JT, thank you for NOT putting any pictures this time, and I really do mean it from the bottom of my heart! I just woke up, and read about sexual minorities?? So this guy did not really have a penis?? Then to bring attention to his plight he has it cut off by surgery and makes FOOD out of it for 20,000 per customer?? Cannibalism is NOT ILLEGAL here in Japan??

12 ( +17 / -5 )

Um... wow.

Wouldn't surgically removing healthy organs go against the Hippocratic Oath?

5 ( +10 / -5 )

ew ew ew ew - what has been read cannot be unread. ew ew ew

23 ( +26 / -5 )

Sorry, that should have been 20,000 YEN per customer to eat part of this Sugiyama’s penis. And once again THANK YOU FOR NOT putting any nasty picutres my morning imagination is enough to revolt me just before breakfast!

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Sugiyama, who considers himself “asexual,” that is without gender, initially thought about eating the genitals himself,

He may or may not be "asexual", but he is certainly amoral. Totally disgusting. Just the thought of it makes me nauseous.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Totally disgusting as 'herefornow' said. btw, was he able to pay his medical bill fully? or one installement only?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

"Waiter, there's hairs in my testicle soup!"

29 ( +31 / -2 )

That's certainly something we don't read about everyday. Audacious and ballsy act.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

20,000 per plate is pretty steep for frozen. It wasnt even fresh.

11 ( +13 / -2 )

couldn't he just do charity work like everyone else?

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Even after 20 years here on the J islands, just when I thought I UNDERSTOOD the Japanese and their funny ways, SLAP of culture shock?? Not even sure what the heck to call this, but shouldn’t cannibalism be illegal?? Something is very, very wrong with a modern society that says NOTHING about cannibalism IMHO.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

how dose he pee?

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Totally sick article.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

I'm dead serious, but I was just eating a piece of pepperoni when I read this..@_@

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Grossed out before breakfast! Awesome! What are the laws on cannibalism in Japan?

But! What is wrong with these sick plicks that paid 20,000yen to eat it? I'm going back to bed. Maybe the flip side will be easier to swallow.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

As sick as it may be to chop his own stuff off and cook it...I am MORE shocked that people would PAY to eat it! They are sicker than him!!

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Elbuda MexicanoMay. 26, 2012 - 07:33AM JST Even after 20 years here on the J islands, just when I thought I UNDERSTOOD the Japanese and their funny ways, >SLAP of culture shock??

Yea, it happens all the time.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

he what?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

LOL.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Okay urm so yeah........ This has put me off my breakfast.

Just when I thought I had read anything thats possible this whatever you would like to call it has appeared.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

‘Will there be a next time? "....Must have been a very small meal.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Yes well being asexual is all well and good, but severing your right to pee while standing? Mao should have thought this through a bit more.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

He's definitely a part of a sexual minority now, he's joined the eunochs!! The last of a dying breed.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

2012, End of the World? OH there's a definite possibility with people losing their minds (and genitals) like this.

There are all kinds of cheap punch lines we could throw at this story.

That's just gross ya know. No matter how you serve it up, All these words I can't use.

Personally as a Pro-Male activist it is simply disgraceful that he would give up his manhood. Sad.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

"He is a Japanese artist" what about that 5 customers..are they Japanese..too.? Any way the 5 are practicing Cannibalism. eating Human flesh. this is seriously very dangerous..to Society. however they still did not comment on the Dish. how taste..or. how nutritious..if this continues smoothly , surely in the feature there will be some Isagaya shops pop out in famous Akihabara, Ueno, suginami wards serving human flesh..Penis.. Brest.. etc.. Consider If no laws .. soon Japanese highly respected decent society will be turn in to upside down.. "Suginami police say it was not a criminal act, and there is nothing to take action about."

2 ( +5 / -3 )

who considers himself “asexual,” that is without gender

Asexual doesn't mean without gender, it means not interested in sex of any kind.

Also, wow. I try to avoid generalizing, but of all the countries I've been to, Japanese crime is by far the weirdest. Not that this was a crime, whatever, everything was consensual... but who the heck would think to do this?

3 ( +7 / -4 )

I hope he accompanied the meal with a little mood music to create ambience. Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" springs to mind.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

@Thomas Anderson

Wouldn't surgically removing healthy organs go against the Hippocratic Oath?

You aren't in Kansas anymore. This ain't the USA or the West in general. What makes you believe that they would even know that oath? Only a single doctor I have ever taught here in Japan knew it and that was because he went to Harvard.

how dose he pee?

