And Abe still wants to reopen the nuclear power stations?

@Inshikoku: It is a bit scarier than a nuclear power station... It is the Rokkasho Nuclear Fuel Reprocessing Facility and 'others'.

Yes, scarier! Thanks YongYang!

An earthquake in LA produces less collapsed buildings than the same strength quake here in Japan.

Rubbish, the 94 quake in LA was a 6.7 and they had 20 billion in damage. 57 deaths, 5000 injured.

I've been in stronger ones here that had no damage beyond supermarket restocking.

There is a nuclear power station up there near the Pacific coast.

I bet some people in government and in national energy authorities were not telling anyone about what was happening in their pants in the early stages of the earthquake reports.

If something disastrous had happened, that would have been a nice wake-up call for the current administration in Tokyo, and the consensus view of the conservative news media establishment.

But thankfully nothing disastrous did happen and hopefully those people's pants are still clean.

Sorry Pandabelle, you seem to have read my comment mistakenly: yes, we get earthquakes like this in Japan, not all the time, not always in the vicinity of nuclear fuel reprocessing facilities, not all over Japan but recently frequently off Tohoku, and often more than 6.

I get the same reports you and others get. So do the guys in the government and national energy authorities. I was not speculating about the nuclear fuel reprocessing facilities - that is not my job. Rather it is the job of the people in government and those national energy authorities.

This summer, when people in government are sweaty anyway and should change their pants more often than average like most people, rather I was speculating about the reaction in their pants after the recent earthquake off eastern Aomori Prefecture.

I wondered if suddenly those people were so worried that they needed to change their pants even more often suddenly, despite summer, due to the otherwise unforseen relatively strong earthquake.

If they did not need to change their pants earlier today, then I believe they should have.

And that was a very shallow quake (18km) directly under the area affected. This was not shallow (50km) and offshore. Absolutely no relation.

Well, I get a little better than most due to my job, but...

I wondered if suddenly those people were so worried that they needed to change their pants even more often suddenly, despite summer, due to the otherwise unforseen relatively strong earthquake.

I know exactly what you were saying. What exactly about this quake do you think was so pants-soiling bad? It's a M6/Shindo lower 5, something we have seen hundreds of times in the past few years. Nothing special, nothing special at all.

Now. Wait a second no what the magnitude is. We will have, damages and deaths. We live on a living planet that will move whenever she want. to move. and folks who live. Earthquakes zones.need to be awear of your areas If people who are

Why? We get earthquakes of this intensity all the time in Japan. Facilities are designed to withstand them.
