembering the part of history especially when innocent Japanese of their age have been selectively educated on the chapter. Hence, if these young neighbors have been 'brain washed', the Japanese counterparts have also been selectively 'brain washed'. When the German troops joined hand in hand military parade along side with the French soldiers on July 14 on the Champs élysées. Dream like this could hardly take place in the near future, unless...

What is point in keeping SDF at this size? The answer is WHY CHINA made 3000 nukes and attacking missiles a million people army. Shouting ONLY FOR SELF DEFENCE.. The Chinese high school education.."

SDF was built to deter Chinese nukes? Good, time to tell the Americans.

Action and words. China also says they would never use the nukes first. Why don't you take their words and shrink your SDF accordingly? Oh, I forgot only Japan's words count.

All readers back on topic please. The topic is the 40th anniversary of Japan-China relations.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't understand this celebration at all. What is there to celebrate about the Japan-China relationship? Both of your people hate each other. You Japanese have never respected the Chinese. Most of you refer to them as inferior. The Chinese considered most of you as offspring of rapists and war mongers and that you are a bunch of thieves and wolves hiding in sheep's skin ( I heard this description directly from a Chinese diplomat in a mixer). So what celebrations? China used you to modernize themselves. You used China to alleviate your ridiculous inflation and need for raw materials to support your labor crunch and exports.

The best description of that is business-partners. You were just business partners. What is there to celebrate? The US did business with the Nazi before WWII. That doesn't make us friends. We don't celebrate our relationships.

Now that the type of business partnership is coming to an end for you two. You can continue to live in a dream that you think you are still the boss of Asia ( it was never about you, it was about us, the USofA), or you can start business somewhere else, like in the US for example. Its time for you to pay your dues for the years that we have supported and protected you. First you must retract that silly sale of the islands. Second, apologize for whateverthehellyoupeopledid, and third, just act like this is all about some crazy old fools who couldn't get it up at night so he created some fuzz over his personal agendas and call it a day. Nobody need to go to war over something so stupid. And if you don't back down, and it seems like the Chinese is going all out on this. Somebody is going to get a hurtin', you feel me?

This problem between China and Japan did not start with "Ishihara" who first publicized his intent to buy the islands in April 2012 or with the Japanese Government's purchase of the islands to pre-empt Ishihara from buiding on them. A act designed to placate Chinese claims. Much to Japan's srprise China used the purchase to escalate, rather than stabilize the issue. China first made a claim in 1970. Activists have been sailing to the Senkakus since 1996. If there is any one "cause" for hte current situation it is entirely on he lap of the CCP government that istituted Japan-hating "Patriotic Education" (brainwashjing) in their school system and the CCPs continued use of anti-Japan sentiment as a foreign policy tool. Unfortunately the next 40 years of Sino-Japanese relations are not going to be any better unless China is prepared to abandon this approach.

Indeed, why blame Ishihara? Blame CCP.

If you care to look any deeper, maybe you would even find all those activists from Hongkong and Taiwan were/are Chinese CCP members. They've got to be.:-) Let's not ask why ROC also claims these islands and objected to the US before these islands were transferred to Japan.

Maehara just openly said China is a country that twists and fabricates history. Obviously Japan has never done that. I wish he had supported his claim by discrediting the documents put forth by China on their ownership of the islands up to 1895. Since Japan has insisted they discovered the island first, China's got to be wrong. This should be the most relevant and the easiest piece to work on. If Maehara can't, I am sure you can fill the slot.:-)

I am waiting.

I like Nikkei BUSINESS daily's editorial "Japan and China must build good relationships for their people. It is their joint duty to the world,” Don't worry, their people are doing all kinds of business together, including making Japanese+Chinese babies, as long as the Americans are not in their way. China and Japan already tied their knot, arguing is normal, not a divorce any time soon though.

40 years ago, The Great Chairman Mao (after the meeting with Prime Minister TANAKA in TOKYO), went to Osaka Headquarters of Matsushita Denki (National/Panasonic) factory to meet the great chairman Matsushita and tell personally that he would like Panasonic to build plants and China and show China the modern way of appliance manufacturing. "YOU ARE VERY MUCH WELCOME IN CHINA". Matsushita said to MAO, with great effort and full-coorperation, we will start building factory in China as before this year (1972) end.

40 Years later (2012), PANASONIC FACTORY in China was engulf in flame, initiated and purposely done by MOB CHINESE carrying MAO's placards, pictures and several banners with MAO's name on it.

Indeed, these thugs should be chased down and brought to justice.

They did it under the pretense that they were venting their anger toward Japan's betrayal of agreement reached 40 years ago to put the islands aside for greater good. Ends don't necessarily justify the means.

Lots of people in China are certainly upset, while Japan keeps saying there has never been any kind of understanding between the two countries. There is no dispute. Who is evading the truth?

Damaged factories may be rebuilt, but it seems those Mao memorabilia could not have avoided the fate to trash bins anyway.