Was wondering the same.

cannibalism is not illegal in Japan??? WTF

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Balderdash. I see a lot of discrepancies in this article. For one thing, Mao is a woman's name. Why wasn't the event hall named? Would a doctor be willing to lose his license to remove the genitals of a healthy person? What good would the supervision of a certified cook be, since no cook, certified or not, would have had previous experience in preparing any portion of the human anatomy.

My gut feeling is that a retraction will be appearing soon that the whole story was fabricated.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Yeah I am wondering the same thing. The male genitalia serves multiple purposes including the release of urine. It doesn't make any sense that he would have the whole contraption removed. Very disturbing from all accounts.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

You aren't in Kansas anymore. This ain't the USA or the West in general. What makes you believe that they would even know that oath? Only a single doctor I have ever taught here in Japan knew it and that was because he went to Harvard.

Well I'm pretty sure that there's some sort of an international standard.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

whats most worrying about this is not that he had his genitals removed its that some people would pay to eat them, damn!! screw the medical bills, these people need a good psychiatrist.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

In an email to AFP, he confirmed the event had taken place and said it was organized to raise awareness about “sexual minorities, x-gender, asexual people.” He said he was readying to publish an official account of the day.

This raises another red flag. When reporting incredible stories, the reporter has an obligation to interview the subject face to face. Email is not an acceptable form of verification.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I'm impressed that he had the balls to do that. Oh, wait...

3 ( +5 / -2 )

All of these people are mentally disturbed - the guy who asked to have his genitalia removed, the so-called "doctor" who did it, the people who cooked it, and the idiots that ate it. This is a sick world - and it seems to be getting sicker every day.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Wow, just wow. BTW I wonder how he approached people...just say "eat me"? That's just taking it too literally, I think.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

very sick series of events and very sick people involved all around, as wolfpack says. I hope and assume a lot of Japanese people are embarrassed that this was not just allowed to happen, but that the notion was even there.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I'm shocked and grossed out!

5 ( +7 / -2 )

OK, This one just buried the needle on my weird-crap-o-meter!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I dont know whether to laugh or cry

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Absolutel;y disgusting !

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Um okay it's not a sex change operation which is not new to have done, people get that type of procedure done when they want to change their sex. So what does he have to do is business with?

Unbelievable Eating someones family jewels is past nasty it should be illegal to eat human. I can't even stomach cow tongue, pigs feet etc.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Are most asexuals born that way or is it a choice? Call me narrow-minded, but I don't think he brought attention to asexuals, but to one crazy guy, himself. Everyone who took part in the dinner were enablers. Also, I didn't know cooks had to be certified.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I love Japan!

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

The doctor indeed broke his hippocratic oath.

Even with consent, a doctor shouldn't mutilate a person.

What if someone wanted their left arm removed? Is that okay?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I would have sold my buttocks hole, Be a daily item on the menu

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm gonna be sick :(

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I don't mind asexuals. I just don't see why we need any awareness of them. Seems to me, so many are trying very hard to press their asexuality on us, when they should just shut up and mind their own business. Sexual frequency is at an extreme low in this country, according to researchers anyway. One would think that would be enough for asexuals to smile and shut the hell up.

I don't think its a violation of the Hippocratic Oath. Seems the former guy is not quite right in the head beyond being asexual. If the doctor did not do it, the former guy might have done something dangerous, like self-surgery. And while the organ might have been healthy, his feelings about the organ wasn't, and that counts.

What really bothers me though is the promotion of eating human flesh. All normal conscientous people should completely ostracize those short-sighted indulgent and barbarous morons, but this being Japan, they will probably just get notoriety and adoration, like that murdering low-life isse sagawa (name intentionally decapitalized), who should be in prison for life.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I don't believe this is true. The story and pictures part of this "art".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You know that feeling you get in your stomach when you see/imagine something and consider what it would feel like happening to you? Well, I just had a very unpleasant experience like that when I read this story. :(

1 ( +1 / -0 )

How bizarre. And here I thought Thailand had a lot of quacks.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

8\\D Bon appetit.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I dare say that is the single most revolting article I have ever read.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

And BEFORE this story the West thought Japanese eat what!?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I clicked on the link to this article, thinking it was a joke... Now, I am left with so many questions:

Leaving the moral issues aside, how does a (reportedly) 22-year-old "painter" afford this type of elective surgery? (Most of the young artists I know, struggle to pay for art supplies or the fees to rent space to exhibit their work.)

