M5.1 quake hits Chiba Pref; no tsunami alert

How can you forecast earthquakes !?

I’m camped by the beach in central Chiba. Was watching the tsunami forecast very closely. So much for their earthquake warning predictions.

i thought they were predicting earthquakes now?

I was on the 8th floor in Tokyo. It swayed some but all is okay.

Julie Riley - I imagine your question has been answered by now but Mitaka-shi is a little west of central Tokyo and the magnitude of the earthquake was a bit lower there. Mitaka-shi is over 80km from the earthquake epicenter and there was no reported damage there. If you are concerned for a loved one they are most likely safe and sound
