Here is something to think about, in Mexico same day almost same time we had a hearthquake of 6.5. Are we that connected?.....ring of fire....!

Interesting article, but that I think the prediction they're making is ridiculous. A 30% chance of something happening within 30 years is hedging their bets to the extreme, they're in a no-lose situation. They actually have no idea when and where the next big one will be, and make predictions like this to make themselves look worthy of more funding. There is no other way of predicting earthquakes currently than looking at history, and that is as accessible to anyone as it is to so called experts, if not more so because these "experts" didn't consider history before about 1900 when predicting earthquakes until recently, because "there were no records". How ludicrous...

I was afraid of tsunami since a place I live is near this area. In addition the place where I live is island. Therefore if tsunami hit the island, it would be a huge disaster for us. I was relieved that there is no tsunami warnings and no damage of this earthquake.

Recall a great line from a Book.
Oh,so true.

@BlueWitch: Not only in the greater Tokyo area, but most (if not all of Japan) prefectures have their own great earthquake cycle. The only problem here is, no one can exactly say when or where the next big earthquake in Japan will be. There are some disaster drills being conducted by local governments, some of which even include a possible Mt. Fuji eruption in their scenarios.
Fukushima triple disaster problems are still fresh, and we see some governments preparing their own districts for such possibilities (like the 5-meter concrete wall being set up for a power plant somewhere), and even announcing that they have made emergency procedures for such disasters ... but when the time comes, will they be enough?

3.11 earthquake brought a huge tsunami that had killed most of victims of the disaster, not so much people died by collapse. in japan, almost all buildings have nuff strenght and 5.8 magnitude cant kill people without tsunami or file.

According to Asahi Shimbun last month, 9M class earthquake would occur 30% possibility within 30 years along the coast of Minamisanriku through Boso of Chiba.

Actually, the chances of a major quake hitting the Tokyo area within the next decade is very high. This is a statistic that expert seismiologists have predicted, though I do not have a reliable link on hand.
This is also the reason why Tokyo has been improving its earthquake reaction measures for the last decade. Tokyo is probably the most prepared city on the planet to receive an earthquake. Of course, depending on the magnitude, damage and loss of lives is probably inevitable, but there is reason to believe the city will survive a mega-quake.

Elbuda. This quake was so small there was nothing worth saying about it, so the conversation moved away slightly.

Am I MISSING something here?? Where in the heck does it say anything about some horrible earthquake?? That all of Tokyo and all of Kanto will be destroyed?? This is an article about some small quake, by Japanese standards, down bear Amami Ohshima, right??

It probably won't be as strong as 3/11. The effects will probably be worse though.

Thanks God they are ok in Okinawa, after all earthquakes on an island are really scary because you can't escape.

BlueWitch:
Of course he is talking about the future. And there is no doubt that such an earthquake will occur. But if it is tomorrow or in 10,000 years, nobody knows. So, without a date stemp, statements like this are pretty meaningless.
Tom DeMicke
No one can predict an earthquake no matter what they say. They can happen and any time, any magnitude, any depth. In fact, a quake happens every few minutes around the world. God bless us all!
BlueWitch
My husband told me about a quake that will be as strong as the 3/11 and will devastate Tokyo and its surrounding prefectures and that many more people will perish. Is he talking about the future? I wonder.

All over Japan and will continue to be as such.