Sugiyama... initially thought about eating the genitals himself, but decided to solicit paying customers to help pay his hospital bills for the surgery.

(Eating them himself may have connected his name with "starving artist" for all time.)

Just how did he solicit the five bids? (I don't believe eBay has a category for this item...) Is there an underground market for this type of transaction?

...to cover the medical costs, in a bizarre act to raise awareness about sexual minorities.

So, Sugiyama did this to cover medical costs or to raise awareness about a social issue, which is it? One act is purely selfish; the other one is a selfless political act. It can not be both.

It feels like neither. It feels like pure self-publicity. (I think his five minutes are now up...)

There is a metaphor here... Somewhere... Along the lines of, "Cutting off the nose to spite the face"...

In any case, I fail to see how this stunt does anything to raise awareness of transgender issues in Japan. Organ donation, perhaps, but transgender issues, I think not.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The artist obviously is a bit off kilter but he's an artist. What about the people who helped and the people who "dined?"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Maybe he is gay and just trying to justify his act so his family won't be disgusted before doing transgender. If he's a real male 22 is way, way too young to abort sexual adventure. I stand corrected.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Sorry folks, but I'm convinced more than ever this story is a hoax. It originated on the France24 TV news site, but is attributed to AFP. One giveaway is that it carries no dateline. Since it's unverifiable, no other major news site has picked it up, and probably won't

http://www.france24.com/en/20120525-japanese-man-cooks-serves-own-genitals

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Any connection with the guy they found dead, with the family jewels under the bed and didn't know if he'd been murdered of if it was a DIY job? As someone mentioned, if the doctor had refused, this guy may have been inclined to DIH...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I was literally laughing out loud reading this article. I think it's one of these few precious articles that are more interesting than the comments (not to denigrate the comments, they are really funny too).

And all the fun ball puns I am thinking of posting would just get deleted without warning so I'll keep them to myself.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

There was enough to serve five people!? It must have been huge!!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

What was on the menu , cock au vin ?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I don't see how having your genitals removed and served up raises awareness about sexual minorities, at least not in a positive sense. I'm sure transgender people will really appreciate the image of cannibalism.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Any witnesses? Very fishy...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Thank you, Virtuoso! This story feels like fiction, but the reactions to it are telling...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I understand cannibalism has a long history in Japan; of particular note was when the Imperial Japanese Army was running out of supplies on mainland China and various Pacific islands where they regularly cooked up civilians and POWs and had written orders from their superiors to do so...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Eeew... not what I wanted to read this morning.

In any case, my first thought is that the people who are really sick are not this "artist" with his psychological issues, but the "guest" who actually 20,000 yen to participate in this meal? Wtf?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

People eat animal genitals every day.

The average sausage contains that, and more.

Human genitals might be more organic, though...?

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

He probably had a sex change op. Instead of giving his meat to the dogs why not sell it to help fund his operation.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

3 ( +4 / -1 )

if it was sashimi style he could have charged more.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Do not try this at home!

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Who went to the party? Not Tom or Harry, but certainly Dick!

9 ( +12 / -3 )

Sugi Mountain oysters.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

For anyone who feels suicide is a person's right because it's his/her own body, and abortion is a person's right for the same reason, then this shouldn't really cause any problems. What's a little self-mutilation and cannibalism between consenting people?

Er, okay, yeah actually it is gross.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

"Insert funny one-liner about genital-eating"

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Sorry folks, but I'm convinced more than ever this story is a hoax.

You should learn to read Japanese then.

It originated on the France24 TV news site

In English perhaps.

One giveaway is that it carries no dateline

The event took place on May 13 (not a so-called Sunday, April 13, as quoted in English elsewhere.) You can see notice of the event here http://h-c.main.jp/hamcybele

Since it's unverifiable

Please.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

He's just getting a sex change and he found enough people effing insane enough to help pay for his surgery by eating his dick.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

One of the unwitting diners stated that had accepted an invitation for a sack lunch.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Who cares about genitals size? Only insecure people with zero self confidence and very low self esteem. But to eat one's genitals cooked and seasoned? no thanks! ;-)

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Who cares about genitals size?

Men.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Like the saying goes "You definitely cannot just make this stuff up!" Gotta love Japan, never a dull moment.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I would think that someone asexual wouldn't cut it off, but would just leave it alone. This sounds more like someone who hates being male. Too late now for that conversation, I suppose, but I hope there isn't a group somewhere planning an all you can eat buffet.

The only awareness I've gained from all this is that, for me, anyway, some folks are just too weird.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Police in Tokyo said they knew of the episode, but added that it had not broken the law as cannibalism was not illegal in Japan.

How is this possible in a first world nation?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

The article doesn't mention anything about cannibalism

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

The article doesn't mention anything about cannibalism

Which article did you read? Everyone else here read the one above that's about just that.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Is it me or have things in general gotten completely out of hand? What perplexes me is the government allowed it to happen.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Thanks for the link Zichi.... although I'm beginning to wish that I hadn't clicked it so soon after lunch.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Just wondering, was it sliced cross-wise like a pepperoni or length-wise like a matsutaki mushroom?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Because cannibalism is not illegal in Japan, so don't be surprised if someone just slash your balls or any part of your body and eat it for dinner.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

"he confirmed the event had taken place and said it was organized to raise awareness about “sexual minorities, x-gender, asexual people.”

So if his message was that those social groups mentioned above are psychologically disturbed and deranged, message received!

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

@Yuri

Is it me or have things in general gotten completely out of hand?

Yes indeed, out of the hand and onto the plate.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Lots of us have been around the block several times and presumed that there was much left to astonish. A jaw dropping article.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

If a bloke hacks off his junk and serves it up, does that give new meaning to the concept of "junk food"?

6 ( +6 / -0 )

This is just sick...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Could have made a lovely haggis with the sack.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

do enjoy reading JT But every now and then there is an news article that juststands out as totally bizarre and I just shake my head and think WTH is going on in Japan !!!!! Freedom of expression is one thing but ....Wow eating human genitals?????? That is just plane NUTS!!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@Virtuoso, Zichi posted a link, now can you be stop?

or you still dont want to believe this thing happen in japan?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

what a knob

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I am afraid , and shame to be Japanese and live in japan. people from all parts of the world love to come Japan , but now it will destroy the image...Are Japanese Cannibals..? Is this the end of a great society..? start of destruction...?

strict the laws...

1 ( +3 / -2 )

People seem surprised that cannibalism isn't illegal in Japan, but I doubt it is specified in law anywhere. Typically, this is covered by laws on disposal of bodies and body parts. I imagine definitions of cannibalism also vary. In my own mind, I associate it with eating someone after death. Anyway, in principal, isn't eating your genitals just the same as chewing your fingernails?

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

A couple of things, first I've never heard of asexual people. Maybe I've just led a sheltered life, but when I hear the term "asexual" I think of organisms capable of reproducing on their own. I had no idea that "asexualism" was a thing, so I suppose he accomplished what he set out to do?

My second thought... He had his goods severed, frozen, cooked, and consumed. You know how you hear about amputees experiencing phantom pain in lost appendages? Do you think that he. . .?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

This certainly isn't unique to Japan... I remember reading a news article a while ago that said a man has requested to be killed and then have his genitals eaten or something like that.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

tempura !! light and crispy................

0 ( +0 / -0 )

with just a dab of penis butter!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Armin Meiwes is a German man who achieved international notoriety for killing and eating a voluntary victim whom he had found via the Internet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armin_Meiwes

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is even more disgusting than those people who cook and eat placenta...

Another question... the surgeon who cut his meat n 2 veg off let him keep them? Were they in a doggy-bag?

The more I re-read the article the more I feel like grabbing the diners and demanding to know why they accepted the inviting to munch on his banger n mash.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That took some balls!!

0 ( +2 / -2 )

inviting = invitation

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That was nuts!

2 ( +3 / -1 )

'doesn't have the gonads to do that again.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

eunuch idea

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Patron overheard after dinner saying, "I had a ball"

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Now that we know cannibalism is legal here in Japan ... wonder what new restaurants featuring exotic human dishes will be opening in the near future. Better watch your back ... plus ...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Brings a new meaning to the saying "meat and two veg" which refers to the penis and tesciles.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Well, the guy's got (had), balls.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Well eating placenta is legal in many countries, America included, so eating a tadger may be as well.

The guy is a weirdo anyway, and the people who ate bits of him are even weirder.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Maybe, he just "knew and felt" in his heart that he wasn't meant to be a man. And he should be free to do with his body whatever he wants. And people should have the right to eat whatever they want. It's none of anyone else's business. I wish people would stop bringing their abrahamic religious intolerance into Japan. Isn't anyone going to defend him??

Seriously, the weirdest line is this one, "I receive questions from some women and men… asking ‘Will there be a next time? "

Truly sad. Weird man, and weird diners. (there I go, showing my intolerance again).

1 ( +1 / -0 )

yasukuni,

I have ZERO problems with what he did. It's HIS body and he is entitled to do as he pleases, though I wouldn't want to eat his bits..lol That said, If I ever feel like chopping something off my body and eat it, it will be my OWN business. I own my body and I will do with it as I see fit. Honestly speaking I just don't find human flesh appealing..yuck! and certainly, wouldn't want to eat from my own body or anyone else's for that matter.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

yumichanMay. 26, 2012 - 05:29PM JST I am afraid , and shame to be Japanese and live in japan. people from all parts of the world love to come Japan , >but now it will destroy the image...Are Japanese Cannibals..? Is this the end of a great society..? start of >destruction...?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Better than it being a tiger's.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Just when you thought you have heard it all the gantlet is dropped once again. The AP is going to have a field day with this story once they get hold of it. What is so shocking about this isn't so much about this man and his plight. Well yea it definitely does make your stomach turn but then again so does a lot of things in Japan. It is the fact anyone would even consider the option of paying someone to basically commit an act of cannibalism. They say once a bear attacks a human and eats him. It must be destroyed as has developed a taste for human flesh. I can't help but make comparisons.

Hello Clarice, I'm having an old friend for dinner. Bye. As in reference to the Silence Of The Lambs which still freaks me out to this day when I see it.

Kinda takes that meaning to a whole new level doesn't it. Anyone who could even bring themselves to such an act as a paying customer does question as to their mental state of being. If I had ever found out my (wife, husband) committed such an act. I would have a very hard time seeing them the same way after that. There are only a few remote places on the planet where cannibalism is still practiced. Thankfully they are so remote and removed from modern world most people will never come into contact with it. Yet when it happens in a society like Japan. It does bring up a whole lot of moral & ethical questions about what road we are going down. I hope for we Japanese sake that this story is one which remains just that and fads into darkness. :(

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Fully agree with El buda Mexicano, its not a nice story before huevos rancheros..!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@Zilchi. Thanks for the link mate...Learned (the hard way) to think twice before clinking links... Anyways; its pretty obvious that this bat-sh!t crazy dude and the even crazier "diners" should be under close phyciatric supervision (and quite possible force-medicated) in a closed medical facility and preferably one without handles on the inside of the doors...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

This is totally fracked up!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I'm home from work dear! Lets go out to eat tonight, I hear about a new cock & balls restaurant we've got to try!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

"the meal came complete with mushrooms and a parsley garnish"

That sound mighty appetizing, ho ho!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Speechless,Of all the bizarre stories I have heard in this Country. This takes the Cake!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Cannabalism... thats pretty much frowned upon.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Gives a whole new meaning of a meal "from soup to nuts"

irate customer: "waiter, I ordered an end cut, this is obviously a center cut."

Waiter: "I'm sorry sir, the lady to your right ordered that piece before you did."

Lady to right: " i'm sorry George, I have never been able to choke down anything but that piece."

Husband of lady to right: " She's right George, in 20 years of marriage, I have never seen her put anything her mouth but that piece."

irate customer: " Well, I will tell you, this is not fresh penis, it's too limp, this is frozen p*nis."

Waiter: " I assure you sir, this is genuine Japanese pnis, most Japanese pnis is limp."

Irate customer: Waiter, look here, there's a hair on my scrotum!:

Waiter: "OH!"

Irate customer: " You have a lot of balls serving me this"

Waiter: " No sir, these are all the balls we have. If we had a lot of balls we would gladly exchange them"

Irate customer " I;m going to complain to management"

Waiter enters kitchen and mutters "Plick"

Chef: No more plick, tell them they have to order something else.":

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Oh, Japan, ugh.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

haha. Get over it, people. Every day there are some kind of "shocking" news to be found. The guy appearently has not done anything illegal, and he even followed specific laws about how to handle everything. I will agree with those that think he might have mental health issues. I think there need to be more focus on A-sexuality, but that does not mean that one should have ones organs removed. About the cannibalism, personally i don´t care. I don´t see it as disgusting or a taboo. That is a social construction to see it as such. Again, no laws have been broken, except for peoples own incredible will to get upset.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Yumichanmay This will actually not change the image of Japan at all. Most foreigners are used to the socalled "strange" news coming from Japan, and this we be just seen as something "bizarre" in the line of so many other news. I think it is much more shocking to read about discrimination issues in Japan, bizarre murder cases, or about Osakas mayor asking people if they have tattoos or not. So really there is nothing to be ashamed about. The german case about a guy who killed another guy to eat his genitals has not stopped people from visiting Germany.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Damn... that is a point above. But... I still think this thing is a national embarrassment. Indeed they could've been a bit discreeter but then again those freemasons do some whacky stuff too.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Customer 1: I'm having a ball. Customer 2: Slow down, you're eating too fast.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

After 40 years here ... well, this might be the shock of all the time I have been here! How this 'bit of news' even got written for Japan Today ... well, I think I question that the most!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

21st century of Japan ...law ? cannibalism? Nobody can imagine the possibility of it or it is psychologically acceptable in Japan? We are talking about a first class country , famous with Toshiba ,Hitachi ,Toyota..etc but somehow , someone do this and ... there is .no law for it !! How ignorant I was for thinking before that cannibalism is impossible in Japan. When morality is gone , you just don't want to think about unlimited amount of weird , strange things that human can do . I feel sorry for him , he should read the Bible to see whats wrong with his action.

Apparently a few of the diners were disappointed about the size of this Japanese Wiener.

Police: it had not broken the law as cannibalism was not illegal in Japan.

Does japan a civilized nation anymore? Even North Korea sentencing cannibalism to firing squad as penalty!

Will there soon be a push for "asexual" couples marrying and will they want to adopt children too?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

I hope he didn't donate any of his sperm.

On a different note, one of the officers complained that

It's FAKE !!!!!!! This is serial killer / Silence Of The Lambs - Let's watch these people with the rest of our lives type of ordeal. If the police didn't arrest them because the guy told them it's a hoax. Why do this ? Of course your going to have crazy people trying to out do this guy. Seriously, alot of, how do i say encourage-able people will get ideas.

Cutting something off that you were BORN with is stupid.

I am more intrested in what wine to offer with such a unique dish. Perhaps a bold burgundy to offset the gaminess of the meat followed by a lime sorbet to clear the palate before the next course.

See through the initial EW! reaction and think about it. How can this be amoral/criminal? No one was hurt. In fact, if Sugiyama really is asexual, they probably feel a lot better without the extra parts.

I wonder why you people who think cutting bits off yourself is stupid, aren't furious at circumcision, which happens every day?

Customer: What an interesting looking teabag. Is this "Earl Grey"? Customer2: I'm pretty sure it's Japanese tea. See! The stem is standing up. That's good luck.

The one removes an unnecessary bit of skin that is known to incubate harmful bacteria, increasing the likelihood of both getting and transmitting STDs. The other completely removes what makes a man a man, and turns him into a Eunuch. In other words, one operation, is beneficial, the other is not. Apart from that, what sickens most people about this story, isn't that the idiot cut off his manly bits, but that he then served them to other idiots for dinner.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Seriously , did they pick it with their hands and eat it or did they use utensils , chopsticks whatever, when they could of just wrapped it up in a tortilla and now you have a burritto

For people who haven't heard of asexuality, instead of ignorant comments please visit the website "Aven" or visit their wiki. It's an educational resource.

I would agree with the comments that say doing something that's culturally accepted to be sick and disturbing isn't the best way to raise awareness.

What's the problem of most readers here? Anyone forced to eat something? Did you have YOUR balls being removed? I wouldn't want to eat them either, but to make such a big deal out of it.... Worse is what happened in Slovenia a few years back, where parents were forced to cook their own children and eat them, or co-workers had to bite off the balls of his Slovenian college and eat them.... Far worse things happen in this world than this persons diner....

How does him being an artist make this any less crazy? Or is it implying that being an artist means you could be insane like Van Gogh...

Not sure what is more insane the surgery part or the part where several others participated in surgery, cooking, organizing and eating?! Who the hell pays to eat human?? Ofcourse there are horrible situations where people have to cannibalize or die, but in this case they had a choice. This is promoting something that can be taken in a horrible direction. What next?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

There is no law against cannibalism here in Japan, also, there is no hypocrite oath, that is why doctors here promote not the healthy stuff to their patients, but those more expensive! I am just wondering, how can he cook his own organs! How human could see his own penis in a frypan, adding some spices? Weird!
